Safety Notes for Propane Soldering Torches

WARNING

Read all the safety notes, instructions, illustrations and technical data which come with this soldering torch. Failure to heed the following instructions can lead to fi re and/or severe injuries.
Keep all safety notes and instructions for the future.

  • ROLLER’S Jet-Fire ignites and burns immediately when pressing the button (1). Prevent accidental starting. Close the gas cylinder valve immediately after use and allow the remaining gas from the burner and the hose to burn off. This will prevent any accidental starting.

  • Whether or not ROLLER’S Jet-Fire is burning or not, never direct the burner tube towards yourself or any other person. This reduces the risk of injury by burns.

  • When working outdoors, note that the flame may be invisible in bright sunshine and that soldering must only be done “downwind” in windy weather conditions. This reduces the risk of injury by burns.

  • Remove flammable substances and any containers filled with flammable liquids from the working area before carrying out soldering operations.
There is a risk of fi re and explosion.

  • Never allow the ROLLER’S Jet-Fire to operate unattended while the push button (1) is pressed down and the knob (2) is snapped into position. Turn off the ROLLER’S Jet-Fire during longer breaks – close the gas cylinder valve and allow the remaining gas from the burner and the hose to burn off. Soldering torches can cause hazards which lead to material damage and/or injury when left unattended.

  • Allow the ROLLER’S Jet-Fire burner pipe as well as heated parts to cool down for a longer time before touching them. Touching parts that are still hot during the cooling phase can cause severe burns. The burner pipe and heated
parts need a longer time to cool down.

  • Protect persons accompanying the work from hot parts. This reduces the risk of injury.

  • Never heat containers that contain or have contained inflammable liquids.
Empty or almost empty containers of this type in particular may contain highly explosive gas mixtures. There is a risk of fi re and explosion.

  • Use only refractory bricks if you place the workpiece on a surface for soldering. Bricks, concrete blocks, etc. can explode under extreme heat.

  • Wear eye protection and, if necessary, skin protection. Use of personal protective equipment reduces the risk of injury.

  • Work only in a well aired environment! Do not inhale gases and fumes that are produced during soldering. Gases and fumes can be harmful to health.

  • Keep a fi re extinguisher handy. This can be used to extinguish any fi re outbreak before serious damage occurs.

  • Check the ROLLER’S Jet-Fire gas hoses, gas cylinders and gas cylinder valves from time to time for any damage or leaks and replace them if necessary.
Use only appropriate accessories. This ensures that the safety of the soldering torch is maintained.

  • Gas cylinders contain liquid gas and under high pressure. Keep them away from heat. Keep them in a secure, upright position to prevent them from falling over. Observe the safety and accident prevention regulations as well as safety data sheets when handling propane. Failure to do so will cause a risk of fi re and explosion.

  • Observe local and national regulations for the transport and storage of gas cylinders.

  • Children and persons who, due to their physical, sensory or mental abilities or lack of experience and knowledge are unable to operate the soldering torch safely must not use this soldering torch without supervision or instruction by a responsible person. Otherwise there is a risk of operating errors and injuries.

  • Only allow trained persons to use the soldering torch. Apprentices may only operate the soldering torch when they are older than 16, when this is necessary for their training and under the supervision of a trained operative.

Setting up

Keep the gas cylinder in a secure position to prevent it from falling over. Close valve of gas bottle. Use adjustable pressure governor (1 to 4 bar). The use of fi xed pressure governors (e. g. 1.5 bar) is possible, however the burner does not produe the full power. Connect approved gas hose to the gas bottle and to the screwed nozzie (3) of the gas burner. (Attention! Both sides have left hand threads G ⅜”).

WARNING
Set the gas pressure to 1 bar. Check the system for leaks!

Operation

Use eye protection
Use ear protection

Open gas cylinder valve. If necessary, set gas pressure as specifi ed in 1.6.
The valve incorporated in the gas burner is opened by pressing the soldering torch push button (1). Simultaneously the spark generator (Piezo igniter) produces a spark into the burn pipe igniting the gas. Particularly with fresh connections repeated use of trigger is sometimes necessary until the air in the hose has vanished.
If the push button is released, the valve incorporated into the gas burner cuts off the gas supply and the flame goes out.
When trigger is pulled and snap-in locking (2) activated, the trigger can be released and the burner functions independently. Through renewed use of the trigger the snap-in locking is de-activated. lf the trigger is released the flame is extinguished.
During the soft solder process the tip of the flame cone should be kept off the material by about 10 to 15 mm. lf necessary the flame size can be reduced by decreasing the gas pressure.
Only use DVGW-approved soft solder and soft soldering paste for soldering drinking water pipes. Observe the national regulations.
NOTICE
Reduce gas pressure only as far that the minimum length of the flame cone stays at 8 mm. With a shorter flame, the soldering torch (spark generator) will be damaged.
CAUTION
After use close valve of gas bottle and burn-off the remaining gas from hose and burner.

Maintenance

4.1. Maintenance
WARNING
Before maintenance work, close the gas cylinder valve and allow the remaining gas from the hose and soldering torch to burn off.
