Handling
When removing the printer from the host machine, care should be taken to first ensure that the body of the printer is at a temperature that can be comfortably handled. It is important to note that the rear of the printer is likely to be the warmest zone and warrants particular attention. Safety shoes should be worn when installing or removing the Printer body from packaging machinery. These units are heavy and there is a danger of injury if dropped. To avoid injury by dropping the ribbon cassette when changing ribbon, please ensure the ribbon cassette is placed on a bench and that safety shoes are worn.

Printer weight: 5.9Kg

Installation
Installations are normally performed by qualified Markem-Imaje service technicians or approved distributors. Installations not performed by MarkemImaje service technicians or distributors must be performed by competent personel in accordance with the applicable local regulations. Seek advice from your Markem-Imaje representitive if you are in any doubt.

Installation Requirements
Ensure that these services and control signals are available:
Power – 100-230V AC (+/- 10%) 50-60 Hz. A disconnect device (plug or other device) should be located close to the SmartDate Controller and be easily accessible at all times.
A protective earthing conductor shall be connected to the installation protective earthing conductor (for example, by means of the supplied power cord, connected to a socket-outlet with earthing connection).

A ‘Print Go’ signal – This can be either a volt-free contact that closes when printing is required or a 24 V DC signal from a PNP sensor (positive edge triggered). Sufficient space for installation and operation.
In addition, SmartDate X30 continuous printer requires an encoder to monitor the substrate speed.
Use
To avoid the risk of crushing injury, do not touch the printer while it is running. The printer is designed for thermal transfer printing. Any other use of the printer is prohibited, and any consequences shall be under the entire responsibility of the user.
The printer must not be connected directly to the public telecommunications network.

Servicing

  • DISCONNECT the printer from the mains before any operations requiring components to be removed or exchanged. Use appropriate tools for any work on the electrical circuits.
  • DO NOT operate the machine with any covers removed. All covers must be in place using the appropriate number of fasteners.

Batteries
There is a non-replaceable lithium battery mounted on the printer board assembly. Under no circumstances should this be replaced (it should last the life of the printer). In the event of failure, please contact Markem-Imaje or approved distributor for repair or replacement options.

Recycling

  • Disposal of used batteries and rechargeable batteries (applicable in European Union countries and other European countries with selective waste collection systems).
  • Disposal of used electrical and electronic equipment (applicable in European Union countries and other European countries with selective waste collection systems).

These symbols indicate that the electrical and electronic devices and the batteries and rechargeable batteries therein, must not be disposed of at the end of its life as ordinary municipal solid waste. By ensuring that these items are disposed of appropriately, you play an active role in avoiding the harmful consequences that incorrect disposal could have on the environment and human health. The recycling of materials contributes to the preservation of natural resources. By entrusting your end-of-life electrical devices to a duly authorized disposal company, you ensure that all the items therein will be handled correctly. In all other cases and in order to safely remove batteries, rechargeable batteries and other materials, see the user manual or contact your Markem-Imaje representative.

Printer integration
If this equipment is integrated in a machine, please read the user manual for the machine before working on the printer. If the printer is incorporated in a machine or assembled with other machines in a way that forms machinery covered by the Directive 2006/95/CE:

  • It may not operate independently
  • It must not be commissioned until the end machine in which it is incorporated has been declared to comply with the relevant provisions of the Directive on Machinery and other European Directives applicable to the end machine.

Radio
An RFID tag is fitted to each ribbon waste spool and contains the set-up information of the ribbon as required by the printer.
The printer reads the RFID tag during the calibration process and ‘pairs’ with the ribbon. The RFID radio frequency is 13.56MHz with a maximum power limit of 10mW from the antenna.

FCC Rules
Caution: Changes or modifications not expressly approved by the party responsible for compliance could void the user’s authority to operate the equipment.
NOTE: This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class A digital device, pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference when the equipment is operated in a commercial environment. This equipment generates, uses, and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instruction manual, may cause harmful interference to radio communications.
Operation of this equipment in a residential area is likely to cause harmful interference in which case the user will be required to correct the interference at his own expense.

For Canada :
Under Industry Canada regulations, this radio transmitter may only operate using an antenna of a type and maximum (or lesser) gain approved for the transmitter by Industry Canada.
To reduce potential radio interference to other users, the antenna type and its gain should be so chosen that the equivalent isotropically radiated power (e.i.r.p.) is not more than that necessary for successful communication.
This device complies with Industry Canada licence-exempt RSS standard(s). Operation is subject to the following two conditions: this device may not cause interference and this device must not accept any interference, including interference that may cause undesired operation of the device.
