Motion detector with pet tolerance

1. Product description

The device detects the movements of persons using a passive infrared sensor (PIR).
It reacts most sensitively to movements that are tangential to the monitored area (1a / R1).
Motion below the device is detected by the creep zone (1a / R2).
Movements directly towards the detector have a reduced sensitivity of approx. -50% (1b).
The detector does not switch until the brightness drops below the set value (twilight threshold).
The switching duration is extended as long as movements of persons are detected. Small animals cause unwanted switching of the load. To minimize the switches caused by small animals, activate pet immunity.

Products that are indicated as accessories are not included in the scope of delivery.

2. Application

The detector is suitable for indoor and outdoor use for lighting control.
Adhere to the following during installation:

• Install only on stable walls or ceilings.
• Mask moving objects in the monitored area by covering up the lens.
• Do not place any lamps underneath or next to the detector at a distance of less than 1 m away (2a).
• Do not install in direct cold (2b) or hot air flows (2c).
• Pet immunity works best at installations height between 2 and 3 m and an inclination between 0° and 10° downwards (1d). If the downward inclination is more than 10°, the pet immunity is impaired.

3. Safety notes

Ensure that the electrical lines are de-energised before installation.
Installation is only permitted by electricians in compliance with local legislation.

4. Installation (4)

The detector is intended for wall and ceiling installation at a height of 2 to 5 m.
The diameter Ø of the monitored area depends on the installed height and the inclination angle.
Install the detector as follows:

• Remove the socket and fasten the socked to the wall or ceiling surface.
• Wire the detector according to item 5.
• Fasten the detector by click in into the socket.
• Configure device according to item 7.

5. Wiring (7)

The electrical circuit must be protected with a circuit breaker. The external push-button switches the current conduction line to the R terminal. Use push- buttons without a glow lamp and keep wires short.

Remove the wire between L and D1 to achieve a potential free relay output.
If the wire remains between L and D1, the load can be directly connected to D2 (7b).

6. Connection of loads

High inrush currents shorten the service life of the relay which is integrated in the detector. Adhere to the technical specifications provided by the manufacturer of the lamps and lighting equipment to avoid overloading the relay (3a–b). To keep the circuit well-arranged, we recommend switching no more than 3–4 detectors in parallel. If there is an above-average number of switching cycles or in case of increased loads, we recommend switching the load via an external contactor.

7. Configuration

The detector is ready for operation about 1 min after mains connection. Parameter changes must be made during operation either by adjusting the device’s potentiometers or by using the remote control (accessory).

8. External button

The light can be switched on and off at any time by the push-button. Both conditions (ON and OFF) are extended with each detection. After the last detection, the condition is still active for the set delay time. Press and hold the push-button to switch the detector to the 6 h ON and 6 h OFF conditions.

The conditions 6 h ON and 6 h OFF are cancelled before the time elapses by pressing the push-button again briefly:

9. Mini remote control (RC-SG 4000)

Activate or deactivate the load manually for 6 hours ON / OFF (5a) (same function as external push button). Use AUTO (5b) to set the detector back to automatic mode. Additionally the pet immunity can be activated (5c) or deactivated (5d).

10. Display

The following statuses are indicated by the LED. Parameter changes can be made at the detector’s potentiometers or by using the mini remote control RC-SG 4000 or the installer remote control PIR-IR-RC3 (accessory). When a parameter change is confirmed, the detector briefly switches off the relay output.

11. Troubleshooting

The switching output does not switch:

• Twilight threshold too high
• Check the lamp / fuse protection
• Deactivate pet immunity
• Increase range

The switching output switches too frequently:

• Twilight threshold too low
• Cover the lens (4b)
• Activate pet immunity
• Decrease range

12. Technical data

Warnings regarding installation

The installation of products that will permanently be part of the electrical installation and which include dangerous voltages, should be carried out by a qualified installer and in accordance with the applicable regulations. This user manual must be presented to the user. It should be included in the electrical installation file and it should be passed on to any new owners. Additional copies are available on the Niko website or via Niko customer services.
