INSTALLATION GUIDE

Congratulations on the purchase of your new attic ladder from PBS NZ.
Premier Attic Ladder
Before you start installing your new PBS Ceiling Mounted Folding Attic Ladder, you must read and understand the following:

  • Installation requires two people.
  • DO NOT open folding attic ladder until it is securely installed in the ceiling.
  • This ladder is suitable for ceiling height 2340 – 3120mm.
  • This folding attic ladder is completely assembled and is ready for installation. Do not disassemble it to install.
  • The gas struts on this folding attic ladder are under compression. Use extreme caution when checking or using this ladder. Never try to remove the gas struts when the ladder is in the open position.
  • Make sure there is no wiring or piping that the saw or drill can come in contact with during installation.
  • Opening or standing on the ladder’s climbing sections prior to properly fastening to ceiling joists could cause serious personal injury.
  • If the premises has roof trusses, do not cut the ceiling joists without consulting an engineer for approval.
  • Improper installation of this attic ladder may put undue stress on its components and may result in failure and serious personal injury.

Consider the space required for this ladder and where it can be positioned without obstruction while opening and closing.

Installation

  1. Identify kit components.
    Attach pull cord to door using washer to secure on inside.

  2. Measure ceiling joist structure and make necessary modifications to accommodate ladder assembly. If necessary consult a structural engineer for advice.
    Note : The installer is to ensure that the framing is in accordance with NZS 3604:2011 or get specific design instructions from a suitably qualified engineer.PBS-NZ-Attic-Aluminium-Ladder-2

  3. Lift ladder into hole and support in place.

  4. Measure diagonals between corners to ensure ladder frame is square.

  5. Secure ladder to frame with coach screws and washers.

  7. Measure from end of middle section to floor.
    Mark length on lower section and cut off excess with hacksaw.

  8. Attach feet to ladder. Drill 6.5mm hole and secure with bolt and lock nut.
