Congratulations on purchasing your new air purifier: the Shield. Now you can enjoy its protection.
The Shield was designed using a JVD® patented innovation. To get the most out of your product, please take the time to carefully read these instructions.

THE INSTALLATION PROCESS

IMPORTANT SAFETY MEASURES

• The installer must comply with the country’s installation standards applicable on the installation date.
• Clearly damaged products must not be used.
• Before use, ensure that the power rating stated on the product matches your main power supply.
• If the power cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its after-sales service, or a similarly qualified person in order to prevent any risk.
• Do not let the power cord be pulled or crushed by a heavyweight.
• Do not plug other electrical appliances into the same circuit. This may cause the plug to heat up and result in a fire.
• Never submerge the power cord, plug, or appliance in water or other liquid as that may result in electrocution.
• Never operate the appliance on or place it near a hot surface (such as a gas or electric hob, radiator, fireplace or oven).
• Never disassemble your appliance or replace the internal parts as that may cause a hazard.
• To avoid the risk of fire, do not operate the appliance in the presence of explosive and/or flammable fumes.
• Place the appliance on a flat, stable surface while in use.
• Do not lie the appliance down or turn it upside down.
• Do not put the appliance in an oxygen-free or damp environment.
• Do not put the appliance in a bathroom or a room with humidity over 80%.
• This appliance contains a UV-C emitter.
• Using the appliance in an incorrect manner or damaging the casing may result in a dangerous UV-C leak. UV-C emissions may cause damage to the eyes and skin, even in small amounts.
• Users must not replace the UV-C bulbs in the Core themselves. The entire core must be replaced as part of the maintenance schedule and this should normally be done every three years.
• The appliance may be used by children 8 years and older, by people with reduced physical, sensorial and mental capacity, and by those with no experience or prior knowledge, as long as they are correctly supervised, have been given instructions about using the appliance safely, and understand the potential risks.
• Children must not perform any cleaning or maintenance without supervision.
• Keep the appliance and cord out of the reach of children aged under 8 years.
• Children must not play with the appliance.
• Do not block the air inlet or outlet gratings while the appliance is in use.
• The incorrect use of this appliance, or the use of it in a manner contrary to these instructions, may result in burns and electrocution.
• Never leave the appliance in its protective bag when it is in use.
• Read the cleaning and maintenance instructions.

POSITIONING THE APPLIANCE IN THE ROOM

For your appliance to operate with optimal performance, the Shield must be positioned in the center of the room.

The Shield’s performance will be impaired if placed against a wall or at one end of the room. Select a smaller space if you want to
improve its performance.

Before use, check that the appliance’s air inlet and outlet gratings are clear, and the gratings are not facing any furniture or other obstacle. Do not position the appliance at a controlled mechanical ventilation inlet. Never leave the appliance in its protective bag when it is in use.

QUICKSTART GUIDE

OPERATING THE SHIELD

1. PLUGIN AND TURN ON YOUR SHIELD
   Wait a few moments for the HOME screen to be displayed. This initialization time is shown by a progressively illuminated JVD logo in the center of the screen.

2. SELECT YOUR ROOM SIZE
   After the appliance has finished starting up, the screen will ask you to select your room size.| 10 – 20 m2

For an area with greater restrictions, you can change the room size setting to boost performance. For areas greater than 60 m2 , it is best to add another Shield.

3. SELECT THE PURIFICATION MODE

CONTINUOUS mode: For continuous protection, activate this mode to purify the air in your room for 8 hours.

BOOST mode: In the event of unusual events (strong odors or greater risk of contamination or pollution), activate BOOST mode to intensively purify the air in your room.

USING CONTINUOUS MODE

The Shield was designed using a JVD® patented technology. CONTINUOUS mode provides optimum purification for a period of 8 hours and shows on the screen as a slow glow/fade.

After the 8-hour purification, the cycle ends.
The Shield will then await further instructions.

Changing the area being purified| | During a CONTINUOUS purification cycle, you can change the area being treated. Select a new area by pressing the desired button.
Switching to BOOST mode| | Press BOOST to start a shock purification. Refer to the BOOST section of these instructions for information about this mode.

mode| | Press HOME. This takes you back to the HOME screen. The purification cycle will stop. The Shield will then await further instructions.

USING BOOST MODE

BOOST mode is a shock purification mode. Its purpose is to treat potent nuisance sources in a short time (one-off unpleasant odors,  pollution, contamination, and allergens) and the mode shows on the screen as a quick glow/fade. JVD® ’s patented Shield technology adapts to the size of your room.

At the end of the BOOST cycle, the appliance will automatically switch back to the previous mode.

being purified| | You cannot change a purification area during BOOST mode. If you do wish to change the purification area, press HOME to return to the HOME screen.
Select the new purification area, then restart the BOOST mode.

Refer to the CONTINUOUS section of these instructions for information about this mode.
Stopping BOOST mode| | Press HOME. This takes you back to the HOME screen. The purification cycle will stop. The Shield will then await further instructions.

We recommend activating BOOST mode no more than three times an hour. More frequent use will reduce your appliance’s lifespan.

