Safety Precautions

Ariel by Solar-Breeze might look like a pool toy to some children and may lure them into the swimming pool when no one is looking.
ALWAYS WATCH CHILDREN AROUND THE WATER.
NEVER leave children in the pool or around the pool without supervision. Do not swim or dive while Ariel is on the pool surface. Ariel must be removed from the water before swimming because she presents a potential safety hazard to swimmers. Swimming with Ariel in the pool might cause the pool robot to become submerged, which may cause damage and void the warranty.

About Ariel by Solar-Breeze
Layers of dust and debris that loom on the pool surface often discourage pool owners from jumping right in. Ariel produces clean pools by combining the force of solar-pow-er and intelligent technology to effortlessly travel the pool’s surface collecting leaves. debris. dust. pollens. hair, and suntan lotions. Collecting debris before they decay and sink to the bottom is the key to a clean pool. Ariel owners enjoy a net-free world, fewer bacteria and algae growth, less filtration and sanitization needs, and less pool pump runtime. Ariel is powered by solar energy and a rechargeable lithium iron phosphate battery. and she does not require hoses or power cords to operate.

How Ariel Works

POWER AND CHARGE
Ariel by Solar-Breeze is powered by direct sunlight, and she collects and stores surplus solar power in her rechargeable battery. On a normal sunny day. enough power will be stored in the battery to allow Ariel to continue operating through the evening.
When the battery reaches a preset low-voltage level and is too low to run the skimmer, the unit will shut down automatically. This may occur primarily in the evening once the pool has been in shade for some time or on a cloudy day when the energy available from the sun is low. When this happens. the “Charge” light will remain solid red indicating a low battery. There is no need to remove the unit from the pool. When solar energy becomes available, the unit will recharge itself and start operating again. While charging. the “Charge” light will flash green. When the battery reaches full charge. the “Charge” light will turn solid green.
While Power is on but there is not enough energy to run the paddle-wheels, the “Power” light will be off most of the time but will blink green briefly. This can happen in the shade and evening with a low battery. or in the morning when the unit is charging but cannot run yet. If there are low light conditions and the battery gets very low, all indicator lights will eventually turn off. There is no need to remove the unit from the pool. When solar energy becomes available, the unit will recharge itself and start operating again.
PROPULSION AND DEBRIS COLLECTION
Ariel is propelled through the water by two paddle wheels located at the rear of the unit (where the control panel label is located). The front paddle-wheel captures debris in the collection chamber inside the apparatus. As water enters the collection tray, it passes through a fine mesh filter which removes large debris as well as very small particles. Ariel storage capacity is twice the amount of a typical pool skimmer inlet.
NAVIGATION
Ariel by Solar-Breeze has built-in sensors in the front for navigation. When the robot approaches an object. it will automatically detect the obstruction and correct its course to avoid the object.
CONTROL PANEL INDICATOR LIGHTS
Ariel’s control panel has two indicator lights that provide information at a quick glance.
POWER LIGHT
The ‘Power’ light will remain solid green when Power is on and the paddle- wheels are operating. The ‘Power’ light will be on most of the time but briefly turn off when Ariel has been placed in Standby to stop the paddle wheels (for removing from the water or for charging the unit more rapidly). You will need to press and release the power button again to return to operation with the paddle wheels running. The ‘Power’ light will be off most of the time but will blink green briefly when Ariel Power is on (and the unit is not in Standby). but there is not enough energy to operate the paddle- wheels. The unit will automatically return to operation with the paddle wheels running once there is enough energy.
CHARGE LIGHT
When the solar panels are charging the battery. the “Charge” light will flash green. Turn Ariel on or place her in Standby to charge the battery. When the unit is first placed in the sun, it may take a few minutes before the CHARGE light begins to flash. Once the battery is fully charged, the Charge light will stop flashing and remain solid green. A solid red CHARGE light indicates low battery. If the battery is not low and not charging, the CHARGE light will remain off. In a normal day, when the ambient temperature is below 110 degrees F. Ariel can be charged more quickly outside the pool by placing the unit in Standby.

