Eye-Able® Software Services
Guide to BFSG
Why digital accessibility?
What is the BFSG?
On June 28, 2025, the Accessibility Reinforcement Act
(Barrierefreiheitsstärkungsgesetz= BFSG) will come into force. The Act
contains specific provisions to promote equality and accessibility of products
and services.
Everyday life is increasingly taking place online. People work, study and shop online. What is often overlooked, however, is that these opportunities are not equally accessible to all.
Eye-Able® software solutions help you stay compliant and up-to-date with
the latest digital accessibility standards.
Our tools make it easy for you to identify and remove barriers yourself. But
digital accessibility is much more than a legal requirement. In addition to
increased reach and a positive image, there are many other benefits that
website operators can reap.
Accessibility principles
Perceivable
Information and components on a website must be accessible to all people (e.g.
through image descriptions, alternative text).
Operable
On an accessible website, all people, including those with physical or
cognitive disabilities, can easily navigate and interact with all components
(e.g. clear structure, simple controls).
Robust
An accessible website is compatible with different devices and browsers (e.g.
using standardised technologies).
Understandable
The language and content of an accessible website is easy to understand for
all people, whether they have learning difficulties or are non-native speakers
(e.g. through clear forms and simple language).
Are you affected by the Accessibility Reinforcement Act (BFSG)?
These services are covered by the Accessibility Reinforcement Act:
- E-Commerce
- Computers and Operating Systems
- ATMs, ticket and check-in machines
- Smart phones
- Televisions in connection with digital television services
- Telephone services and related equipment
- Access to audiovisual media services such as television broadcasting and related consumer equipment
- Passenger transport services
- Electronic books
- Electronic commerce
Ready for the BFSG? – Fact check
Here are some questions that a BITV check will look at and that you can use to
test your business:
Does your business have a digital offering that falls under the BFSG – such as
an app, website, software or online store?
- Can all non-text content be displayed alternatively?
- Do your media, such as audio and video, offer appropriate alternatives and subtitles?
- Are colours, audio and visual elements clearly distinguishable?
- Are all functions accessible and operable from the keyboard?
- Are the provided texts written in clear and understandable language?
- Is your website robust across technologies and can it be interpreted correctly?
