INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
- Wearing eye protection and leather gloves, perform the following steps.
- Wipe pliers clean of any excess oil prior to installing grip
- DO NOT lubricate pliers prior to grip install as this will interfere with heat shrink band adherence.
- Remove the heat shrink band from the cardboard tube by crushing cardboard in on itself, rotate 90° and crush again. (FIG. 1)
- Use the knurl on your 201-7CST ironworker pliers to grab and pull the cardboard from the heat shrink band, thereby removing it. (FIG. 2)
- Slide the band over the top, above the ribbed section of the milker grip, twisting if necessary, to spin it on. (FIG. 3)
- Slide the grip on as far forward onto the straight handle as possible without the grip interfering with the pliers ability to close fully, ensuring the ribs face outward. (FIG. 4)
- Put the head of the pliers in a vise, away from flammable materials.
- Read, understand, and follow any instructions included with your heat gun including any limitations on its use.
- Apply heat to the heat shrink band with a heat gun on its lowest setting. (FIG. 5)
- Move heat gun continuously around as much of the clamp’s surface as possible. Do not apply heat to one spot too long. Move gun continuously.
- Do not apply any more heat or time than it takes to shrink down the heat shrink band – start with low settings to not overheat the parts.
- Let the parts cool to the touch before testing out your installation.
- The band should begin shrinking in a few seconds and will take on a glossy, glass like appearance when fully heated. Allow the pliers to cool for 30 minutes before handling.
- A properly installed grip with the neck band shrunken in place should stay in place when you try to twist the grip on the plier handle. The grip and clamp should not move when using reasonable torque.
