  39. DO NOT place cloth or otherwise restrict airflow beneath the appliance.
  40. Before using your new appliance on any countertop surface, CHECK WITH YOUR COUNTERTOP MANUFACTURER OR INSTALLER for recommendations about using appliances on your surfaces. Some manufacturers and installers may recommend protecting your surface by placing a hot pad or trivet under the appliance for heat protection. Your manufacturer or installer may recommend that hot pans, pots, or electrical appliances should not be used directly on top of the countertop. If you are unsure, place a trivet or hot pad under the appliance before using it.

WARNING

RISK OF FIRE OR ELECTRIC SHOCK

  • A short power-supply cord (or detachable power-supply cord) is provided to reduce risks resulting from becoming entangled in or tripping over a longer cord.
  • Longer detachable power-supply cords or extension cords are available and may be used if care is exercised in their use.
  • If a long detachable power-supply cord or extension cord is used:
    • The marked electrical rating of the detachable power-supply cord or extension cord should be at least as great as the electrical rating of the appliance.
    • The longer cord should be arranged so that it will not drape over the countertop or tabletop, where it can be pulled on by children or tripped over.

CAUTION

  • Clogging and backing up of water and/or coffee in the Filter Basket can occur under any or a combination of any of the following conditions: the use of too finely ground coffee, not properly cleaning coffee grounds from the Filter Basket, or allowing coffee grounds to spill over the Filter Basket.
  • CAUTION: Never open the Carafe during the brewing cycle, even if no water is draining from the Carafe, since extremely hot water/coffee can spill out and cause injury. If water/coffee is not draining from the Carafe during the brewing cycle, unplug the appliance and wait 10 minutes before opening and checking the Filter Basket.

Instructions for Use

Before First Use

  1. Remove all the packaging material.
  2. Remove any stickers or labels from the appliance.
  3. Before initial use, wipe the inside and outside of the appliance with a warm, moist cloth and mild detergent. Handwash all accessories.
  4. Place the appliance on a stable, horizontal, and level surface. Do not place the appliance on a surface that is not heat resistant. Ensure that the appliance is used in an area with good air circulation and away from hot surfaces and any combustible materials. Do not place on the stove top even when the stove top is cool.

NOTE: During the manufacturing process, dust can get trapped in your appliance. We recommend flushing out the system before brewing your first pot of coffee by following the instructions in the “Making Coffee with Pre-Ground Beans” section. Be sure to use only water and the Filter Basket when flushing out the system (no coffee).

Tips

  • If you buy large portions of beans, separate them into one- or two-week portions and store them in airtight containers in the freezer. Preserve freshness by minimizing exposure to air, light, and moisture. Once beans are removed from the freezer, keep them in a sealed container at room temperature, since damaging condensation can occur when beans move from cold to warmer temperatures.
  • The amount of coffee brewed will always match the amount of water added to the Water Reservoir. If you are not using the Tumbler included with this appliance, you can first add the water to your coffee mug and then transfer the water to the Water Reservoir. This will ensure that the amount of coffee brewed fits in your coffee mug and does not overfill the mug.

NOTE: Some fine grounds may flow through the Filter Basket and appear as sediment in the Carafe.

Instructions for Use

Making Coffee with Whole Beans

  1. Open the Water Reservoir‘s lid and pour in water, using the water level indicator on the Water Reservoir to measure the water according to the number of cups desired ( Fig. A ).
    Fig. A
NOTE: The appliance uses all the water in the Water Reservoir. Ensure that you do not add more water than your desired cup size.

  2. Insert the Filter Basket in the Carafe and add coffee beans. Overfilling the Carafe might jam the grinder. Add 2 tbsp. of coffee beans (1 scoop) for every 8 oz of water. More coffee beans can be added for a stronger flavor. Be sure not to exceed the maximum of 8 tbsp. (4 scoops).

  3. Attach the Grinder Blade to the top of the Carafe ( Fig. B ). The handle on the blade will get hot after using the appliance. Proceed with caution when handling after use.
    Fig. B

  4. Slide the Carafe into the appliance and twist so that the handle aligns with the lock symbol. The handle should be facing you. If the Carafe is placed properly, it will click into place ( Fig. C ).

Making Coffee with Pre-Ground Beans

  1. Open the Water Reservoir‘s lid and pour in water, using the water level indicator on the Water Reservoir to measure the water according to the number of cups desired (Fig. A).
NOTE: The appliance uses all the water in the Water Reservoir. Ensure that you do not add more water than your desired cup size.

Making Coffee with Pre-Ground Beans

*If you have a 32 oz container, run a second time with the same ground beans and another 16 oz water in Brew mode, and mix for regular-strong brew (32 oz).

General Brewing Guidelines

Brewing the Ideal CoffeeBrewing the Ideal Coffee

There are four main components of an ideal cup of coffee:

  1. WATER QUALITY: Coffee is 98% water. This means that water quality plays a huge part in the quality of your coffee. For best results, use filtered water to remove impurities, odors, and chlorine from your tap water.
  2. COFFEE BEANS: The flavor in coffee comes from the coffee beans. The freshest beans tend to taste the best, so for best results, brew fresh coffee beans within two weeks of buying them.
  3. GRINDING: A coffee bean‘s flavor degrades quickly once the bean is broken. In addition, this appliance’s grinder is designed to release more of the oils and flavors that create the best-tasting coffee.
  4. PROPORTION: To avoid making coffee that is too weak or too strong, you want the right proportion of coffee to water. By using the measuring markings on the Water Reservoir, you can be sure that you will get the right proportions of coffee beans and water for your coffee. If you are using pre-ground coffee, start by using 1 scoop. of ground coffee or whole beans per per 8 oz of water and make adjustments based on your preferences. Do not exceed 8 tbsp. (4 scoops)of pre-ground coffee in the Filter Basket.

The Filter Basket, Carafe and lid can be washed in warm, soapy water and rinsed thoroughly or cleaned in the upper rack of the dishwasher. Dry all parts after every use.

Using Vinegar

Use vinegar to clean limescale out of the Water Tank after about 20 hours of use.

  5. To flush out all traces of vinegar, run the appliance with fresh water three times. Fill the Water Reservoir with water to the 16-oz fill line, place an empty cup or container on the Drip Collector, press the Power Button, and then press the Brew Button and let the water cycle through. Discard the water and repeat until all the vinegar is flushed out of the appliance.
