Activate and test
Before using the smoke alarm, it is important to activate and test the
product. Place the smoke alarm on the mounting plate (checklines in position
e) and turn it clockwise UNTIL YOU FEEL A CLICK (to position f)! Then press
the test button; the LED will start blinking and the siren will give the LOW
volume test signal. If this is not the case, check if you turned in position
f, if it is, do not use the unit and contact the supplier.
Note: The test signal volume is lower than the alarm signal volume. To
hear the volume of the alarm signal, press and hold the test button for
approx. 15 seconds. A few seconds after the test signal, you will hear the
alarm signal of > 85 dB (A).
Choose location
Choose a room
We recommend to install smoke alarms in the following areas:
- At least 1 smoke alarm on every floor.
- In rooms that are part of an escape route (hall, landing).
- In bedrooms (especially in children’s rooms).
- In rooms with electrical appliances (especially adaptors , washing machines, adaptors, dryers).
- In remote rooms that are used often but where the alarm signal of other devices might not be heard.
- A smoke alarm can monitor an area of up to 60 m 2 Place an additional smoke alarm if the surface area of a room is larger than 60 m2.
Caution: Do not install smoke alarms in areas where humidity is high or where false alarms may occur due to, for example, cooking fumes or exhaust fumes. Choose for heat alarms instead of smoke alarms in bathrooms, kitchens and garages. These alarms react to temperature rises and not to smoke. Visit www.elro.eu for the range of heat alarms.
Ceiling or wall mounting
Place the smoke alarm on the ceiling in the middle of the room. If ceiling
mounting is not possible, attach it to the wall. Make sure that there is a
clear space around all the device so that it is not obstructed. ****
Do not install a smoke detector:
- In draughty locations.
- Near air conditioners/ventilation systems.
- Directly above a heater.
- Less than 50 cm. away from furniture
- (such as tall cabinets) that may block air circulation.
Sloping ceilings
If you have a sloping, pitched or cathedral ceiling, place the smoke alarm at
a minimum of 0,5 m. and a maximum of 1 m. from the highest point.
For more tips on how to install your smoke alarm, for example in rooms with
ceiling beams, go to www.elro.eu For wall mounting look
on page 8 for the drilling template for vertical mounting!
Install the device
- Use the mounting plate as a guide where the holes should be drilled.
- Drill 2 holes with a diameter of 5 millimetres.
- Push the plugs into the holes.
- Screw the bracket into the wall or ceiling with the screws.
- Hold the smoke alarm against the mounting plate and turn it clockwise. The smoke alarm now switches on automatically.
- Test whether the device is functioning correctly by pressing and holding the test/silence button for approx. 3 seconds. If the detector is functioning correctly, the device will flash and beep. If this is not the case, do not use the unit and contact the supplier.

Standby mode and night mode
If the detector is activated correctly, it switches to standby mode. This
detector is equipped with a night mode. This means that the standby light
signal is automatically turned off in dark rooms, until enough light is
detected again.
Alarm
If the smoke alarm detects smoke, it will generate a loud alarm of >85 dB (A).
This device is equipped with a silence function to silence the alarm signal
for approximately 10 minutes. If the device gives alarm, press the
test/silence button to activate this feature. If the device still detects
smoke after 10 minutes, it will start alarming again.
CAUTION: Do not take any risks and use the alarm silence function only if
you are 100% sure that the situation is safe. In case of doubt, leave the
premises and only return when the situation is safe.
Low battery warning
This smoke alarm is equipped with a non-replaceable battery with a service
life of approx. 10 years. When the batteries are low, the device switches to
low-battery mode. Replace the smoke alarm as soon as possible, but in any case
within 30 days of the occurrence of this warning. You can temporarily mute the
low battery warning by pressing the test/silence button. After approximately
10 hours the warning will resume.
Maintenance
- This smoke alarm is equipped with a self-test mechanism. At least once a month at a random moment, the device automatically checks the functionality of the sensor and the siren. During a successful test, the detector will beep and blink briefly. If problems are detected, the detector switches to error mode. Replace the device immediately if the error message occurs!
- We recommend testing the device manually at least once a year by pressing and holding the test button for 3 seconds. Tip: Put a reminder in your calendar to prevent you from forgetting the annual test.
- Dust is a major cause of false alarms. Therefore, clean the smoke alarm once a month. Use a vacuum cleaner to gently clean the sides of the smoke alarm from accumulated dust. Never use a wet cloth or detergent to clean your device. This may damage the sensor.
