Clean and Ready For Use

Unless package has been opened or damaged. Single use device to be used on a single patient. Discard after use.

Description

The Sunset RES027 series are a single use device (HME) protecting tracheostomized patients from heat and humidity loss resulting from breathing through artificial airways which bypass the mouth, nose and pharynx.

The translucent molded plastic housing contains a hygroscopic material that traps the heat and moisture from the expired air and return it to the inspired air.

Indications

This HME is indicated for single use on tracheostomized patients. For tidal volumes (Vt) physician judgment prevails.

The Sunset RES027 series must be fitted directly onto the tracheostomy tube connector.

Contraindications
  • Do NOT use this device in conjunction with heated humidifier or nebulizer.
  • Do NOT use the device in a position different from the intended one and do NOT connect to breathing circuits.

Directions For Use
  1. Carefully remove the HME from its protective package.
  2. Firmly connect the device to the tracheostomy tube connector.

Periodically inspect for any increase in the resistance to flow and replace the device, if necessary.
Maximum HME is 24 hours. Do not reuse. Discard after use.
The device must be disposed of according to the regulations in force.
NOTE: the device is latex-free and non conductive.

Warnings
  • Use only under medical supervision.
  • Excessive secretions/bleeding can block the HME, making breathing difficult. In this case, replace the device immediately.
  • Ensure the patency of the device.
  • To reduce the risk of damage and obstruction by small objects, keep wrapped until required for actual use.
Precautions
  • Do not refurbish, do not reuse, soak, rinse, wash, sterilize or treat with any disinfectant (in particular phenolic and alcoholic-based solutions are to be avoided).
  • Use only with devices having ISO standard connectors.
  • Replace the Sunset RES027 Series HME at least once per day to reduce the risk of obstruction and the development of bacteria or fungal colonization within the device.
Potential Adverse Reactions

The following adverse reactions can result from the use of HME. The order of listing is alphabetical and does not reflect anticipated frequency or severity: consequences of mucus plugging and/or complications due to device including difficult breathing, dyspnea, hypercapnia and hypoxia.
