SAFETY FIRST

Please do not overload your media platform in undercabinet mode. LOAD LIMIT = 6lbs (FYI-“The Joy of Cooking” hardcover weighs about 3.0 lbs)

  • Ensure all moving connections (see Appendix A – diagram) between HieBAR Pallett (d), Ladder Bracket (c), and Track & Swivel-Slide Clamp (a, b) are properly seated and secured when the unit is in undercabinet use.
  • The HieBAR Media Pallett and Undercabinet Track should NOT BLOCK ANY HEAT SOURCE including, but not limited to, undercabinet (i.e., U/C) lights, wiring and transformers. The use of low-profile “cool to the touch” LED U/C lighting is recommended. ENSURE A STRONG ATTACHMENT OF THE UNDERCABINET TRACK TO YOUR CABINET BOTTOM (see sect III.B). Make sure track endcaps are installed. In general, NEVER FORCE YOUR MEDIA PLATFORM TO A NEW POSITION. Your easel should adjust easily as seen on the video and according to the instructions here. If it does not adjust as specified, check for, and move it away from, obstructions (e.g., under-cabinet lights, cabinet front frames/moldings, countertop appliances, backsplash or side walls) that may be blocking its range of movement. Some operating tips from this Product Guide you’ll want to remember. We suggest reading and trying these after installing your track. You can also see these tips being performed on the website www.HiebarDesign.com in the “video” section.
  • To move the Easel to a new position on the HieBAR Undercabinet Track, grasp (and loosen) the Swivel-Slide Clamp. Pressing upward maneuver the unit by sliding the knob along the HieBAR Undercabinet Track. (See video) Do not pull the easel along the track from the bottom.
  • When removing the Ladder Bracket from the HieBAR Track first remove (i.e., slide off) the HieBAR Pallett (d) from the Ladder Bracket (c).
  • THE LADDER BRACKET MUST BE THREADED THROUGH THE LADDER BRACKET CHANNEL ON THE BACK OF THE MEDIA PALLETT (see Appx. A).

WILL IT WORK ON YOUR CABINETS?

The HieBAR media platform will work on the vast majority of kitchen cabinets, even with undercabinet lighting.

The BASIC CABINET REQUIREMENTS for “Front-to-back Track Placement” are:

  • Cabinet depth of 10 inches or more.
  • Strong, continuous (i.e., unobstructed), undercabinet mounting surface of at least 4 x 10 inches (orientation depends on track placement).
  • If adjacent undercabinet (U/C) lighting is present, it ideally should be no thicker (i.e., higher off the cabinet bottom) than ½ inch.
  • Do not place the track’s center channel within 4.5″ of U/C lighting that is over 1/2″ thick as it will obstruct mounting & rotation of the unit.

NOTE : Even if your cabinets do not meet the above BASIC CABINET REQUIREMENTS there are many possible workarounds. You may be able to install using a different Track Placement, by cutting your standard 10″ track shorter, or by moving the placement of, or upgrading your U/C lighting. If you run into a problem, send a photo or a quick doodle of your undercabinet situation to hiebardesign@gmail.com.

We’ll be happy to help!

INSTALLING YOUR HieBAR UNDERCABINET TRACK

Your HieBAR Undercabinet Track Assembly installs easily with up to 9 (or as few as 5) screws set into your cabinet bottom through the pre-drilled holes in the track section. You will use the track itself as a drilling template. Diagrams for track placement options are shown below. Attachment instructions are in sect III.B Email us at hiebardesign@gmail.com if you need help or have questions. In addition to the items in your product package you will need

  1. a Pencil, 2. a Ruler, 3. a Drill with 3/32″ (or smaller) drill bit for drilling pilot holes and

Phillips-head driver bit (with drill) or Phillips-head screwdriver.
Before starting determine what type of cabinets you have. Choose which cabinet type below best describes your cabinets and check the appropriate box so you can glance back for reference.

  • Frameless Cabinets (aka Flat Bottom or European-style Cabinets) have front and side vertical walls that terminate flush with the cabinet bottoms. In other words the cabinet undersurface is essentially flat for the length of the cabinet units).
  • Face Frame Cabinets aka Recessed Bottom Cabinets) have front and side vertical walls that descend more than a ½ inch below the cabinet bottom surface. This leaves a recessed, usually unfinished, space under the cabinet.

