Certification Information

  • CE Marking: CE Marking is a certification for products sold in the European Economic Area (EEA) that ensures they meet safety and environmental standards. It signifies compliance with EU regulations and allows free movement of goods within the EEA. Products displaying the CE Mark have undergone testing and conform to essential health, safety, and environmental protection requirements.
  • Eurofins Gold: Eurofins Gold is a certification provided by Eurofins Scientific, a global testing and certification company. This designation typically indicates that a product or service has met rigorous quality and safety standards set by Eurofins, ensuring high-quality performance and adherence to specific industry requirements.
  • CARB II – TSA Title VI: CARB II (California Air Resources Board Phase 2) and TSA Title VI (Toxic Substances Control Act Title VI) certifications are related to formaldehyde emissions in composite wood products, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations. These certifications confirm that wood-based materials meet specific emission limits for formaldehyde, contributing to indoor air quality and environmental protection.
  • FSC on request: FSC, or Forest Stewardship Council, is an organization that promotes responsible forest management. “FSC on request” indicates that a product can be sourced from FSC Certified forests or that the manufacturer can provide documentation to prove its commitment to sustainable and ethical wood sourcing upon request.
  • NZWTA – Imperviousness: The New Zealand Wool Testing Authority (NZWTA) assesses the imperviousness of materials. This certification ensures that the material is resistant to the penetration of liquids, which can be crucial for applications where moisture resistance is essential.
  • ISTS – Slip rating: ISTS stands for Independent Slip Testing Services and it pertains to the assessment of slip resistance on various surfaces, such as floors and walkways. A slip rating certification from ISTS indicates that the surface has been tested and rated for its slip resistance, helping to reduce the risk of accidents and injuries, especially in public areas or workplaces.

Healthy Building Certifications

With the third party sustainability and healthy product testing, these VidaPlank products will contribute points towards achieving the following Healthy Building Certifications.

Grading Criteria

Select Grade

  • Select Grade wood includes boards with a mix of high-quality pieces and some with more knots.
  • Knots are a minimal and less visible.
  • Expect small variations in the wood’s color and some minor imperfections like checks and sapwood.
  • The filler used is selected to complement and blend nicely with the wood. The filler can vary slightly from batch to batch.

Light Character Grade

  • Light Character Grade wood encompasses both the heartwood and sapwood of the tree.
  • It has fewer and smaller knots than character grade but more than select grade.
  • While there’s some heartwood and color variation, it’s generally more consistent in color across the batch.
  • Checks, if any, are minimal, and any filler used is selected to blend nicely with the wood’s appearance, ensuring some color consistency, even if minor variations can occur between batches.

Character Grade

  • Character Grade wood encompasses both the heartwood and sapwood of the tree.
  • It allows a broader range of color variations.
  • Knots are larger, and you should anticipate some checks.
  • Filler is used, chosen to complement the wood rather than matching it exactly, and its color may vary between batches.

Rustic Grade

  • Rustic Grade, also known as natural grade, can have many knots of various sizes.
  • You’ll find heartwood and more noticeable color variations.
  • Sapwood and filler are part of the package.
  • Expect checks and the possibility of end shakes (cracks between the growth rings).
  • The filler is carefully chosen to enhance the wood’s look, even if it doesn’t match it precisely, and its color may vary between batches.

Warranty & Life Expectancy

All VidaSpace products must be installed by a competent installer/contractor who has the necessary skills and experience and can take individual site circumstances into account. VidaSpace warranty will apply only to projects which have been installed, handled and maintained to industry best practice and New Zealand Building Code requirements. It is the responsibility of the specifier to determine the product is suitable and compliant for the application.

VidaPlank has a Lifetime Structural Warranty and a 5 Year Commercial Wear Resistance Warranty & a 25 Year Residential Wear Resistance Warranty.

These warranties are provided as a guideline, and actual performance can vary. The key to maximizing the lifespan of your engineered timber floor lies in proper maintenance, which may include regular cleaning, avoiding excessive moisture, using protective mats and furniture pads, and promptly addressing any damage or spills. Additionally, the quality of the installation plays a significant role in the longterm durability of the floor. The life expectancy of an engineered timber floor will be dependent on the level of foot traffic it receives. With the ability to refinish an engineered timber floor you can extend its overall lifespan.

If well-maintained and not subjected to unusually high levels of wear, it’s reasonable to expect an engineered timber floor with a 4mm wear layer to last significantly longer than the warranty period.

End-of-Life Options

The end-of-life options for VidaPlank timber flooring depend on various factors, including the condition of the flooring, and environmental considerations. Here are some common options:

  • Refinishing: If your VidaPlank timber flooring is still in good condition but has surface wear and tear or minor damage, refinishing can extend its life. This involves sanding the surface to remove the old finish and applying a new finish, which can rejuvenate the look of the floor.
  • Recycling: If your VidaPlank timber flooring is no longer usable or cannot be reclaimed, it can be recycled. Timber can be ground down to create wood chips or used in particleboard or fiberboard production. Recycling helps reduce the demand for new timber and minimizes waste.
  • Upcycling: If the VidaPlank timber flooring has some usable sections, consider upcycling it into smaller items. This reduces waste and gives the wood a new purpose.

When considering the end-of-life options for timber flooring, it’s essential to prioritize sustainability and environmental responsibility. Refinishing and recycling are typically better options than disposal in a landfill or biomass energy generation. Additionally, local regulations and recycling facilities may vary, so it’s a good idea to check with local authorities or recycling centers for guidance on the most suitable options in your area.