NIGHT-TIME RUNNING LIGHTS
Ariel is equipped with two LED night-time running lights that flash only at night or when there is no sunlight or artificial light hitting on the solar panels. These are provided for safety so the robot is always visible in the pool when it’s dark. If the battery gets very low, the lights will eventually stop flashing.
Using Ariel for the First-Time
INSPECT THE DEBRIS COLLECTION TRAY BEFORE OPERATING ARIEL
The debris collection tray slides out the front of the unit, using the grip handle provided on the front underside of the tray. Before the operation, remove this tray in case it was dislodged during shipping or not properly engaged after storing for periods of time. Then carefully insert the whole debris tray back into Ariel by engaging the slots on both sides. When the debris tray is fully inserted, you will hear a quiet click as it locks into place. This ensures the debris will be captured in the collection area and will not simply flow through the apparatus.
PLACE ARIEL IN THE POOL
Ariel is designed with an ergonomic, non-slip handle. Use both hands when placing the robot in the pool. Hold the unit at both the front and rear before lowering her gently into the water, facing toward the center of the pool.
POWER ARIEL ON
After placing Ariel in the pool, press the power button. The green power light will come on and the paddlewheels will rotate in a forward direction. The rear paddlewheels provide propulsion and the front paddlewheel scoops debris into the collection tray. During operation, the skimmer may get debris stuck in the front paddle wheel. If this occurs, place the unit in Standby to stop the paddle wheels. clear the debris and take the unit out of Standby to restart the paddle-wheel operation. Remember that Ariel may be on, but if there is not enough energy from the batteries or solar panel to operate the paddle wheels the “Power” light will briefly flash on to indicate that she is waiting for sufficient energy.
STANDBY OPERATION
To place Ariel in Standby. press and release the power button while the unit is on. To take the unit out of Standby. press and release of the power button again. Use Standby when you want to stop the paddle-wheels temporarily while out of the pool, or you want to charge the batteries more quickly.
POWER ARIEL OFF
To turn Ariel off for storage or a longer time of disuse, press and hold the power button until the unit turns off. Please note that Ariel will not charge its battery or automatically restart operation if the unit has been turned off unless the battery has gotten so low during storage that the unit resets to factory conditions.
Caring for Ariel
CLEANING ARIEL
After a period of weeks or months, Ariel may begin to accumulate calcium or mineral deposits along the water line and also around the edges of the solar panels. Before these deposits become severe and either cause damage to the unit or impact its performance, we recommend cleaning Ariel using the following procedure:

  • Use a sponge or damp cloth to wipe down Ariel with a dilute mixture of CLR and water to break down the mineral deposits.
  • Thoroughly wash Ariel using a mixture of warm water and soap.
  • Dry Ariel using a soft dry cloth.

EMPTYING AND CLEANING THE DEBRIS TRAY & COLLECTION CHAMBER
The opening on top of Ariel makes it possible to see when the debris collection chamber is becoming full. When this occurs, simply turn off the unit by pressing the power button and lift Ariel from the pool by grasping the non-slip grip front handle and underneath the control panel. Remove the debris tray by sliding it out the front of the unit, and empty the tray and collection chamber into a trash receptacle or compost bin. Keep the tray horizontal so that the debris will not fall off the tray. Rinse the debris tray after emptying to remove any fine debris. You may also choose to wash out the inside of the debris collection chamber using a low-pressure stream from a garden hose.
DO NOT USE A HIGH-PRESSURE STREAM OF WATER TO CLEAN THE BODY OF ARIEL.
Depending on the chemical composition of your pool. you may occasionally observe red staining of the steel filter mesh in the debris tray. If this occurs, the stain can be removed by using a toothbrush and CLR. Slide the clean debris tray back into Ariel and listen for the click that indicates it is locked in place. Place the unit back in the pool and press the power button.
STORING ARIEL
If the battery is low, charge the battery until it is not low. If the battery is full, operate the unit until “Charge” is not shown as full – or at least for 30 minutes away from sun or strong artificial light when it has been operating with a full charge. Then turn the unit off.
Place the robot in a dry place. The storage temperate CANNOT be below 32°F. Store Ariel on a flat surface, or in her original storage box. Do not place heavy objects on top of her in storage.
Power Ariel up when it’s swim time! After the robot has sat idle for months, it is important to manually rotate all of the wheels before powering her up.
DISPOSAL
Ariel contains a lithium technology rechargeable battery which may have special handling requirements if disposing of the unit.
