Instruction manual

HEADSET AND NOISE ATTENUATING HEARING PROTECTOR
This hearing protector allows communication and music streaming via Bluetooth®. The headset features wireless communication and music streaming via units that are compatible with Bluetooth® and A2DP.
Warning!
This hearing protector is intended to protect the wearer from hazardous noise levels when fitted in accordance with this user instruction. Any other use is not intended and therefore not permitted. It is important that the instructions for use are followed.
Failure to do so could result in a drastic decrease of noise attenuation and may lead to serious injury.
Read these user instructions carefully!

  • The hearing protector must be worn at all times in noisy environments to provide full protection! Only 100% wear time provides full protection.
  • The audibility of warning signals at a specific workplace may be impaired due to over-protection when using a hearing protector with too high a noise attenuation erformance in relation to the noise environment.
  • When using hearing protection with entertainment audio features, remember to adjust the volume when working in noisy environments so that any warning signals etc. can be heard.
  • In some individuals, excessive sound pressure from earphones and headphones may cause hearing loss.
  • This hearing protector features the level-limiting of audio signals from the speakers to a maximum of 82 dB(A) at the ear.
  • Do not use this product in a potentially explosive atmosphere.
  • This product may be adversely affected by certain chemical substances. Further information should be sought from the manufacturer.
  • Ensure that the hearing protectors are regularly inspected for serviceability.
  • The hearing protector’s noise attenuating properties can dramatically decrease when used with, for example, thick eyeglass frames, ski masks/balaclavas, etc.
  • The use of perspiration/hygienic protection over the sealing rings can reduce the hearing protector’s noise attenuation properties.
  • Earmuffs, and in particular cushions, may deteriorate with use and should be examined at frequent intervals for cracking and leakage.
  • Immediately discard the product if it shows any signs of cracking or damage.
  • The hygiene kit should be changed at least twice a year. Make sure you choose the correct hygiene kit for your hearing protector.
  • Clean the product with mild soap. You must be sure that the detergent you use does not irritate the skin. Do not dip the product in water.
  • The hearing protector must be stored in a dry, clean environment out of direct sunlight, e.g. in its original packaging.
  • Warning! Performance may deteriorate with battery usage. The typical period of continuous use that can be expected from the hearing protector is 50 hours.

Fitting & adjustment
Brush away all hair from your ears and place the earmuffs over your ears so they fit comfortably and snugly. Ensure your ears are completely enclosed by the earmuffs and that you have an even pressure around your ears.
Headband (pic. C1)
Adjust the headband size so that it rests lightly against the crown of your head.
Helmet/Cap mount (pic. C2)
Push the hearing protectors’ helmet attachment into the helmet slot until it locks into position. Place the hearing protectors over your ears and press inwards until you hear a click.
Adjust the hearing protectors and helmet so they fit comfortably.
USER INSTRUCTIONS FOR BLUETOOTH® FUNCTIONS
Charge the headset prior to first use! See the Charging section of the user manual.
Depending on the phone model and application, some functions may not be supported or may have to be operated on the phone.
The first time you use the headset you need to establish a wireless link, “pairing”, for communication between the units. Pairing is only needed once, for each pair of units. The headset can store up to 8 different units in its memory.
PAIRING: Press and keep holding down the On/Off button (A14) for 6 seconds until the LED flashes RED/BLUE.
Activate Bluetooth® on your phone (or another unit) and select “Hellberg Xstream” in the list. (See the user instruction for your phone). If the phone requires a PIN code, enter four zeros (0000).
An audio signal with 2 tones is heard in the headset when the pairing is completed. The headset LED flashes blue. If pairing fails, switch off the headset and start again from step 1.
The pairing link is automatically established with the phone the next time the headset is switched on.
ON: Press and hold down the On/Off button (A14). An audio signal confirms that the headset is switched on and the LED flashes blue.
OFF: Press and hold down the On/Off button for 4 seconds. An audio signal confirms that the headset is switched off.
Music streaming from a Bluetooth® unit

  1. Switch on the headset (see earlier steps).
  2. Start the music player on the phone (or another unit).
  3. Play/Pause by pressing briefly on the On/Off button.
  4. Adjust the volume by pressing the volume buttons UP/DOWN (A12, A13).
  5. Move to the next track by pressing and holding down the Volume UP button for 2 seconds.
  6. Play the song from the beginning by pressing and holding down the Volume DOWN button for 2 seconds.
  7. Move to the previous track by pressing and holding down the Volume DOWN button for 4 seconds.

Answer/End/Reject call
Most phones send their own call signal to the headset. If not, 7 varying tones indicate an incoming call.

  1. Answer a call by briefly pressing on the On/Off button. 4 ascending tones confirm the call is connected.
  2. End a call by briefly pressing the On/Off button. 4 descending tones confirm the call is disconnected.
  3. To reject a call, press and hold down the On/Off button for 2 seconds. 2 tones will confirm.

The headset has a built-in speech microphone for telephone phone communication (A10). For enhanced speech intelligibility in noise, use the boom microphone (B5), available as an accessory.

The volume is adjustable in 5 levels. Adjust the volume by pressing the LD button (A15) until you reach your desired volume level. When you reach level 5 an audio signal indicates that you have reached the maximum level. Press the LD button again to go back to volume level 1.
Press and hold the LD button (A15) to switch the Active Listening function OFF.
The headset remembers your last volume setting the next time you switch ON the active listening function.

  • This hearing protector is provided with level-dependent attenuation. The wearer should check correct operation before use. If disortion or failure is detected, the wearer should refer to the manufacturer’s advice for maintenance and charging of the battery.
  • Warning! The output of the level-dependent circuit of this hearing protector may exceed the external sound level.

Low battery warning
When the battery power is decreasing and approximately one hour remains of the maximum run time, an audio signal of 3 tones will be heard in the headset. The battery should then be charged as soon as possible. The headset will turn off when the battery is drained.

Information required by E.P.A. (US)
The level of noise entering a person’s ear, when the hearing protector is worn as directed, is closely approximated by the difference between the A-weighted environmental noise level and the NRR.
Example:

  1. The environmental noise level as measured at the ear is 92 dBA.
  2. The NRR is 25 decibels (dB).
  3. The level of noise entering the ear is approximately equal to 67 dB.

Caution. For noise environments dominated by frequencies below 500 Hz, the C-weighted environmental noise level shall be used. Warning. Improper fit of this device will reduce its effectiveness in attenuating noise. Although hearing protectors can be recommended for protection against the harmful effects of impulsive noise, NRR is based on the attenuation of continuous noise and may not be an accurate indicator of the protection attainable against impulsive noise such as gunfire.
