Preparing to connect the TV antenna

  1. Check your TV’s type. Smart TVs and HDTVs can conned to the antenna directly. A digital converter box may be needed for TVs made prior to 2009. Please provide your own box if needed.
  2. Find the location of your local broadcast towers to find the best  mountingposition for your antenna.

Check your house’s reception using the following websites:

DTV Reception Map Tips
  •  If searching on city, include state
  • If searching on street address, include city and state
  • Exclude PO Box, Mailbox, APT # in address search parameters
  • Avoid using special characters, such as @, #, $, %,*, etc.
  • Clicking on the red marker on the map and dragging it to a different location will change the search results, based on the longitude and latitude coordinates of the end location.

Connecting the Antenna

  1. Attach the 16.5ft long coaxial cable from the antenna to the external amplifier (as shown in figure 1 below).
Note: It is not necessary to attach the external amplifier in areas that have a strong signal. It is best to attach the amplifier in areas with weak signals.

  2.  Connect the coaxial cable from the amplifier to the ANT/IN or CABLE IN port on the back of your TV (as shown in figure 2).
Note: For TV’s that require a tuner box, connect the coaxial cable from the amplifier to the tuner box ANT/IN or CABLE IN port. See the “Final Configuration” Illustrations below for both connection options-

*USB Power Cable may also be plugged into any available USB port on HDTV as well.

  3.  The amplifier requires power to operate properly. Plug the round end of the amplifier’s 5ft long USB power cable into the amplifier (as shown in figure 1). Then insert the USB plug into an open USB port on the back of your TV (see figure 2). If no USB port is available, use the supplied power adapter to power the amplifier through any standard 110V outlet (see this option in figure 3).

Note: Buy a longer coaxial cable if your TV doesn’t have enough space for an antenna behind it.

Mount Antenna

Find a convenient indoor location to mount your antenna. Try placing the antenna in or near a window facing the broadcast tower.

For big houses, avoid mounting locations that might be obscured by large trees, a shed or garage or other large obstructions. Try a few different positions to find the best location.

Scanning for Channels

After connecting the antenna to the TV, use the TV remote control to scan for channels. Here are generic steps to run a channel scan:

  1. Run the “Scan” function on your TV by pressing the Menu button on the remote control and find “Scan” or “Setup.”

    • Make sure the TV is set to “Air” or “Antenna” instead of “Cable”
  2. Below is a basic channel scan menu for your reference. Please remember that different televisions have different setup processes.

  3.  You will receive digital signals through that antenna once the scan is complete.

    • Consult your N’s manual or ask the manufacturer if you do not know how to access the channel scan function.
Note: ALWAYS rescan channels after EVERY move of the antenna, no matter how small. Re-scan for channels periodically, especially if you performed the initial scan on a cloudy day or during inclement weather as you might get some new stations you couldn’t pick up during bad weather.

More Tips for Better TV Reception and More Channels

  1. Re-scan for channels regularly (highly recommended).
  2. Experiment with different antenna locations in your house.
  3. Face the antenna towards the TV broadcast towers.
  4. Use a longer coaxial cable to reach the window facing the broadcast tower if needed.
  5. When living near mountains, tall trees or tall buildings, lay the antenna flat on a table or other surface.
  6. Place the antenna as high as possible.
  7. Use the amplifier when needed to boost reception.
  8. Eliminate Interference from electronics and electric equipment.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many channels can I receive?

The number of channels you can receive will be determined by what is being broadcast in your area. Channel reception will vary from location to location based on terrain (including trees, buildings, hills and mountains). The fewer obstructions, the better your chance of receiving strong digital signals. Go to http://dtv.gov/maps. Enter your address for a listing of likely channels available in your area.

Do I need to use the External Amplifier
The amplifier can enhance signals weakened by obstruction between you and the broadcast towers. If your TV picture is not crystal clear, or you are unable get weak signals from distant towers, you need to use this amplifier to boost the weakened signals. Note: We do NOT recommend using the amplifier if your house is very close to the broadcast tower and the signal is already very strong, A booster will cause self-oscillation and may actually end up getting fewer signals than without it.

Will all the channels I receive be High Denition (HD)?
Not all digital signals are High Definition (HD). Make sure you are using a High Definition Television (HDTV) with built in ATSC tuner. When connecting the antenna to a third-party receiver, make sure it is capable of receiving HD. Otherwise no HD channels can be picked up.

Will the picture be better than cable?
All cable companies compress their HD signals. The result is a degraded signal that is usually inferior to ATSC broadcast. Many factors determine whether your picture quality will be better in every instance. However, your picture quality should greatly improve using your 1 byone ATSC compatible digital antenna.
Can I connect the antenna to multiple televisions? Yes. However, the signal should only be split between multiple HDTVs if using an amplified antenna.

Troubleshooting

What if I can’t receive a signal with my 1 byone antenna?

  1. Check to make sure you have correctly connected the antenna to your HDTV or third-party HD receiver
  2. Re-Scan for Channels. See the Setup Guide under, “Scan for Channels” in this manual.
  3. Re-position the antenna in a different location. Maybe higher on a wall or close to a window? Facing the direction of the broadcast tower is usually best. Signal strength will vary based on certain conditions. Distance from the tower, hills, buildings and even tall trees can impact reception. Always re-scan for channels after moving the antenna.
  4. This is an amplified antenna, if a signal can not be received with the external amplifier, remove the amplifier and try again. In some instances, the amplifier may cause self-oscillation, which may interfere with the signal.
