hama 00186425 Air Quality Detector
Controls and displays
- Battery label: Battery charge level
- TVOC: Total Volatile Organic Compounds in mg/m³. Substances containing hydrocarbons that evaporate at low temperatures. Values above 10 mg/m3 are considered unacceptable for hygiene. Noticeable effects are lack of concentration, exhaustion, dry skin through to eczema or headaches.
- AQI: Air Quality Index
- ON/OFF: On/Off button
- ANEW: Data cleansing and new measurement
- RESET: Instrument calibration
- HCHO: Formaldehyde concentration in mg/m³ (HCHO = CHO) HCHO: Formaldehyde is an organic chemical compound with the molecular formula CHO. Under standard conditions formaldehyde is a gas with a pungent odour. According to the European Union, formaldehyde can increase the risk of cancer. The Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) has set the tolerable concentration for CHO at 0.1 ppm, corresponding to 0.124 mg/m³.
- CO2: Carbon dioxide concentration in ppm (parts per million = 1 millionth = 1 ppm = 10-6 – corresponds to 0.001 ) The Federal Environment Agency recommends letting fresh air into the room from outside if a value of 1,000 ppm CO is exceeded.
- CO: Carbon monoxide concentration in ppm. In unventilated rooms with gas burners, fireplaces or cigarette smoke, higher values are quickly reached. If the CO concentration rises to values between 136 and 280 ppm, fatigue, dizziness and nausea occur after only two to three hours. A value of 368 ppm or more is considered to be unhealthy exposure, higher values are considered to be directly life-threatening.
- Vents: Ventilation opening
- Charging Point: Charging socket
Thank you for choosing a Hama product. Take your time and read the following instructions and information completely. Please keep these instructions in a safe place for future reference. If you sell the device, please pass these operating instructions on to the new owner.

Battery operation
Warning rechargeable battery
- Only use suitable charging devices or USB connections to charge the product.
- Do not use defective chargers or USB ports and do not attempt to repair them.
- Do not overcharge the product or allow the battery to completely discharge.
- Avoid storing, charging and using in extreme temperatures and at extremely low atmospheric pressures (such as at high altitudes).
- Charge regularly (at least quarterly) during periods of prolonged storage.
- Connect the supplied micro-USB charging cable to the micro-USB port (11) on the product.
- Connect the free plug on the micro-USB charging cable to a suitable USB charger. To do this, consult the operating instructions for the USB charger you are using.
- The battery indicator (1) indicates the charge level by means of the red-yellow-green colour code.
- When the battery is fully charged (green) the charging process can be terminated. Disconnect the product from the mains
- In the case of battery operation, the display goes out after approx. 30 minutes. Press ON/OFF (4) briefly to make the display appear again.
Note - charging process
- A complete charging cycle takes about 4 hours.
- The product’s battery can be charged both when it is switched on and off.
- When fully charged (green), the maximum operating time is approx. 180 to 240 minutes.
Mains operation
- Connect the supplied micro-USB charging cable to the micro-USB port (11) on the product.
- Connect the free plug on the micro-USB charging cable to a suitable USB charger. To do this, consult the operating instructions for the USB charger you are using.
- In continuous operation with a USB cable, the display is permanently visible.
Switching on/off
- Remove the protective film from the display.
- Press and hold ON/OFF (4) for approximately 3 seconds to switch on the product.
- After switching on, the device needs approx. 120 seconds to warm up. This is displayed in the CO field (9) and is incremented.
- The device requires an operating time of approx. 10 to 60 minutes for a meaningful measurement. In small rooms (such as cupboards, drawers etc.) the operating time is approx. 3 to 15 minutes.
- A frequent fluctuation of the display is normal and shows the constantly repeated measurements. The overall result is shown as the AQI value (3).

Endangering health
Specifically by providing the value for the CO2 concentration in the air (8) , conclusions can be drawn about aerosols with viruses (e.g. Covid 19) present in the air. Although these are not directly detectable, increased CO2 pollution is at the same time a measure of viruscontaminated air. This can be remedied by regular airing.
Permanently inhaling bad and stale air can cause tiredness, headaches, eye irritation, etc. The ability to perform and concentrate decreases noticeably as a result.
The display of the concentrations of carbon monoxide (9) , formaldehyde (7) and other volatile compounds (2) also helps to ensure that remedial action can be taken in good time by means of ventilation. Furthermore, the different displays can help to identify the corresponding sources: e.g. formaldehyde emissions from furniture, wood panelling, etc. Respiratory diseases can thus be prevented and a healthy indoor climate created.
Reset to factory settings (e.g. after relocation)
- Press and hold ANEW (5) for around 3 seconds to reset the product to the factory default settings.
- All previous measurements are permanently deleted.
Recalibration of the product
- Press and hold Reset (6) for approximately 3 seconds to recalibrate the product.
- Calibration should be carried out outdoors, as CO2 levels here are usually around 400-450ppm.
- Please ensure that there is no CO2 source in the immediate vicinity. Avoid direct sunlight and rain.
