ON YOUR TURN
The game unit will tell you to move in one of two ways:
1. Move to a specific location
Move your shopper as instructed and follow any other instructions given. The
unit may direct you to move another player’s shopper as well as your own. (See
SPECIFIC GAME UNIT INSTRUCTIONS for details.)
2. Move a number of spaces
You may move up to that number of spaces. If you have any food tokens, you may
use one of them to add up to three spaces to your move. (See MOVING BY NUMBER
OF PACES for more info.) Try to move to ONE of the following:
- A store where you’ll be able to buy something on your list. But check how much the items on your list cost first to make sure you have enough cash. Smart shoppers will head to a store that’s having a sale or clearance. See BUYING AN ITEM.
- An ATM if you need cash. After you’ve bought a few items, you may need a trip here! See GETTING CASH.
- A food location (Funny Lickin’ Ice Cream Shop, the Movie Theatre, or the Food Court) to pick up a food token. Food tokens give you energy—they let you add up to three spaces to a future move. Can’t reach any of these places? Get as close as you can.
After you’ve made your move, press ENTER to end your turn. The unit will announce the next player’s turn.
MOVING BY NUMBER OF SPACES
On your first turn, the game unit will direct you to move a number of spaces.
- You can move in any direction, EXCEPT diagonally.
- You can move through and share spaces with other shoppers.
- You can enter a store only through its door. You can’t move through store walls.
- Half of the mall’s stores and the ATM are located upstairs, on the second floor. You can move from the first floor to the second and back by using the elevators at either end of the mall. Moving from one floor to the other counts as one space.
USING FOOD TOKENS
Food gives you fuel! If the game unit directs you to move a number of spaces,
you can use a food tokento add up to three spaces to your move. For example,
when you hear: “Red, move five,” you can use a food token to increase your
move up to eight.
After you’ve used a food token, place it back in the pile.
NOTE: You can never have more than two food tokens in front of you at any
time.
BUYING AN ITEM
If you’ve moved to a store and want to buy something, put your cash card into
the BUYING slot. You’ll hear one of the following phrases:
“Cha-ching!”
This classic cash register sound means you can make the purchase. Pay the
banker the amount listed on your shopping list with cash.
- Pay REGULAR price if there are no Sale or Clearance signs in the store.
- Pay SALE price if there is a Sale sign in the store
- Pay CLEARANCE price if there is a Clearance sign in the store.
Move one of your clips to the blank box next to the item you just purchased on your shopping list. Then press ENTER to end your turn.
“Hey, this is on clearance!”
Regardless of any signs in the store, pay the banker the CLEARANCE price for
this item. Move one of your clips to the blank box next to the item on your
shopping list. Then press the ENTER button to end your turn.
“Sorry, we’re out of
stock. Try again later” or “Woah, long line. Try again later.”
You can’t buy anything right now. Press the ENTER button to end your turn. You
can choose to stay in this store on your next turn and try to buy the item
again.
If you moved to a store but don’t have enough cash to buy an item, press
the ENTER button to end your turn.
If you try to buy an item and then discover that you didn’t have enough
cash (or realized that you already bought the item), you must cancel the
purchase. Re-insert your cash card into the BUYING slot. When your purchase
has been canceled, you’ll hear: “Try again later.” Press the ENTER button to
end your turn.
GETTING CASH
After buying a few items, you may need to go to the ATM to get more cash. Here’s what to do:
- Move to the ATM space on the second floor and insert your cash card into the ATM slot.
- The banker gives you the amount of money the game unit announces.
You can stay at the ATM for as many turns as you’d like, but after the second consecutive turn, you’ll receive only $20 per turn. You’ll only be able to receive the full amount announced by the unit after you leave and come back.
If you accidentally put your cash card into the ATM slot, simply cancel the withdrawal by reinserting
your card into the ATM slot. When the transaction has been canceled, you’ll hear “Try again later.” Insert your ATM card into the buying slot to make a purchase, or Press the ENTER button to end your turn.
WINNING THE GAME
Once a player has purchased six items, the game voice will announce “Now get
to the parking lot to win!”
If you reach your color parking lot before anyone else buys their six items
and reaches their parking lot, you win! Press the NEW/CELEBRATION button to
hear your winning music.
