Setting Up Your Tablet

Your nano-SIM card is pre-installed, so before exploring all the great features of your tablet, set it up by installing an optional microSDXC card (sold separately) and having the tablet charged.

Installing the microSDXC Card
  1. Open the nano-SIM/microSDXC card slot cover.
  2. Hold the microSDXC card with its metal contacts facing down and slide it into the microSDXC™ card slot until you hear a click.
  3. Close the cover tightly.

NOTE:

Both the nano-SIM card and the microSDXC card can be installed or removed while the device is turned on. You need to unmount the microSDXC card before removing it. See the User Manual for details.

Installing the microSDXC Card

Charging the Battery
  1. Connect the adapter to the charging/Micro-USB jack of the tablet.
  2. Connect the charger to a standard AC power outlet.
  3. Disconnect the charger when the battery is fully charged.

WARNING!

Use only approved chargers and cables. The use of unapproved accessories could damage your device or cause the battery to explode.

CAUTION:

Do not open the back cover of your tablet and change the built-in rechargeable battery by yourself. It may cause unexpected damage. If your battery needs to be replaced, please contact customer support.

NOTE:

If the battery is extremely low, you may be unable to power on the tablet even when it is being charged. In this case, try again after charging for at least 20 minutes. Contact customer support if you still cannot power on the tablet after prolonged charging.

Powering On/Off

  • Press and hold the Power key to turn on your tablet.
  • To turn it off, press and hold the Power key to open the options menu and touch Power off.

NOTE:

If the device freezes or takes too long to respond, you can press and hold the Power key for about 10 seconds to restart the device.

Customizing the Home Screen

The home screen is the starting point for your tablet’s applications, functions, and menus. You can customize your home screen by adding shortcuts, folders, widgets, and more.

NOTE:

Your home screen is extendable, providing more space for shortcuts, widgets, and more. Simply swipe left or right on the home screen to see the extended panels. You can add or remove home screen panels, or adjust their order.

Adding Shortcuts or Widgets
  1. Touch the Home key > .
    – or –
    To add widgets, touch and hold an empty area of the home screen and select Widgets.

  2. Slide to browse the available applications or widgets.

  3. Touch and hold a widget or an application icon and drag it to a home screen panel.

Creating Folders
  1. Touch and hold a shortcut on the home screen and drag it to Folder at the top.
  2. To add more shortcuts into the folder, touch and hold each shortcut and drag it to the folder.

NOTE:

Drag a widget or shortcut to Remove at the top to remove it. Drag a folder to Remove to delete the folder and replace its shortcuts on the last home screen.

Changing Wallpaper, Theme, or Effect
  1. Touch and hold an empty area of the home screen.
  2. Touch Wallpapers , Themes , or Home.
  3. Touch to choose an option.

Checking the Device Status

The status bar at the top of the screen displays device and service status with various icons on the right side. Below are some of the icons and their meanings.

Managing Notifications

The status bar at the top of the screen provides notification alerts with different icons on the left side. Below are some of the icons and their meanings.

The notifications depend on the apps installed and you can touch and drag the status bar down to see more information.

Setting a Screen Lock

You can protect your tablet by creating a screen lock. When enabled, you need to touch and hold the screen, draw a pattern, or enter a numeric PIN or password to unlock the device’s screen and keys.

  1. Touch the Home key > > Settings > Security > Screen lock.
  2. Touch None , Long press , Pattern , PIN or Password.
    • Touch None to disable the screen lock feature.
    • Touch Long press to enable unlock with a ‘touch and hold’ gesture. You can unlock the screen by touching and holding the display.
    • Touch Pattern to create a pattern that you must draw to unlock the screen.
    • Touch PIN or Password to set a numeric PIN or a password you must enter to unlock your screen.

Adding Contacts

Creating a New Contact
  1. Touch the Home key > > Contacts.

  2. Touch .

  3. Enter the contact name, phone numbers, email addresses, and other information. Touch More Fields if necessary.
    If you have web accounts associated with your tablet, touch the contact account field at the top and select a contact type. If a sync account is selected, the contacts will be synced automatically with your account online.

  4. Touch to save the contact.

Importing Contacts in Batches
  1. Touch the Home key > > Contacts.
  2. Touch > Import/Export > Import from storage.
  3. If prompted, select an account in which to save the contacts.
  4. Select the vCard file(s) (*.vcf) and touch OK to begin importing.

Setting Up Email Accounts

You can receive email messages from your Google accounts, your IMAP/POP3 email accounts, and your company’s Exchange ActiveSync account.

