I thought the same thing till I realized it takes a battery. It comes with the battery already installed but you have to take it out and remove the plastic and then it should work.

It will record just a little over an hour. I purchased the 32gb ultra SanDisk memory card(the one recommended toward the bottom, where they suggest what to buy along with the camera).I just recorded about 4 hours of video and have room for a lot more.
