RAIN BIRD Gilles Bonnaire Nurseries
Covering almost 70,000 square miles in the south of France, Auvergne-Rhône- Alpes is a diverse region of climates and topographies. All of them are catered to by Gilles Bonnaire Nurseries, which sells everything from large Juniper trees to bean seeds to pruning shears
The Challenge
Gilles Bonnaire Nurseries started in 1979 with 500 pots of chrysanthemums ready to sell. In the intervening years the nursery thrived, but with growth came some growing pains. The owner—Gilles Bonnaire—had implemented a manual watering system that he was eager to upgrade and modernize.
Key objectives
- ✓ Modernization
- ✓ Automated Watering
- ✓ Ease of Use
- ✓ Affordability
- ✓ Water Conservation
The Solution
Gilles Bonnaire reached out to Cpl/H-Tube, a landscape and irrigation distributor in the suburbs of Lyon. There, Gilles Bonnaire learned about Rain Bird’s ESP-LX-IVM PRO and was interested in its multi-station and multiprogram features.
The ESP-LX-IVM PRO controller was ideal for the variety at Gilles Bonnaire
Nurseries since it can cater to many different plants, both indoor and
outdoor, within the nursery.

Approach
Rain Bird’s distribution partner in the region—Cpl/H-Tube— was a fan of the IVM Controller. The IVM was top of mind by the time Gilles Bonnaire reached out. Because the IVM Controllers are easy to use and configure, there was not really any doubt in Gilles Bonnaire’s mind that it was the right solution for him and his nursery.
Now, with a modernized system, Gilles Bonnaire Nurseries can save a lot of water and be more precise with where that water is directed. The system is able to provide different configurations and different times, not just across averages.
Rain Bird has also been on-site to assist with a network demo. Today, the
system has 13 programs and fewer valves.
Results
Gilles Bonnaire has advanced their irrigation system and evolved their business Now, because he is saving quite a bit of water and can be far more precise to ensure the viability of his plants, customers enjoy even more strolling around the grounds as if they are in their own gardens.
Although Gilles Bonnaire may retire one day, he is thinking about the future.
Perhaps his son will take over business someday. And when the time comes, his
option to integrate IQ4 for increased efficiency and control will be
imminently possible.
