Side mirror Camera

  • An exterior camera is mounted on the side of the vehicle, typically to the mirror on either side of the vehicle. Its purpose is to capture video down the side towards the back of the vehicle.

Rearview Camera

  • An exterior camera mounted on the top of the bulkhead or enclosed trailer to view the road behind the vehicle

Backup Camera

Monitor

  • A digital screen is used to display one or more cameras in the cab for use by the driver.

Headache Bar

  • A headache rack is a steel or aluminum rack that mounts on the bed rails just behind the cab of a truck. Used to hang items from like tire chains and protect against shifting cargo.

Trailer Bulkhead

  • Same as a headache bar but is attached to a trailer. Can either be permanent or removed as loads dictate.

7-way connector

  • A North American standard for electrical connectors between a vehicle and the trailer that provides a means of control for the trailer.

Note: The cab-side and trailer-side connectors are different parts.

Cable Details Continuing from the previous slide

  1. The tractors have a headache bar (diamond plate wall between trailer and cab) that the 7-Way connector can mount to without the bracket. Drill the hole, and the bolt holes and mount directly to the wall in the center.
  2. Connect 3m camera extension cables to the 7-Way Cab side connector and run the cables into the cab. Mark 1 as the backup camera, and 2 as the trailer camera.
  3. Bring the cables into the cab through the existing plug just behind and to the side of the driver’s seat, where marker light wiring is coming in.
  4. Connect the Convoy CS2ADP camera splitters to connect the cameras to both the monitor harness and the SD System.
    • AV1 side of the splitters always goes to the monitor harness,
    • AV2 side of the splitters always goes to the SD System.
  5. Weatherproof the adjoining connectors between the 7-Way and camera extension cables, and the SmartDrive cable using a dielectric grease and the black sleeve protector on the extension cable
  6. Secure all cables with zip ties where needed
