INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS

GreenStuf® PIR Panel insulation is engineered to improve the thermal performance and energy efficiency of New Zealand buildings.

These installation instructions are of a general nature and designed to assist suitably experienced tradesmen install GreenStuf PIR Panel to a high standard in typical use situations.

For further installation support, please contact your GreenStuf Account Manager before you start.

GreenStuf PIR insulation sheets are supplied according to specified sizes. We recommend all sheets are checked prior to installation. We recommend you “measure twice and cut once”.

TECHNICAL

Wall installation between framing: Measure the spacing between framing and trim GreenStuf PIR Panel to ensure a tight fit between the wall frame, without air gaps. The recommended cutting methods include a fine-toothed handsaw, or deep score with a utility knife followed by snapping the board over a hard edge and a final cut on the adjacent side.

Place the GreenStuf PIR Panel so it is flush with the inside edge of the studs. Friction should hold the PIR in place but for added support installer can nail the edge of the panel to the side of stud.

Any air gaps remaining in the wall effect the thermal efficiency of the envelope and must be sealed. We recommend using products such as MS sealant or expanding polyurethane foam if required.

Wall installation to masonry and concrete walls using construction adhesive: Before work commences, ensure all surfaces must be clean, dust- free and dry as dust and moisture will adversely affect the adhesive and may result in lack of adhesion. Ensure the existing walls do not have an irregular surface finish that may impact on direct fixing to the substrate. Very porous surfaces may need to be sealed prior to applying the adhesive to avoid moisture penetration. Gloss and semi-gloss finishes should be lightly sanded and dusted clean prior to application of the adhesive.

Apply a continuous bead of high-quality construction adhesive around the perimeter of the panel. Apply straight, continuous beads of MS adhesive along the length of the panel (if panels are to be installed vertically) or across the width of the panel (if panels are being installed horizontally) at no more than 300mm intervals. The outermost adhesive beads must be placed no closer than 25mm away from the edge of the panel to avoid the adhesive from leaking at the edges when pressure is applied.

Align the board on the wall so that all joints butt tightly and apply pressure to ensure the board is plumb and true. Temporary support may be required to support the board, in cases where the construction adhesive does not develop an immediate grab.

Mechanical fixings may be used to complement the adhesive bond. In this case, after the adhesive has set, use 2 mechanical fixings at the mid height of the board, 15mm from the edge, with a 25mm nominal embedment into the wall.

Refer to the adhesive manufacturer’s detailed install instructions in the first instance when available. In the absence of detailed instructions from the adhesive manufacturer, you may refer to the instructions above.

Continue as above for all panels until complete.

Ceiling and wall installation to masonry and concrete using mechanical fixings: Mechanical fixings should be fixed at a minimum spacing of 600mm centres across the width of the panel and 400mm centres along the length of the panel.
Fasteners should be positioned no closer than 50mm away from the edge of the panel. GreenStuf recommends seeking advice from the chosen fastener supplier to ensure suitability of each project application.

Note that the substrate and fixing materials must be fit for purpose. Design loading on the board must not to exceed 0.375kPa for this fixing pattern. Additional fixings may be required when the boards are subjected to greater wind loads.

Perilled the wall substrate using a suitable masonry drill bit.
Insert the masonry anchor or screw with a minimum demented of 25mm into the solid substrate.

Panel placement can be arranged either staggered or square.

Ensure the fixings are driven straight, with a tidy and flush finish.
Do not overdrive screws.

Continue to prepare and install panels with tight fitting joins between sheets and surfaces until installation is complete.

We recommend sealing all joins to ensure moisture and thermal performance, and using a suitable foil tape such as SabreFix Reinforced Aluminium Foil Tape or Danco Reinforced Aluminium Foil Tape.

Completion: Leave work secure, smooth, free of gaps, and to the standard required by following procedures.

Remove waste and recycle wherever possible.
Leave site clean and tidy.