SLEEP

Your Shield has a SLEEP mode. This means no purification cycle is being performed. In SLEEP mode, the appliance is in its energy-saver mode, the screen is off, and only The HOME button is visible. The SLEEP mode can only be accessed from the HOME screen.

SLEEP| Activating the mode| | Press HOME when you are on the HOME screen. This means no purification cycle is being performed.

Automatic standby| | After 15 minutes of being idle, the Shield will automatically switch to SLEEP mode.
Stopping SLEEP mode| | Press HOME. This takes you back to the HOME screen. The Shield will then await further instructions.

LOCK

In order to protect your Shield from changes made by another person, you can lock the access to your appliance even when a purification cycle is in progress. The LOCK mode locks the entire screen.

LOCK| Activating the mode| Press for 3 seconds| Regardless of which screen you are currently on, press HOME for at least 3 seconds. This locks the Shield.

This unlocks the Shield. It will take you back to the original screen.

Even when the LOCK mode is on, you can visually identify the current purification cycle by what the HOME button is doing.

SITUATIONS

• 24/7 MODE

The Shield was designed using a JVD® patented technology. CONTINUOUS mode provides optimal purification for a period of 8 hours.
However, in the event of permanent nuisances (areas with high sanitary restrictions, persistent odors, ongoing high use area, etc.), you can program the Shield to operate 24/7. The CONTINUOUS button will glow steadily.

24/7 MODE| Activating the mode| Press for 3 seconds| Press the CONTINUOUS button for at least 3 seconds.

Changing the area being purified| | During a 24/7 cycle, you can change the area being treated. Select a new area by pressing the desired button.
Activating the BOOST mode| | Press BOOST to start a shock purification. At the end of the cycle, the Shield will revert to 24/7 mode.
Stopping 24/7 mode| | Press HOME. This means no purification cycle is being performed.
The Shield will then await further instructions.
| Press CONTINUOUS. The Shield will start an 8-hour CONTINUOUS cycle.

• MAINTENANCE/FAULTS

RED

| Fast flash| MAINTENANCE – Your Core is at the end of its lifespan. In this situation, your Shield will still operate but will not provide optimal purification performance. Contact your distributor or our JVD teams to order a new Core. Refer to the Maintenance tab.

Steady| FAILURE – A failure has been detected in your appliance. In this situation, your Shield can no longer operate. Contact the JVD helpline on +33 (0)2 40 75 96 30.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE

1. Managing contamination
   The appliance reduces the airborne microbial load in order to limit contamination between individuals during the airborne phase. The

   If the appliance is in an environment with a high particle load over 2.5, the Core will need to be changed more frequently.

3. Managing odors
   The nose is an extremely sensitive organ. It is capable of detecting certain odors even at extremely low concentrations. Our appliance treats 99.9% of this type of pollution and manages its noxiousness. Despite this, some odors may persist.

4. Purifying a large area
   The appliance is optimized for areas measuring 20 m2 to 60 m2 with normal levels of use for that area and volume of space.
   You should increase the number of pollution removal and decontamination points to ensure continued performance when the area is heavily used. For larger areas, you should increase the number of appliances.

5. Exposing the appliance to halogen compounds
   When purifying an area containing halogen and sulfur compounds, the Core must be changed more often to prevent the risk of deactivation.

CLEANING AND MAINTAINING YOUR APPLIANCE

CLEANING

1. Unplug the appliance.
2. Clean the screen every month using a microfibre cloth.
3. Clean the cover every month using a microfibre cloth. Remove any dust that has accumulated on the air inlet and outlet gratings.

MAINTENANCE

Read the maintenance instructions below before opening the appliance.

After three years of use, or when the HOME button flashes red, you must replace your Core in order for your air purifier to continue at its optimal performance
Unplug the appliance
The appliance must be disconnected from the power supply before any work is done on it.

Replacing the Core

1. Unscrew the three screws in an anticlockwise direction.
2. Gently lift off the cover.
3. &
4. Unplug the two electric wiring harness connectors.
5. Gently lift out the Core.
6. Unpack the new Core. Keep the packaging to use when returning the old Core to JVD.
7. Position the new Core, checking that the connectors are opposite the wiring harness connectors.
8. &
9. Reconnect the connectors.
10. Put the cover back on, according to the direction of the label on top of the Core.
11. Screw the three screws back in, in a clockwise direction.

Here at JVD, we have always aimed to design quality products that last.
The Shield has been designed to combine technical performance and durability. Its spare parts are available for 10 years. Please contact our JVD teams to extend the lifespan of your appliance.
This warranty is voided by any connection errors and damage caused by improper use or failure to follow these instructions. This equipment meets the requirements set out in the European directives 2014/30/UE, 2014/35/UE and 2011/65/EC.

This icon means the product must not be mixed with other household waste (anywhere in the EU). To protect the environment and human health from unauthorized waste disposal, recycle it with care to promote the sustainable reuse of material resources. Recycle your used device via waste collection systems or by contacting the retail outlet where you purchased the product, which will be able to recycle the device.