INSTALLATION STEPS

Decide on Track Placement – (see Fig. 1)
Pick a preferred “Forward Presentation Point” (points a, b, c):
That is in undercabinet mode, when your Media Easel is pulled down and in use, the “Viewing/Access Point” is the location along the length of your cabinet front where you anticipate you’ll want to access your easel the most. We recommend selecting position(s) adjacent to work/prep/sink areas where you may want to access recipes, email, social media, news, a Peat a piet, tailing tape at your Forward Presentation beat Decide on which track place met option ob prefer the leg. rotao or).

IMPORTANT PLACEMENT NOTE S
(all three placements will work on Frameless cabinets. Placement C may NOT work on Face Frame Cabinets as the front of the cabinet frame will obstruct the unit’s rotation.)

  1. DIAGONAL: This placement is DOES allow one to “park” or fold down the unit against the backsplash, however, it DOES NOT allow one to fold up the unit to fit completely under the cabinet unless you face the unit sideways when folding.
  2. FRONT-TO-BACK: This placement DOES allow one to “park” or fold down the unit against the backsplash, AND fold up the unit to fit completely under the cabinet. NOTE: for “Face Frame” cabinets the Swivel-Slide Clamp Knob Assembly must be already inserted and sliding in the in the track’s center channel BEFORE the track section is installed. After installation, both ends of the track section will be blocked by the cabinet frame and back wall.
  3. STRAIGHT FRONT: Depending on the depth of the cabinet bottom recess, this placement MAY NOT WORK for “Face Frame” cabinets. (You may nọt be able to mount or rotate the unit due to the front of the cabinet frame obstructing rotation.) It DOES NOT allow one to “park” /fold-down the unit against the backsplash, and it DOES NOT allow one to fold up the unit to fit completely under the cabinet. It does allow a wide range of forward positions.

ATTACH vour HieBAR Undercabinet Track Assembly

Note : For a Face Frame Cabinet, because its bottom surface is bordered on all sides by the cabinet frame, when installing the track you will most likely need to keep the undercabinet track assembly, assembled with the swivel-slide clamp and end caps already engaged in the track. This is because if you don’t, you may not be able to get the clamp and endcaps back onto the track once the track is installed.

  1. Pleber track towel tal priorto attach-mending below the installation area to prevent damage to the countertop in case the
  2. Hold your track at your Viewing/Access Point and place pencil mark in the location of the center hole. Put down the track and drill a pilot hole.
  3. Hold or tape the track in place while driving the first center screw through the center track hole into the cabinet bottom. This can be a little tricky and using some duct tape or the help of a friend to hold the track in place while fastening might make this a bit easier. Make sure the screw is tight but DO NOT OVER-TIGHTEN! A stripped hole will not hold a screw and must be filled and re-drilled or the track moved and new holes drilled.
  4. Using the 7 remaining predrilled holes in your HieBAR Track (3 at each end of the track plus 2 in the middle) as a guide, drill seven 3/32″ (or smaller) pilot holes ¼” deep into the cabinet undersurface. Do not drill all the way through the cabinet bottom.
  5. Using your screwdriver or drill with driver bit, secure the remaining two center (#8 x ½”) steel screw firmly through the predrilled center hole in the track and into the cabinet undersurface. Again, DO NOT OVER-TIGHTEN!
  6. Slide the “Swivel-Slide Clamp” (if you have not already) into the center channel.
  7. Mount end-caps on both ends of the track and secure the 3 remaining holes on each end firmly with the remaining steel screws.
  8. Make sure the round plastic padding collar is tucked below the side channel lip on both sides. The Clamp Knob must be screwed all the way open to do this. Failure to mount the end-caps is dangerous and can lead to accidental disengagement!

YOU’RE DONE!
wite wathe in sid shorten the scret sepit tis u then strongly recommend using the boton Through Shree, 0 x 1.5 and the -nutes included to reh place two of the two end screws at diagonally opposite corners. See “Nylon Through-screw Installation” on next page

Nylon “through screw” installation.
Do this if you have a thin or otherwise weak cabinet bottom to ensure reliable track attachment:

  • Remove two of the #8-screws at diagonally opposite corners of the track and drill out a wider 5/32″ hole in the empty track holes and THROUGH the cabinet bottom.

