CONTROLS

MODE SWITCH – The CLONE THEORY has two CHORUS modes and one VIBRATO made. IN CHR 1 mode, you can control the rate of modulation using the RATE control, but the DEPTH is preset to what we consider the perfect chorus. This means the DEPTH control is inactive. IN CHR 2 mode you have full control of your chorus tone. The RATE control adjusts the rate of modulation and the DEPTH control adjusts the depth of modulation. In VIBR mode, the dry voice is taken away, changing the effect from CHORUS to VIBRATO. In VIBR mode you have full control. The RATE control adjusts the VIBRATO’s rate of modulation and the DEPTH control adjusts the VIBRATO’s modulation depth.

  • RATE CONTROL– Adjusts the RATE of modulation.
  • DEPTH CONTROL– Adjusts the modulation depth. Inactive (preset) in CHR 1 mode.
  • FOOTSWITCH – Selects whether the CLONE THEORY is engaged or in True BYPASS. The corresponding LED will be lit when the pedal is engaged, and dark when True Bypassed. In True Bypass, the input signal is connected directly to both the MAIN and STEREO output jacks.
  • INPUT JACK – This ¼” jack is the audio input to the CLONE THEORY.
  • MAIN OUTPUT JACK – This ¼” jack is the main audio output from the CLONE THEORY. Use this jack from mono operation. When the CLONE THEORY is in True Bypass mode, the MAIN OUTPUT jack is connected directly to the INPUT jack.
  • STEREO OUTPUT JACK – This ¼” jack is the second audio output from the CLONE THEORY. When the CLONE THEORY is in True Bypass mode, the STEREO OUTPUT jack is also connected directly to the INPUT jack.

A NOTE ABOUT STEREO OPERATION:

The STEREO OUTPUT is 180o out of phase from the MAIN OUTPUT. This means that the extremes of the modulation will be heard at opposite moments at each output. Try plugging the CLONE THEORY in to two amplifiers (one from each output) and notice the panning effect between the two amplifiers. Control the panning using RATE and DEPTH.

OPERATION AND WARNINGS

Power, from the internal 9-volt battery or external battery eliminator, is activated by plugging into the input. The input cable should be removed when the unit is not in use to avoid running down the battery. The input impedance presented at the Input Jack is 480 kohms. The output impedance at both the Main and Stereo Output Jacks is 300 ohms. The barrel connector on the front of the CLONE THEORY is for a 9-volt battery eliminator capable of delivering 100 mA of current. The inner ring of the 9-volt battery eliminator must be negative, the outer ring positive. The unit’s battery may be left in or taken out when the eliminator is in use. To change the 9-volt battery, you must remove the 4 screws on the bottom of the CLONE THEORY. Once the screws are removed, you can take off the bottom plate and change the battery. Please do not touch the circuit board while the bottom plate is off or you may damage a component.

The optional 9V power supply from Electro-Harmonix is US96DC-200BI (same as used by Boss ™ & Ibanez™) 9.6 volts/DC 200ma. The barrel connector on the front of the CLONE THEORY is for the 9-volt battery eliminator capable of delivering 100 mA of current. The inner ring of the 9-volt battery eliminator must be negative, the outer ring positive. The unit’s battery may be left in or taken out when the eliminator is in use.
