IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS
When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed. Read all instructions.

Danger

Risk of electric shock
A faulty electrical installation, excessive line voltage, or incorrect operation may result in an electric shock.
– Connect the slow cooker only to an alternating current (AC) power supply. Make sure that the voltage corresponds with the voltage details on the device.
The slow cooker must be operated using (120 V/60 Hz) alternating current (AC)
– Do not use the slow cooker if the if the housing cord is defective or has other visible damages. In the event of damage and to avoid risks, only have the slow cooker serviced by the manufacturer, its customer service team or a similarly qualified person.
– Do not immerse the power cord or plug in water or other liquids.
– Only connect the slow cooker to an easily accessible outlet so that you can quickly pull the plug in an emergency.
– Do not let the power cord hang over the edge of the table or counter, or touch hot surfaces.
– The slow cooker features a short power cord to reduce the risk of being entangled, and to reduce the risk of tripping. An extension cord or longer detachable cord is not recommended for use with the slow cooker.
– Never try to repair the slow cooker yourself. All repairs must be carried out solely by a qualified electrician. There are no user-serviceable parts inside.
– Immediately unplug the slow cooker if fire or smoke is emitted.
– Do not modify the plugin anyway. The slow cooker has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). To reduce the risk of electric shock, this plug will fit in a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully in the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician.

First use
Checking the slow cooker and package contents

Warning!

The danger of suffocation!
Do not allow children to play with the packaging wrapper.
They may get caught in it and suffocate.

  1. Take the slow cooker out of the packaging and check whether the slow cooker or the individual parts have any damages. If this is the case, do not
use the slow cooker. Contact the manufacturer.

  2. Check to make sure that all contents have been received (see Fig. A on Pg. 2)

Preparing for use

Preparing for use
The slow cooker must be thoroughly washed before first use in order to remove any dirt.

  1.  Place the base unit 6 on a dry, stable, flat, and heat-resistant surface near a suitable power outlet.
  2. Wash the lid and ceramic bow! 1 in hot soapy water. Rinse and dry thoroughly. The slow cooker is now ready for use.

Operation

Odor
When you first use the slow cooker, you may notice a slight odor due to the burning off of manufacturing residues. This will disappear after a few uses.

  1. Turn the control switch 4 to the OFF position (see Fig. B on Pg. 4), plug the power cord into an appropriate outlet.

  2. Add the ingredients of your choice into the ceramic bow! 2. Do not fill the ceramic bowl to the rim.
If cooking meat and vegetables together, ensure the vegetables are placed in the bowl first. For best results, it is recommended that hard vegetables are cut into similarly sized pieces to ensure even cooking.

  3. Turn the control switch to a temperature setting that you require:

LOW To cook gradually throughout the day or overnight
HIGH To cook at approximately twice the speed* of the LOW setting
KEEP WARM Keep warm after a dish has been thoroughly cooked

*A dish which will cook for 4-6 hours on HIGH will cook for 9-11 hours on
LOW.
4. Close the lid 1
The lid should not be removed during use. Frequent lifting of the lid during use can delay the cooking time.
5. Turn the slow cooker off and unplug it when the cooking is complete.

Guide to slow cooking

General guidelines
– Slow cooking is a gentle method of cooking, retaining both the flavor and nutrients in food. It allows cheaper cuts of meat to be used which will become tender and succulent. More delicate foods such as fish, fruit, and vegetables will not break up during cooking. As the temperature is low,
very little sticking occurs and very little stirring is required.
– Some ingredients are not suitable for extended cooking in the slow cooker. Pasta, seafood, milk, cream and sour cream should be added 2 hours
before serving. Evaporated milk and condensed soups are perfect for the slow cooker.

Guide to slow cooking

Some factors can affect how quickly a recipe will cook, for example:

  • The water and fat content of the ingredients
  • The temperature
  • The size of the ingredients
  • Ingredients that have been cut into pieces will cook faster
  • Most meat and vegetable combinations require at least 7 hours on low
  • The higher the fat content of the meat, the less liquid is required

– When cooking meat with high-fat content, place thick onion slices underneath, so the meat will not sit and cook in the fat. Some recipes require
browning the meat (using a frying pan or similar) before slow cooking. This is only to remove excess fat or for colouring.
– Slow cooking has very little evaporation.
– Always ensure that hot liquid is used when adding to the ceramic bowl during cooking. Adding cold liquids may cause the bowl to crack.
– Never place frozen meat or poultry in the slow cooker. It must always be thoroughly defrosted first.
– When cooking meat and root vegetable combination, always place the root vegetable at the bottom of the bow! as it takes longer to cook.
– Always cook with the bowl in position and the lid on. Frequent lifting of the lid during cooking will extend the cooking time. Do not lift the lid during the first half of the cooking time.
– Always ensure the food is thoroughly cooked before eating.
– The slow cooker can operate on LOW all day and night if required. When on the HIGH setting, it will cook similarly to a covered pot on a stove. Foods will cook in approximately half the cooking time required for LOW-temperature cooking.
– When cooking on HIGH setting, additional liquid may be required.
– Do not leave the slow cooker unattended when you are using the HIGH setting as the contents may boil dry.

Converting standard recipes/cooking times for slow cooking
– Vegetables such as carrots, potatoes, and turnips require a longer cooking time. Place them at the bottom of the bowl and cover them with liquid.
– Only add fresh milk or yogurt during the last 2 hours of the cooking time. Evaporated milk can be added at the start of cooking.
– Rice, noodles and pasta are not recommended for long cooking times (except pudding rice). Cook them separately and then add them to the slow cooker during the last 30 minutes of the cooking time.
– Dried beans (such as dried kidney beans) must be soaked overnight. They should be boiled for 10-15 minutes before placing them in the slow cooker.
– Add tinned beans 30-45 minutes before the end of the cooking time.
– When making soup, stew or sauce, reduce the liquid or water required in the original recipe. If it is too thick, liquids can be added later.
– When cooking a vegetable-type casserole, there needs to be liquid in the recipe to prevent scorching on the sides of the ceramic bowl.
– Use the following table as a reference to adapt recipes to the slow cooker:

Recipe time| Cook on LOW|

Cook on HIGH

---|---|---
30 minutes| 6-8 hours| 3-4 hours
35-60 minutes| 8-10 hours| 5-6 hours
1-3 hours| 10-12 hours| 7-8 hours
