errors in coupon submission
Introduction
With the recent updates to the coupon pricing requirements in March 2024, some
sellers have encountered occasional errors or submission issues due to
unfamiliarity with the new guidelines. This article will provide a clear
overview of the updated coupon submission requirements and offer solutions for
common submission mistakes.
You may visit this page for the full details of the ?new coupon pricing
requirements.
Basic Requirements
Eligibility
- To be eligible for coupons, you must be a Professional seller with at least a 3.5 Seller feedback rating. Sellers who haven’t received any feedback rating yet are also eligible for coupons.
- If a product has reviews, it must meet following criteria:
- Products with 1-4 reviews must have an average rating of at least 2.5 stars.
- Products with 5+ reviews must have an average rating of at least 3 stars.
- Products can be seller-fulfilled or sent via Fulfillment by Amazon.
- Products must be in new condition.
Fees
A handling fee will be charged for each successfully redeemed coupon:
- Amazon North America Stores:0.6 USD / 0.6 CAD
**Please refer to the actual Amazon Global Store for specific charges.
ASIN Pricing Submission Criteria
- Price history issue: To prevent coupon suppression, create a sales history by selling more products to build the “Was Price.” For more information on how the “Was Price” is calculated, go to Amazon policy on reference prices.
- Increase discount: Make sure your promotion price is lower than the “Was Price” or the recent lowest price to make this product eligible.
- Minimum/maximum discount issue: Update your sale price discount percentage to be between the minimum (5% off) and maximum (50% off) to make this product eligible.
- Discounted price needs to be at least 5% lower than the “Was Price”.
*The “Was Price” is determined using the 90-day median price paid by customers for the product on Amazon. We exclude prices paid by customers for the product during a limited time deal.
Notes on coupon submission
- Coupons can be used in conjunction with other promotions1.
- Coupons are valid for up to 90 days. You can select a start date for each coupon, and the coupon will not take effect until 6 hours after submission.
- If an Amazon item loses coupon eligibility for any reason after the coupon is activated (low inventory, product ratings, etc.), Amazon will immediately disable the coupon.
- If your coupon contains 10 products and 2 of them are ineligible, buyers can still see the remaining 8 products and your coupon is still valid.
- Once your coupon is activated, edits are limited to extending the duration (up to 3 months) or increasing budget. If you want to make any other changes, you will need to cancel the existing coupon and create a new one.
- If your coupon is created, there may be a delay while the coupon is verified and suppressed. During this delay, suppressed coupons will remain valid on the Amazon website.
FAQs
What type of products are eligible for coupons?
Sellers can create coupons for any available ASIN, including new products. However, please note that: 1. The specific submission results are subject to the Coupon Dashboard display on Seller Central. 2. If an error occurs, Seller Central will display a prompt explaining why the coupon is invalid and the necessary modifications.
Case example
Q: Seller A wants to set a coupon for Product A. Product A currently displays a price of US$30 on Amazon.com, and the List Price of this product is US$35. Seller A wants to set a 5% discount coupon for product A. Seller A sets the sale price after the discount is US$33.25. However, Seller A keeps facing errors when submitting the coupon. What’s the problem?
A: The selling price set by Seller A should be US$28.5 after discount. According to the new coupon regulations, the ASIN needs to have a Was Price and provide a coupon discount of no less than 5% of the Was Price. In this question, the Was Price of the product for which Seller A wants to set a coupon is US$30.
Note: ⚠ List Price is not a historical price. So, $30 – ($30 X 5%) =
$28.50.