  1. Touch the Home key > > Settings > Accounts > Add account.
  2. Select the type of the email account.
    • To receive your Gmail messages, touch Google.
    • To receive emails from your Exchange ActiveSync account, touch Exchange or Exchange.
    • To receive emails from your IMAP/POP3 accounts with the Gmail app, touch Personal (IMAP) or Personal (POP3).
    • To receive emails from your IMAP/POP3 accounts with the Email app, touch Personal (IMAP) or Personal (POP3).
  3. Follow the onscreen steps to enter the username, password, and other information about the account. You may also need to obtain some information from IT support or your system administrator.

Add an Account

Connecting to a Wi-Fi Network

  1. Touch the Home key > > Settings > Wi-Fi.

  2. Touch the On/Off switch if Wi-Fi is off.
    Your tablet automatically searches for Wi-Fi networks in range and displays their names (SSID) and security settings. Your tablet also connects to previously linked networks when they are in range.

  3. Touch a network name to connect to it. If the network is secured, enter a password or other credentials and touch CONNECT. (Ask your network administrator for details.)

Connecting With a Bluetooth Headset

  1. Turn on the Bluetooth headset and switch it to pairing mode. Refer to the headset’s user guide for more information.

  2. Touch the Home key > > Settings > Bluetooth.

  3. Touch the On/Off switch if Bluetooth is off. When Bluetooth is on, the icon appears in the status bar.
    NOTE:
    Your tablet automatically scans for and displays the IDs of all available Bluetooth devices in range. You could touch > Refresh if you wanted to scan again.

  4. Touch the ID of the headset, or any other device you want to pair with your tablet. Enter a password code if prompted.

  5. If necessary, touch the ID of the paired headset to connect withit. Once connected, the icon appears in the status bar.
    NOTE:
    Touch the ID again to end the connection.

Installing Apps

Before you begin, make sure that you have signed in to your Google account.

  1. Touch the Home key > > Play Store.

  2. Find the apps you need either by category or by searching.

  3. Touch the app to see detailed description.

  4. Touch Install (free apps) or the price (paid apps). If the app is not free, you need to sign in to your Google Wallet™ account and select a payment method.
    CAUTION:
    Once installed, some apps can access many functions or a significant amount of your personal data. The Play Store will show you what the app can access. Touch Continue to proceed, or touch the Back key to cancel.

  5. Wait for the app to be downloaded and installed automatically. Payment needs to be authorized before paid apps start downloading.
    The app is successfully installed and you can find the new app after touching the Home key > .

Installing Apps

Capturing a Photo or Video

You can use the Camera app to capture high quality photos and record high- definition videos.

  1. Touch the Home key > > Camera.
  2. Touch a camera mode or touch to adjust camera settings. If necessary, pinch or spread your fingers on the screen to zoom out or in.
  3. Take the picture or record the video.
    • Touch to take the picture.
    • Touch to record the video and touch to stop.

NOTE:

While video recording is in progress, you can touch to save the current frame as a photo.

Capturing a Photo or Video

Adjusting Volume

Adjust media volume, alarm volume, ring volume, and notification volume.

  • Touch the Home key > > Settings > Sound & notification.
    Drag the sliders below Media volume , Alarm volume , Ring volume , and Notification volume to adjust the volume for each type of audio.

  • When a media application is in use, press the Volume key to adjust the media volume.

  • When no media application is active, press the Volume key to adjust the ringtone volume.

Using Do Not Disturb Mode

Limit interruptions from alarms and notifications with Do not disturb mode.

  1. Touch the Home key > > Settings > Sound & notification > Do not disturb.
  2. Touch Do not disturb and select Always or Scheduled. Select Never to turn off Do not disturb mode.
    • Always: Turn on Do not disturb immediately.
    • Scheduled: Turn on and off Do not disturb on the days and at the time you set.
  3. Touch Disturb rules and select Priority only , Alarms only , or Total silence depending on whether you want to allow exceptions. You can customize the exceptions when Priority only is selected.

Browsing the Internet

You can browse the Internet in multiple tabs with the Chrome app.

  • Touch the Home key > > Chrome to launch the web browser. Chrome also opens when you touch a web link – for example, in an email or a message.
  • To open a web page, touch the address box at the top and enter the address (URL) of the web page or enter terms you want to search for.
  • Touch > New tab or touch at the top to open a new browser tab.

Optimizing Battery Life

Touch the Home key > > Settings > Battery to review battery usage, get estimated remaining usage time, optimize each app for better battery life, and use Battery saver.

  1. Touch the Home key > > Music.
  2. Touch All Songs , Favorites , Playlists , Albums , Folders , or Artists to find your song.
  3. Touch the song to play it. Touch the bottom bar to open the playback screen.
