IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
When using an electrical appliance, basic precautions should always be followed, including the following: Read all instructions before using this appliance.
DANGER
To reduce the risk of electric shock:
1. Do not reach for an appliance that has fallen into water. Unplug
immediately.
2. Do not use while bathing or in a shower.
3. Do not place, store or charge the appliance where it can fall or be pulled
into a tub or sink. Do not place in or drop into water or other liquid.
4. Unplug this appliance before cleaning.
WARNING
To reduce the risk of burns, fire, electric shock, or injury to persons:
1. Close supervision is necessary when this appliance is used by, on, or near
children.
2. Use this appliance only for its intended use as described in this manual.
Do not use attachments not recommended by the manufacturer.
3. The appliance should never be exposed to temperatures of less than – 4 ºF/
– 20 ºC and more than 122 ºF/+ 50 ºC for longer than a few hours. Keep the
appliance and cord dry at all times. Do not handle with wet hands. Do not
store in a damp environment. To avoid damage do not wind the cord around the
appliance. It is important to check the cord for damage periodically
particularly at each end where the cord enters the plug.
4. Never operate this appliance if it has a damaged cord or plug, if it is
not working properly, if it has been dropped or damaged, or dropped into
water. Return the appliance to a service center for examination and repair.
5. Keep the cord away from heated surfaces.
6. Never drop or insert any object into any opening.
7. Always attach plug to appliance first, then to outlet.
The Base Station of the PRO 4000 Thermometer provides charging and anti-theft function, as well as storage for the thermometer and the probe cover dispensers. Before use, read the use instructions carefully.
Warning: The base station is provided with a low-voltage adapter (Safety Extra Low Voltage Plug In Power Supply, type 5496). Therefore you must not exchange or manipulate any part of it. Otherwise there is risk of electric shock. The Base Station must not be operated with the patients vicinity (4.92 ft/ 1.5 m)

Inserting the rechargeable batteries
The Base Station is supplied with 1 rechargeable battery pack. To make use of the charging function place the rechargeable battery pack in the battery compartment of the thermometer. While other rechargeable batteries can be used in the thermometer, we do not recommend it as they can not be recharged in the Base Station. To protect the environment, dispose of empty batteries according to national or local regulations.
Connecting
Connect the station with the mains only via the low voltage adapter. The
green connection indicator will light up, showing that the station is ready
for use.
Charging
When the PRO 4000 Thermometer is not in use it should be stored – in its
protective cover – in the Base Station. When placed into the station, the
thermometer will give a short beep and the yellow charging indicator will
light up. The yellow light indicates that the thermometer‘s batteries are
charging. When the batteries are fully charged, the yellow light will go out.
If it comes on again later on, this indicates that the batteries are being
recharged to maintain their full capacity. When in use, the thermometer’s
display may show «RET» and the battery symbol. This means it has to be
returned to the station for charging.
Care and Cleaning
Disconnect the Base Station from electrical outlet. Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the Base Station. Do not use abrasive cleaners. Never submerge this device in water or any other liquid. Store in a dry location free from dust and contamination and away from direct sunlight.
Anti-theft function
The PRO 4000 Thermometer is equipped with an anti-theft function which
requires returning the thermometer to the Base Station within a pre-selected
time. If this time is exceeded, the thermometer will be locked. When leaving
the factory, the anti-theft function of
the PRO 4000 is turned off. Below are details to set the function and time
period:
• Put the thermometer into the station and wait for the long confirmation
beep.
• Press the start-button on top of the thermometer and keep it pressed while
you take the thermometer out of the station.
- When you release the start-button, the thermometer‘s display will show the actual anti-theft time setting. E.g. «H08» meaning 8 hours have been selected as the time for which the thermometer can be used before it has to be returned to the station.
- To change the anti-theft interval setting, press the start button again and as often as necessary until the desired time is shown in the display. «H–» means the anti-theft function is off, «H01» means 1 hour setting, etc.
- Release the start button and place the thermometer back into the station within 30 seconds. A beep will sound, confirming the setting.
- If the setting is not confirmed, repeat the procedure as described. If the anti-theft function is enabled, and when not in the measuring process (stand-by mode) the thermometer will show the time remaining before the anti-theft function shuts down its operation. «H3.5» means the anti-theft function will shut down in 3.5 hours. If the thermometer shows «RET» (without the battery symbol) on its display, the anti-theft time has elapsed and the thermometer must be returned to the station for unlocking. If the anti-theft function is not enabled, the display will show «OFF» when in stand-by mode.

Equipment not suitable for use in the presence of flammable mixtures. The Base Station must only be used with the rechargeable battery pack supplied with this unit. This product conforms to the European Directives EMC 89/336/EEC and Low Voltage 73/23/EEC.
Service
The Braun ThermoScan Base Station has a limited three year warranty. Should
service be required during or after the warranty period you must call Welch
Allyn’s Customer Service Department at
1-800-535-6663 (in Canada:
1-800-561-8797) to obtain a return
authorization number and shipping address. Repackage the Base Station
carefully in its original packaging or securely packed to avoid damage during
shipping. Include the original sales slip indicating the date of purchase, a
note describing the problem, your authorization number, and your return
address. Send the Braun ThermoScan Base Station prepaid and insured.

Limited three year manufacturer’s warranty
For Model PRO 4000 Base Station
The PRO 4000 Base Station instrument is warranted by Kaz to be free from
defects in material and workmanship under normal use and service for a period
of three years from the date of delivery to the first professional user who
purchases the device. This warranty does not cover battery packs, or damage to
the instrument caused by misuse, negligence or accident, and extends to only
to the first purchaser of the product. Additionally this warranty becomes
void, if the Base Station is operated with anything other than genuine Braun
ThermoScan® thermometers.
Base Station service or replacement will be carried out by Kaz, subject to the terms of this warranty. Loss or damage in return shipment to Kaz shall be at purchaser’s risk. Kaz reserves the right to replace a defective product with the most comparable product currently available. This product has a five year minimum expected lifetime. IN NO EVENT SHALL KAZ BE LIABLE FOR ANY SPECIAL INCIDENTAL, INDIRECT OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES IN CONNECTION WITH THE PURCHASE OR USE OF ANY PRODUCT. This warranty shall not apply to, and Kaz shall not be responsible for, any loss arising in connection with the purchase or use of any product which has been serviced by anyone other than a Kaz authorized service representative or altered in any way so as, in Kaz’s judgement, to affect its stability or reliability, or which has been subject to misuse or negligence or accident, or which has the serial number or lot number altered, effaced or removed, or which has been used other than in accordance with the instructions furnished by Kaz. IN NO EVENT SHALL KAZ’S LIABILITY EXCEED THE ORIGINAL COST OF THE PRODUCT.
This warranty is in lieu of all other warranties, express or implied, and of all other obligations or liabilities on Kaz’s part, and Kaz neither assumes nor authorizes any representatives or other person to assume for it any other liability in connection with the sale of its products.
