General Safety Information
The Wesco StairKing Power Appliance Truck is designed for a wide range of functions. To insure proper use, the following instructions must be adhered to:
- BEFORE OPERATING THE TRUCK VIEW THE TRAINING VIDEO AND PRACTICE GOING UP AND DOWN STEPS WITHOUT A LOAD. A TRAINING VIDEO IS SHIPPED WITH EACH UNIT
- Do Not allow personnel other than the operator on the stairway or below the appliance truck while in operation.
- Do Not allow inexperienced personnel to operate the appliance truck.
- Do Not exceed the rated maximum capacity of 850 lbs.
- Additional personnel may be required to assist in balancing the heavy loads. Once the load is balanced, do not allow additional personnel on the stairway or below the appliance truck while in operation.
- The charger (P/N 109311) is specially designed for use with Wesco Battery (109307).
Operation Instructions
Moving A Load Up Stairs:
-
Position the load in the center of the hand truck. When in position, secure the load using a belt.
-
Place the hand truck with load in place against the edge of the stair tread with BOTH guide belts against the edge of the step.
-
Standing on the first step, pull the truck so the stair glides rest against the step. Pull the load back towards you. When balanced push the switch to the “UP” position. The lifting rollers will rotate around and contact the stair tread, lifting the truck wheels up and over the step.
NOTE: A change in the center of gravity will occur when the load shifts from the truck wheels to the lifting rollers. Keeping the weight slightly toward the operator will compensate for the change in the center of gravity. The hand truck will do the lifting; the operator must balance the load. -
Repeat this process for each step climbed.
Moving A Load Down Stairs:
- Position truck wheels about 2 inches away from the leading edge of the stair.
- Push the switch to the “DOWN” position, the lifting rollers will lift the truck wheels up and over the edge and start down the stairs. The operator must keep the load balanced.
- Repeat this process for each step climbed.

Maintenance
WARNING:
The battery should be recharged on a regular basis. Repeated total discharge
of the battery can result in battery failure.
NOTE:
If the battery voltage is allowed to fall below one (1) volt the charger will
not automatically charge the battery. For a battery with a starting voltage
under 1 volt, a “manual” charger must be used to pre-charge the battery for
five minutes to get additional voltage into the battery.
Battery:
- Check the charge level with a voltmeter or charger.
- Check for corroded and loose terminals.
- Visually inspect for any cracks or damage to the battery casing.
- Check for loose battery tie-down.
- Always fully charge the battery after each use.
- NEVER deeply discharge the battery, this will shorten the life of the battery and will prevent the charger from recharging the battery
- NEVER drain the battery all the way before re-charging.
- NEVER operate the StairKing with a deeply discharged or worn-out battery.
Drive Assembly (Smaller Single Chains):
- Lubricate drive chains with a rust inhibitor; this will extend the life of the chains.
- Remove the front panel, and check the chain tension, the chain should be tight. To tighten the drive chains, first, loosen the jam nuts (see figure 1). Turn the drive assembly adjustment screws, located on the bottom of the motor mounting plate. Chains should be tightened evenly. Re-tighten jam nuts.
Lift Assembly (Larger Double Chains):
- Lubricate drive chains with a rust inhibitor; this will extend the life of the chains.
- Always make sure lift chains are firm. To tighten the lifting chains, first, loosen the locking bolts (see figure 2) holding slide bearing plates. Turn the vertical adjustment bolts located at the bottom of the side plate to adjust the tension on the chains. Chains should be tightened evenly. Retighten the locking bolts.
Battery Charging:
- Connect the red battery charger clamp to the positive (+) post of the battery, then the black battery charger clamp to the negative (-) post of the battery.
- Plug in the charger to a grounded AC wall outlet (110V) outlet, the power light will illuminate the charger.
- Press the mode button until the 12V “NORM” Indicator Light is illuminated. This will initiate charging the battery. The status lights will show the progress of the battery charge. Once the 100% Charged Indicator Light stays illuminated (see figure 3), the battery is done charging.