  • Use the Nylon Machine Screws (#6 x 1.5″) and Hex nuts (provided) instead of the steel screws to secure the track & end-caps.
Note : the screw head should be inside the cabinet with the threaded screw shaft pointing down through the hole and through the track.

  • Once the hex nut is tightened up onto the screw shaft, the screw shaft can be clipped off below the hex nut with a pair of wire cutters.

Our experience and testing have shown that the steel screws supplied, installed as instructed, will provide more than adequate holding power for the HieBAR Track, Ladder Bracket, Pallett and Payload on cabinet bottoms within the product’s specified payload weight limit. That said, it is impossible to know what type of cabinet bottoms may be out there and how they may vary in terms of materials, thickness, age and wear. If you are not confident about your cabinet bottom being able to reliably hold the attaching screws and their load we recommend you use the Nylon “through screw” method noted above to secure the track at both ends. Because of the possible variation in cabinets noted above —

WE CANNOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR THE QUALITY OF ANY SPECIFIC TRACK-TO-CABINET ATTACHMENT.

YOUR HieBAR MEDIA PLATFORM

The product mechanics are pretty straight-forward and should be intuitive once you see and perform these functions a few times.

NE RECOMMEND LOOKING AT THE PRODUCT DEMO VIDEO at www.HiebarDesign.com/videos to see how it works. If you prefer written instruction see below.

Mounting and adiusting your easel in undercabinet mode :

  • Mounting the Ladder Bracket (b) onto the Undercabinet Track: Unscrew the Swivel-Slide Clamp Knob completely (i.e., all the way down). Slip the Slot Connector (b1) onto the exposed slider post until the Slot Connector engages (i.e., falls down over) the top of the Clamping Knob collar. Tighten Clamping Knob up to clamp the Slot Connector onto the post.

  • Mounting Easel onto Ladder Bracket: In order to properly mount the easel unit (c) onto the Ladder Bracket (b) the Ladder Bracket MUST be engage THROUGH the Bracket Channel (c1) at the top of the easel, and slid upward until either of the two Easel Base Catch Bars (c2) engages one of the Ladder Bracket Rungs (2). The easel MUST NOT simply sit on top of the Ladder Bracket. THIS IS UNSAFE! The Ladder Bracket (b) MUST be engage THROUGH the Bracket Channel (c1). SEE APPENDIX A.
Note : depending on which of the two Easel Base Catch Bars (c2) is engaged the Easel can be deployed on the Ladder Bracket in parallel (i.e., easel)
    or perpendicular (i.e., shelf) mode.

  • Height : With the Ladder Bracket engaged through the (top) Bracket Channel (c1) of the Easel Base tilt the easel upwards and adjust HieBAR Pallett
to approximate desired height. Tilt the unit downward so the Easel Base Catch Bar (c2) engages one of the Ladder Bracket Rungs (b2).

  • Side-to-side and/or front-to-back : Loosen Swivel-Slide Clamp Knob (b). Pull knob (and the Easel) to the desired position. Tighten.

  • Swivel : Loosen Swivel-Slide Clamp Knob. Maneuver easel to the desired rotational position. Tighten.

  • Tilt : The angle of tilt of the easel is held in place by a friction hinge that can be moved by simply applying pressure at the end of the easel. Simply hold the easel front (or sides) and move the easel to the desired angle of tilt.

MAKING A CUSTOM EASEL (to be attached to the Easel Base)

You can make a custom easel of virtually any material. Follow the easel guidelines below:

  • Total weight of less than 1lb
  • Material Thickness : 1/4″ to 3/8″
  • Height = 7.50 inches
  • Width = 9.25 inches
  • Shelf width = 1.00 minimum, wider if you plan to use large books
  • Shelf tilt = 75-90 degree angle from easel back (i.e., 15 to 0 degree tilt).

Note : shelf tilt will help hold small laptops on the stand (countertop mode only) and book pages open in either mode.

  • Use the Easel Base Stand as a template to drill attachment holes.
  • Use through bolts or wood scews depending on material thickness and desired look. Place holes as far apart horizontally as possible to allow frame clearance for spinning wing nuts.
  • Distance between top edge of easel and the top two screw holes should not be more than 1.75″ otherwise the top of the easel will obstruct the Bracket
  • Channel in perpendicular mounting mode.
