**General Safety Information

**

****WARNING – Read the operating instructions to reduce the risk of injury.
WARNING Read all safety warnings and instructions. Failure to follow all safety warnings and instructions may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury.

  • Keep all safety instructions and information for future reference.
  • Only recharge with the charger specified by the manufacturer. Chargers designed for a specific type of battery may pose a fire hazard when used together with other battery types.
  • You must always insert the correct batteries in the lamp. Use of any other battery packs may create a risk of injury and fire.
  • When not in use, keep batteries away from paper clips, coins, keys, nails, screws or other small metal objects that could bridge the contacts. Shorting the battery terminals together may cause burns or a fire.
  • Under abusive conditions, liquid may be ejected from the battery. Avoid contact. If contact acciden-tally occurs, flush with water. If liquid contacts eyes, additionally seek medical help. Liquid ejected from the battery may cause irritation or burns.
  • Do not operate the lamp in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust. The lamp can generate sparks which may ignite dust or vapours.
  • Avoid accidental operation. Make sure that the lamp is switched off before connecting the battery and before picking up or carrying the lamp. Accidentally pressing the switch on the device or connecting the device to the power supply when already switched on can lead to accidents.
  • Always switch off the lamp when not in use.
  • Never use electrical devices with a defective switch. Electrical devices that can no longer be switched on or off are dangerous and must be repaired immediately.
  • Remove the battery or unplug it before adjusting, cleaning and storing the device or changing acces-sories. These precautionary measures prevent acci-dental operation of the lamp.
  • When not in use, keep the lamp out of the reach of children. Do not allow persons unfamiliar with the device or these instructions to operate the device.
  • Electrical devices are dangerous when used by inexperi-enced personnel.
  • Maintain the device carefully. Check that all moving parts are functioning correctly and do not seize, make sure that no parts are broken or damaged to an extent where they affect the function of the lamp. If damaged, have the power tool repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained electrical tools.
  • Do not operate the lamp without a window, or with a window that is damaged.
  • Use the lamp, accessories, etc. as described in these instructions. taking into account the working conditions and the work to be performed. Using elec-trical devices for applications other than those intended can lead to dangerous situations.
  • Always have your lamp repaired by qualified personnel only using genuine spare parts. This will ensure that the device functions safely.
  • Keep your lamp away from heat sources and fires. Do not store your lamp in moist or wet ambient conditions. Do not store in locations where temper-atures may reach or exceed 40 °C. Examples include alcoves, motor vehicles or metal structures during the summer.
  • Keep lamp away from rain.
  • Do not leave the lamp on while unattended.
  • Never use an incomplete lamp or one on which an unauthorised modification has been made. Do not switch on the lamp if parts or guard devices are missing or defective.
  • Ensure it is steady. Secure the lamp properly if it is attached to a stand.
  • Fix and secure in such a way that the connection cannot become lose accidentally (e.g. by turning).
  • Do not load the suspended lamp with additional weight. Do not use the cord as fastening option.

Protect battery packs from water and moisture!
Do not expose battery packs to fire!

  • Do not use faulty or deformed battery packs!
  • Do not open battery packs!
  • Do not touch or short circuit battery pack contacts!

A slightly acidic, flammable fluid may leak from defective Li-Ion battery packs!
If battery fluid leaks out and comes into contact with your skin, rinse immediately with plenty of water. If battery fluid leaks out and comes into contact with your eyes, wash them with clean water and seek medical attention immediately!
Warning – general danger!

  • Battery packs may not be disposed of with regular waste. Return faulty or used battery packs to your Metabo dealer!
  • Do not allow battery packs to come into contact with water!

Observe the minimum distance indicated on the device from illuminated objects. If the distance is not observed, there is the risk of overheating.

Do not direct the light beam into the eyes of people or animals.

In accordance with IEC/EN 62471 for “Photobiological safety of lamps and lamp systems”, these lamps are in the Exempt Group.

Special safety instructions for the magnets in the base of BSA 12-18 LED 2000, BSA 18 LED 4000.
Danger! Swallowing, injuries, electric shock

Magnets are not toys! Ensure that the magnets are kept out of the reach of children.
Magnets are made of metal and conduct electrical current. Protect magnets from contact with electrical current.

Warning! Crushing

Large magnets have a very high power of attraction. If handled careless, you can pinch your fingers or skin between two magnets. This can cause crushing and bruising in the affected areas.

  • Wear thick protective gloves when handling larger magnets.

Warning! Pacemakers

Magnets can affect the function of pacemakers and implanted defibrillators. A pacemaker can be switched to test mode and cause discomfort. A defibrillator may stop working.

  • If you wear such devices, keep sufficient distance from magnets (at least 1 metre).
  • Warn other wearing such devices not to approach magnets.

Warning! Heavy objects

Excessive or jerky loads, signs of fatigue as well as material defects can cause a magnet to detach from its adhesive base. Falling objects may lead to serious personal injury and material damage. The ideal adhesive force is only achieve under ideal conditions.

  • The magnet holding force depends on material thickness and condition, if required from a rubber cap.
  • Do not use magnets in locations where persons can get injured in the event of material failure.
  • When attaching the magnet, check that the holding force is sufficient. If required, secure the lamp additionally with a rope against falling.

