Security Instructions

  1. Don’t repair, disassemble or modify the device without permission.
  2. Please don’t use this device in extremely hot, cold, dusty or humid circumstances. Avoid any exposure to liquids.
  3. It is normal that the device might get warm during charging.
  4. Prevent device from falling, friction, or crashing against hard objects during use, otherwise surface scratch, battery disconnection, data loss or other hardware damages will be caused. Please also avoid violent vibration or impact.
  5. Please enjoy the music at a proper volume to avoid impairing your hearing and damaging the sound system. Before plugging your headphones into the device, please turn down the volume first.
  6. Don’t clean this device with chemicals or detergents, otherwise its surface and top coating may be damaged.
  7. The USB port is only for data transmission or charging. Please try to avoid using this device when it is charging.
  8. When the device is not in use, please charge it regularly to guarantee battery life.
  9. Please replace the battery with one of the same type as the original one, as improper replacement might cause explosion.
  10. Never expose battery to sunlight, fire or other extremely hot circumstances.

Operation Instructions

Power ON / OFF / Screen Lock

  1. Power on: Press and hold the multifunctional button for 2.5 seconds. Display will turn on.
  2. Power off: Press and hold the multifunctional button for 2.5 seconds, until Display turns off.
  3. Screen lock: Short press the multifunctional button to turn display on and off. This function is limited during calls and while browsing menu.

Pairing Mode

  1. With the UP5 turned off, press and hold the multifunctional button for 4 seconds, until “PAIRING” shows up on the display.
  2. If UP5 Is turned on, but not connected, double tap the multifunctional button to enter the pairing mode. Display will show “PAIRING”.
  3. If UP5 disconnects from paired phone, it will automatically enter pairing mode.

Pairing Timeout
If no phone is paired with the UP5 in 5 minutes after entering the pairing mode, it will automatically power off.

Pairing Process
While the UP5 is in pairing mode, turn on Bluetooth on your phone and search for available Bluetooth devices. Click on “Shanling UP5” to finish pairing process. If the pairing was successful, the display will show a currently used Bluetooth codec.

Disconnection

  1. If the distance between the UP5 and the connected phone is beyond the effective connection range, the UP5 will show “RECONNECT” message and automatically power off after 10 minutes.
  2. If you manually turn off Bluetooth on the connected phone, the UP5 will automatically enter the pairing mode, display will show “PAIRING” and if no new phone is connected within 5 minutes, the UP5 will power off automatically.

Simultaneously Connecting Two Devices

  1. After pairing the UP5 with the fist phone, turn off Bluetooth on the first phone. Now pair the UP5 with the second phone.
  2. Turn on Bluetooth on the first phone and it can now connect to the UP5 simultaneously with the second phone.

Play / Pause
Press the [>Ⅱ ] button to pause or restart playback.

Next Track
Press the [>Ⅱ ] button twice to jump to the next track.

Previous Track
Press the [ >Ⅱ] button three times to jump to the previous track.

Answering Call
Press the multifunctional button once to answer the call.

Call Switch
During the call, quickly press the multifunctional button twice to switch the call from the UP5 to the connected phone. Repeat to switch the call back to the UP5.

Ending Call
Press the multifunctional button once to end the ongoing call.

Refusing Call
When a new call comes in, quickly press the multifunctional button twice to refuse incoming call.

Volume Control
Turn the wheel clockwise to increase the volume or counter clockwise to decrease the volume.

Menu Navigation

  1. Open menu: Long press the [>Ⅱ] button to open menu.
  2. Move to next setting: Press the multifunctional button.
  3. Adjust setting: Turn the volume wheel up or down.
  4. Exit menu: Long press the [ >Ⅱ] button to close menu.

USB DAC Function
UP5 supports both UAC1.0 and UAC2.0 standards.
UAC1.0: Simply connect the UP5 to the computer or other device. No additional drivers are needed. Set the UP5 as the output device in sound settings.
UAC2.0: Install Shandling UP5 drivers on Windows computer. Set the UP5 as the output device in sound settings.

Firmware Update / USB Driver

Visit the official website at en.shanling.com and go to the dedicated page of the UP5 to download the USB drivers and latest firmware.

Companion APP

Eddict Player app allows access to additional settings and control over UP5. You can download it from Play store or Apple Store.

Common Problems

  1. It is recommended to use DC5V 1A charger. Using a charger with higher voltage may damage the Shanling UP5.
  2. If the Shanling UP5 can’t be powered on, battery might be depleted. Please recharge it and try again.
  3. In the case of system freezing or crashing, please press and hold the Power button for 10 seconds to force a shutdown. To power on after forced shutdown, press and hold the Power button for 10 seconds.
  4. If there is noise from headphones, headphone’s connector may not be fully inserted, please try to insert it again.
  5. When there is no sound, try to use different pair of headphones or different cable and make sure the system volume is set correctly.
