INSTALLATION & OPERATION GUIDE

After carefully unpacking your speakers, the carton and the packing material should be saved for possible use later. If any speaker appears to be damaged, DO NOT attempt to repair or to connect the unit to the amplifier. Repack the speaker and notify your dealer or Pro Acoustics USA for replacement or repair.

SPEAKER PLACEMENT

  • Careful consideration must be given to the speaker location to realize the full frequency range. Cube units can be mounted on the walls of the room.
  • The speakers should be separated by at least 6 to 8 feet for stereo operation. They should not be closer than 2 feet to any adjacent surface (wall or ceiling).
  • The cube brackets should be attached to a stud or mounted anchor with bolts for secure mounting. NEVER MOUNT THE SPEAKERS TO SHEETROCK WITHOUT SOME TYPE OF ANCHOR.
  • The MC2.5B unit is designed with a swivel joint between the 2 speakers. Each speaker can be aimed individually. The unit also comes with a mounting bracket for attachment to a wall. The bracket screws into the threaded socket on the bottom of the unit, and may be adjusted so that the speakers point in the desired direction.

PLEASE NOTE:

When mounting speakers from wall surfaces, additional tightening of the hex screw may be required.

SPEAKER SET-UP AND CONNECTIONS

  1. After you have determined the speaker locations using the guidelines above, turn off the receiver or amplifier and unplug it from the power outlet.
  2. Use 2-conductor 16-gauge speaker wire. Remove about 2 inches of the outside jacket from both ends of the wire, then strip approximately 1/2 inch of the insulation from each conductor at the speaker end. Use the recommended strip length as specified in the amplifier/receiver installation manual for the other end.
  3. Proper connection of the speaker wire is very important to ensure full range sound. Most amplifiers and speakers use red (for +) and black (for -) as the polarity markings. The red wire should be connected to the red terminal and the black wire to the black terminal at the speakers and the receiver/amplifier.

PLEASE NOTE:

When using another type of wire, such as a flat ribbon, you will need to determine how the wire denotes one lead from the other. This usually takes the form of a rib or a color stripe in the insulation.

  1. Repeat these steps for connection of all speakers to the system.
  2. The MC2.5B mini cube speaker may be connected 2 ways depending on the receiver/amplifier used with the system. The major difference is the subwoofer connections. An amplifier with a subwoofer output connection, usually an RCA type connector. A shielded audio cable is required for this setup with a Y-Adaptor connecting the audio cable to left and right “LINE INPUT” on the subwoofer. The other option requires the front left and right speaker cables be routed from the amplifier through the subwoofer to the speakers. The wires from the amplifier should be connected to the “HIGH LEVEL INPUT” and the cables going to the speaker should be connected to the “HIGH LEVEL OUTPUT” on the subwoofer.
  3. IMPORTANT! Make sure there are no loose strands of wire touching each other across the speaker or amplifier terminals. This can create a short circuit and damage your electronics.
  4. Plug your receiver/amplifier in, turn it on, and enjoy your new music system.

INSTALLATION & OPERATION GUIDE

SETTING UP THE SYSTEM

  • Use the settings on the receiver/amplifier; if a separate subwoofer is being added, the volume and crossover frequency will need to be set.
  • The system will require setting up the front, center, and rear speakers as recommended in your amplifier/receiver instruction manual. The subwoofer provided with the system allows setting of the phase, volume, crossover frequency, and an auto power control.
  • The phase switch is set for the best bass sound. Switch between the 0 – 180 position until the bass is loudest. In some applications, there may be noticeable difference, and in this case, leave the switch in the 0 position.
  • The crossover frequency can be set between 40 and 180Hz. It is recommended that the control be set to 180Hz with the mini cube speakers.
  • The volume control should be set to the desired bass level for the system.
  • The power switch can be set to OFF-AUTO-ON. The OFF position disables the subwoofer completely. The AUTO position puts the subwoofer in a standby mode (low power) when the system is not in use. When a signal is supplied, the subwoofer is automatically turned on. The ON position is a constantly ready with or without a music signal. The AUTO position is recommended for most applications.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Are ceiling mount brackets available for these?****

They include ceiling mount brackets.

What kind of speaker wire is needed for these speakers?****

An 18 gauge wire will work just fine.

Can you put surround sound in a small room?****

Small home theatres work well with bookshelf speakers and thin center channel speakers. Find appropriate placements for them on your bookcases or TV stand. Before purchasing, check the speaker measurements and measure the available spaces.

Can small speakers sound as good as large?****

Simply because of their size, small speakers cannot always provide a clear sound. Their ability to generate power is constrained by it. Large sounds, like explosions in a movie, and sounds with a low pitch are difficult for these speakers to handle.

Is it OK to have speakers on floor?****

The floor is not the best spot for them if you’re a stickler for sound. Consider mounting your speakers on a desk, shelf, or console if they are compact enough. NEVER place your speakers on the floor directly. Purchase a stand or at the very least build one to shield your technology from an unplanned flood.

How do you tell if a speaker will be loud enough?****

A standard test used by manufacturers to assess the sensitivity of their speakers involves positioning a microphone near a decibel meter one meter in front of the speaker and measuring the sound pressure level output, in decibels, while delivering one watt of power to the speaker.

Are older speakers better?****

Today’s speaker systems are more effective than ever before. In order to create sounds of inferior quality, your outdated speaker system would consume a lot of electricity. In contrast, more recent versions produce more decibels per watt consumed, maximizing each kilowatt of power.

Can you damage speakers by playing them too loud?****

Too loud music or audio playback can harm speakers by overheating the drivers or perhaps causing a mechanical failure of the driver suspension.

Is it OK to leave speakers on all the time?****

A powered speaker’s overall lifespan will be shortened if it is left on or powered when not in use. When left running or heated, the electronics (amplifier and crossover) will deteriorate more quickly. Random or inadvertent power surges pose a greater risk of damaging a speaker if it is left on.

Can barely hear surround speakers?****

Turn up the surround speaker settings or the rear speakers to their highest volume. Choose a different size (small or large) from the options for the rear surround speakers. Check that the surround sound mode is selected on the A/V receiver.

How high is too high for surround speakers?****

The front speakers in the room should be slightly lower than the surround speakers. Ideally, when seated, 1 to 2 feet above head height. This is so that the surround channels can produce a background sound in your space. Therefore, if they are a little farther from your ears, you should benefit.

Does more watts mean better sound?****

Yes, it is true that speakers play louder and clearer at higher power levels (watts). However, slight variations in power don’t produce much of an audible difference. The power would need to double in order to perceptibly hear a change (a 3dB increase).
