Program Overview
The Make Waves 2024 Creative Career Training Programme is
designed to equip local young people with the necessary skills and
networks to pursue creative careers.
Who Can Apply?
The programme is open to individuals who are underrepresented
within the creative sector workforce and audiences. Examples of
eligible candidates include those with a history of homelessness,
disabilities, from diverse cultural backgrounds, LGBTQIA+,
unemployed individuals, and more.
Sessions Schedule
The workshops will take place every other Tuesday at Glassbox
Theatre, MidKent College in Gillingham. Additional in-person events
like taster days and welcome weekends are also part of the
program.

Ideas Test are looking for 1825 year-olds in Medway who want to develop their creative industry skills by learning how to create events and projects that leave local people wanting more.
This will be the third year of Ideas Test’s creative careers training programme. The programme is designed to make sure local young people have the skills and networks to pursue creative careers, making waves in Medway’s cultural industries long into the future.

Through a 10-month series of workshops, special guest seminars and some
incredible site visits, you’ll get an insight into the world of producing
(turning your creative ideas into reality).
We’ll also give you the knowledge and practical skills to pursue different
career paths, whether you want to work within an organisation or be your own
boss as a self-employed freelancer.
You will also have: The opportunity to gain 30 days PAID hands on experience
in the industry @ £100 a day. Access to a £500 budget to produce a personal
project of your own. A £200 personal development bursary for mentoring,
training, joining a professional body, launching a website… anything you feel
could help kick-start your career! A travel and access bursary to ensure you
don’t miss a thing.
WHO CAN APPLY?
You can if you are aged 1825 living, working, volunteering or studying in
Medway. We especially welcome applications from anyone coming from communities
underrepresented in the creative sector.
By under-represented we mean people who are underrepresented within the
creative sector workforce and audiences.
Some specific examples may include people who are / have been:
Affected by / history of homelessness Experience of being in the care/adoption
system Disabled or living with a health condition or impairment A carer From
African diaspora From a South, East, or South-East Asian diaspora A Gypsy Roma
or Traveller A Migrant or Refugee Experience of mental health issues LGBTQIA+
and/or non-binary Neurodivergent Unemployed or living in a workless household
In receipt of welfare benefits (Universal Credit, PIP etc.)
WHEN & WHERE WILL SESSIONS HAPPEN?
This programme is part time and workshops will take place every other Tuesday
at Glassbox Theatre between 25pm at MidKent College in
Gillingham.
A full schedule will be provided at a later date, but please note
the dates for the start of the programme here