Warning! Metal splinters
Neodymium magnets are brittle. If 2 magnets collide, they can shatter. Splinters with sharp edges can be ejected for meters and injure your eyes.
Magnets attract metal chips, metal powder. This can cause scratches on the surface when adhering / detaching. Avoid attaching magnets to sensitive surfaces. If possible, use a rubber cap.

  • Avoid collisions of magnets.
  • Wear protective goggles when handling larger magnets.
  • Make sure that nearby persons are also protected or keep their distance.

Caution! Magnetic field

Magnets generate a far-reaching, strong magnetic field. Among other things, they can damage televisions and laptops, computer hard drives, credit cards and EC cards, data carriers, mechanical watches, hearing aids and loudspeakers.

  • Keep magnets away from all devices and objects that can be damaged by strong magnetic fields.

Caution! Air freight

Magnetic fields from improperly packaged magnets can affect aircraft navigation equipment. In the worst case, this can lead to an accident.

  • Refrain from using airfreight. Otherwise, only ship magnets in packaging with sufficient magnetic shielding by air freight in accordance with valid air freight regulations.

Caution! Shipping by surface mail

Magnetic fields from improperly packaged magnets can cause malfunctions in sorting devices and damage sensitive goods in other packages.

  • Use a generously sized box and place the magnets in the centre of the package using fill material.

Note! Effect on humans

The magnetic field of a permanent magnet is unlikely to pose as a health hazard, but it cannot be completely ruled out.

  • For your safety ,avoid continuous contact with the magnets.
  • Keep large magnets at least 1 metre away from your body.

Note! Oxidation, corrosion, rust, chipping

Magnets have a thin nickel-copper-nickel coating to protect against corrosion. This coating provides some protection against corrosion, but is not resistant enough for continuous outdoor use. Collision can cause the coating to flake off and magnets can oxidise as a result.

  • Only use magnets indoors or protect the magnets from environmental influences.
  • Avoid injuries to the coating, e.g. due to collisions.

Note! Do not expose to fire. Maximum permitted temperature 80°C (175 °F)

Use

Inserting and removing the battery pack
Charge the battery pack (9) (depending on equipment) before use.

  1. Press button (8) and fold open the protective cover (7) .
  2. Slide on the battery pack (9) or remove it.
  3. Close the protective cover (7) .

The ideal storage temperature for battery packs is between 10°C and 30°C.

Switching on/off, setting the light intensity
Do not direct the light beam into the eyes of people or animals.

  1. Turn on and off at the switch (5).
  2. Change the light intensity by turning the ring (6) . When the maximum or minimum light intensity is reached, the light beam flashes briefly.

Capacity display (4)
When the lamp is switched on, the charge level of the battery pack is shown by the LED lights.

USB connection (only for BSA 18 LED 4000, BSA 18 LED 10000)
The charger is suitable for charging/operation of electronic devices with a USB interface (like Smartphones, MP3 Players, tablets, etc.) – no data exchange
Only connect USB devices which are compatible with the USB standard. Using incompatible USB devices can lead to malfunctions, damage or injury.

  1.  Open the cover cap of the USB port (3).
  2. Plug the USB device into the USB port (3) using a suitable USB cable.
  3. Disconnect the USB cable from the device after charging/use and close the cover cap.

Note: IP protection is only guaranteed when the cover of the USB port (3) is closed.

Mains connection (only for BSA 18 LED 10000)
Before commissioning, check that the rated mains voltage and mains frequency stated on the type plate match your power supply.
Always install an RCD with a maximum trip current of 30 mA upstream.

Connecting the mains connection:

  1. Open cover cap (15).
  2. Align the connector (17) of the mains connection in such a way that thee socket (16) and connector (17) fit into each other.
  3. Plug the connector (17) into the socket (16) . In doing so, the locking ring (18) turns automatically and locks the connector (17) against being pulled out.

Removing the mains connection:

  1. Turn the locking ring (18) anti-clockwise and pull off the connector (17) .
  2. Close again the cover cap (15) .

Troubleshooting

Brief flashing of the light beam every 3 minutes signals that the battery pack is almost empty and must be recharged.

Cleaning

  • Remove the battery pack from the device or pull the mains plug before carrying out cleaning.
  • Do not clean with aggressive cleaning agents.
  • Ensure that the lamp and the battery contacts are dry before inserting the battery pack.

Repairs

  • Repairs to Metabo machines must be carried out by qualified electricians only!
  • If any of your Metabo power tools require repairs, please contact your Metabo service centre. For addresses see www.metabo.com.
  • You can download a list of spare parts from www.metabo.com.

Environmental Protection

Do not allow battery packs to come into contact with water!
Protect the environment and do not dispose of power tools or battery packs in household waste. Observe national regulations on separated collection and recycling of disused machines, packaging and accessories. Before disposal, discharge the battery pack in the tool. Prevent the contacts from short- circuiting (e.g. by protecting them with adhesive tape).

Only to be used with original Metabo battery packs: 12 V (only 12-18…): 625406000, 625349000, etc.
14,4 V (only BSA 12-18…): 625590000, 625595000, etc.
18 V (all lamps): 625591000, 625592000, 625368000, 625549000, etc.
