When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed, including:

  1. This appliance is not intended for use by people with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities or a lack of experience and knowledge unless they are under the supervision of a responsible person or have been given proper instruction in using the appliance. This appliance is not intended for use by children.
  2. DO NOT USE this appliance for purposes other than the purpose for which it was designed.
  3. DO NOT USE this appliance outdoors or for commercial purposes. This appliance is for household use only.
  4. DO NOT USE this appliance on stove top surfaces.
  5. DO NOT PLACE the appliance on or near a hot gas or electric burner, heated oven, or microwave oven.
  6. Only use this appliance on a flat, level, heat resistant surface.
  7. Before using this appliance, on any countertop surface, check with your countertop manufacturer or installer for recommendations about using appliances on your surfaces. Some manufacturers and installers may recommend protecting your surfaces by placing a hot pad or trivet under the appliance for heat protection. Your manufacturer or installer may recommend that hot pans, pots, or electrical appliance should not be used directly on top of the countertop. If you are unsure, place a trivet or hot pad under the appliance before using it.
  8. When using this appliance, ensure there are no flammable materials, such as curtains, paper, or plastic, close to the appliance.
  9. When cooking, do not place this appliance against a wall or against any other appliances. Leave at least 5 inches of free space on the back and sides and above the appliance. Do not place anything on top of the appliance.
  10. This appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). As a safety feature to reduce the risk of electrical shock, this plug is intended to fit in a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully into the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician. DO NOT ATTEMPT to bypass this safety feature or modify the plug in any way. If the plug fits loosely into the AC outlet or if the AC outlet feels warm, do not use that outlet.
  11. NEVER CONNECT this appliance to an external timer switch or a remote-control system.
  12. NEVER USE with an extension cord. A short power-supply cord (or detachable power-supply cord) is provided to reduce the risk of becoming entangled in or tripping over a longer cord.
  13. Always insert the temperature probe into the appliance first before plugging the cord into the wall outlet. To disconnect the appliance, turn the control dial to the off (“O”) position and then remove the plug from the wall outlet.
  14. Keep this appliance and its power cord out of the reach of children during operation and when the appliance is cooling after use.
  15. To protect against the risk of electric shock, do not immerse the cord, plug, or appliance in water or any other liquid. Do not put liquid of any kind into the Main Unit Housing, which contains electrical components. Do not rinse the appliance under the tap.
  16. DO NOT PLUG in the power cord or operate this appliance with wet hands.
  17. Make sure the voltage of the outlet being used to power this appliance is the same as the voltage indicated on the appliance’s rating label.
  18. Keep the power cord away from hot surfaces.
  19. Do not let the electrical cord hang over the edge of the table or countertop or let the cord touch hot surfaces.
  20. Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug or after the appliance malfunctions or has been damaged in any manner. Contact customer service using the contact information on the back of this manual.
  21. Unplug the appliance when not in use and before cleaning. Allow the appliance to cool before putting on or taking off parts and before cleaning or storing the appliance.
  22. Never yank the cord to disconnect the appliance from the electrical outlet. Instead, grasp the plug and pull it to disconnect.
  23. The use or replacement parts or accessories not included with the appliance may cause fire, electrical shock, or injuries.
  24. Do not cook without the base and drip tray installed in the appliance.
  25. Do not leave this appliance unattended during use.
  26. When cooking, the internal temperature of the appliance reaches several hundred degrees Fahrenheit. To avoid personal injury, never place your hands inside the appliance unless it is thoroughly cooled. Use the appliance’s handles or knobs. Always wear oven mitts when handling hot components or touching hot surfaces.
  27. Extreme caution must be used when moving any appliance containing hot foods or oils or other hot liquids.
  28. If the appliance emits black smoke, unplug the appliance immediately and wait for it to stop smoking before removing the contents.
