KUFATEC 39702 DAB – DAB+ Integration

General advice

While developing this product, your personal safety combined with the best operating service, modern design, and an up-to-date production technique was especially taken into account. Unfortunately, despite the utmost care injuries and/or damages might occur due to improper installation and/or use. Therefore please read with great care and completely this operating manual and store it appropriately! For your safety, all our products pass through a 100% control check. We reserve the right to carry out technical changes which serve the improvement at any time. According to each article and purpose, it is sometimes necessary to check each country’s legal regulations before installing and starting the unit. In case of guarantee claims, the device has to be sent back to the seller in the original packaging with the attached bill of purchase and detailed defect description. Please pay attention to the manufacturer‘s return requirements (RMA). The legal warranty directions are valid.
The warranty claims as well as the operating permissions become invalid due to:

• unauthorized changes to the device or accessories which have not been approved or carried out by the manufacturer or its partners
• opening the device‘s frame
• self-made repairs on the device
• improper use/operation
• brute force to the device (drop, willful damage, accident, etc.)

During installation, please pay attention to all safety-relevant and legal directions. The device has only to be installed by trained personnel or similarly qualified people. Please limit the failure search to ca. 0,5 hours for the mechanical resp. 1.0 hours for electric laborers during the assembly or functioning problems. To avoid unnecessary additional expenses please send immediately an inquiry to our technical support using the Kufatec form (http://www.kufatec.de/shop/de/infocenter/. Please provide always the following information:

•  chassis number
•  part number of the add-on kit
•  the exact description of the problem
•  already executed labors

Safety instructions

The installation can be executed only by trained qualified personnel. Before the installation disconnects the power supply. Therefore cut off the battery from the vehicle’s electric system, following the manufacturer’s specification.

•  Never use bolts, screws and other fastening elements from the car’s safety devices or steering wheel, or brakes because it may influence your driving safety and cause accidents.

•  Connect the device only to a 12V vehicle voltage with chassis ground. This unit cannot be used in large trucks or other vehicles which use a DC 24 V battery wiring system voltage.

•  Avoid installing the device in places where it could hinder the safe driving or functional efficiency of the other units installed in the vehicle.

•  This unit is only for use with the following vehicles and model line; Only connections described within this instruction manual are allowed or required to use for installation.

•  For damage impact caused by faulty installation, unsuitable connections or assembling in inappropriate vehicle types or models Kufatec GmbH &Co.KG assumes no liability.

•  We advise you that these units process data out of the MOST protocol from the vehicle. During the assembly of this unit we as suppliers have access to a specific model and we as producers don’t know the overall system you work with.

•  Especially in case of changes within the same model line and the same model year we don’t guarantee the usability of our products. In case of the usability of our products with the manufacturer’s changes, Kufatec GmbH assumes no liability.
  Kufatec GmbH assumes no liability that the assembly of the unit described in this manual is approved according to the warranty regulations of single-car manufacturers. Please check your

• manufacturer’s conditions and warranty before you begin the installation.

•  Kufatec GmbH reserves the right to change the device specification without further notice.

References of legal regulations for the operation
Use this unit in the intended domain only. If you use the unit in a foreign domain, if the unit is not installed properly, or if the unit will be reconstructed the operating permit and warranty will expire.

Notes

NOTE SPACE OF DELIVERY
The vehicle with DAB Tuner ex-factory includes only one adapter cable for the interface.

NOTE CHANNEL SEARCH

There is no automatic channel search, it has to be done manually through MMI. A new manual channel search is necessary only for regional ensembles when the vehicle position will be changed and in this way, the regional ensemble will be altered too. In the case of national ensembles, the new channel search is not necessary.

NOTE ANTENNA MODUL

Depending on the vehicle type you need a different antenna module. This one has to be ordered separately (Vehicles without DAB Tuner). Below you will find a list of the modules:

NOTE Audi Q7 4L
For this vehicle, the antenna module is not necessary. You have only to order separately an antenna cable (article number 39713).

Installation instructions

The following presentation shows the laying of the wires and the position of the single components.

1.  FISTUNE Interface in A4, A5, A6
2.  FISTUNE Interface in Q7

NOTE
Place the FISTUNE on a proper spot. Pay attention to a firm and safe box seat. Remove the lining in front of the radio box and unscrew all 4 bolts as shown in the figure

1.  Subsequently, pull out carefully the complete box to the front.

Note

•  If the vehicle has been delivered ex-factory without a DAB tuner, please follow the instruction on page 7 „Vehicle without DAB Tuner ex Works“.
•  If the vehicle has been delivered ex-factory with a DAB tuner, please follow the instruction on page 10 “Vehicle with DAB Tuner ex Works”

A vehicle without DAB Tuner ex Works
Figure 2 shows the removed rack for vehicles without DAB Tuner ex Works.

Fasten the FISTUNE on an appropriate place. We suggest fixing FISTUNE under the radio box as shown in figure 2.

The optical fiber cable (LWL) and the normal cable need to be removed of the radio box (Figure 4 upper left, Position 2 and C show the removed fiber cable and the 8 pole plug).
Now you need to establish a connection between radio box, removed fiber cable, and the is tune by using the delivered optical fiber cable (Figure 4 red marking)
Now you need to establish a connection between the radio box, removed 8 pole plugs and the is a tune by using the delivered wiring set (figure 4 blue marking).

Important Note
There is no radio box in the side covering (trunk/driver’s side) for vehicles equipped with MMI 2G Low. The connection is established at the back side of the CD/AMI unit, which is located in the dashboard, instead. Figure 5 shows a schematic representation of the connected wires.

After the connection please carry out sufficient functioning tests. When the tests are successful than as next assemble everything in the backward sequence.

Vehicles with DAB Tuner ex Works

Figure 6 shows the removed Rack on vehicles with DAB Tuner ex works.

All plugs of the DAB Tuner need to be removed. Please loosen the marked screws and then remove the DAB Tuner. At the same position of the old DAB Tuner, you need to mount the Fistune by using suitable workshop material. The removed 8 pole plug and the optical fiber cable from the old Tuner need to be connected as shown in Figure 7 to our Fistune. For the connection please use the delivered Adapter.

Operation of the Fistune
Because the FISTUNE is completely integrated in the vehicle therefore the operation of the digital radio reception takes place through your MMI. The operation is detailed and explained in the user guide of your vehicle (pages 55 – 64).

Coding
The coding of the vehicle is after the assembly of FISTUNE not necessary. But you can add the module to the installation list under address 19. In order to execute the coding of the vehicle please contact your VW Audi partner.

Now include the encoding “0F” in the installation list.

Note
For Fistune 2G with DAB tuner, ex works this is not necessary.
