Babysense monitors and alerts, but cannot prevent any type of distress. The responsibility for applying first aid rests on caretakers. The Babysense senses breathing movements and motion only, and cannot monitor other occurrences. The purpose of the device I to alert when stopping or slowing of breathing and movement occurs.

Babysense is a unique safety system that has helped save infants, giving parents (or caregivers) assurance, by enabling intervention in the event of irregular breathing movement or distress, before it becomes critical. Thereareanumberofcautionary steps, which are internationallyrecommendedforSAFE SLEEPING:

  • Always lay baby to sleep on his or her back.
  • Refrain from smoking near or around the baby.
  • Avoid over-heating of the baby’s surroundings.
  • Do not leave any objects near your baby that can cause suffocation.

Babysense Connect is an addition to these precautions.
Babysense Connect is a home movement monitor for infants up to one year of age and is not to be used with high-risk infants requiring constant medical supervision.
Medically trained staff such as nurses, and ornon-medically trained users such as parents or caregivers may use the BabysenseConnect.
Babysense Connect is intended for home use.

Principle of Operation

Babysense continually detects ba by’s motion and breathing movements will set off a sound and visual alarm if movement stops within 20 seconds or if the breathing rate slows below 10 breaths per minute per minute. The system’s non- touch, under the mattress sensor pads monitor the baby’s movement without restraining him.

Installation

  1. To insert the batteries, remove the battery cover by placing your thumb/finger in the opening recess and gently pulling away from the control unit (see illustration 7). Insert, in accordance with the markings, 4 new and identical Alkaline size AA 1.5-volt batteries and close cover.
Note: Please dispose of used batteries in accordance with local waste regulations.
Note: Once batteries are inserted the Blue LED will flash 3 times indicating that BLE is activated. If the Red LED flashes 3 times it indicates an internal system error (please contact the manufacturer at support@babysensemonitors.com).

  2. Place the control unit holder on the base of the crib or bed and in between two bars as shown in illustration 1.

  3. Sensor pad installation:
In a crib/bed, the 2 sensor pads need to be placed 15cms apart from each other. Locate the center of the crib and place each sensor pad 7.5cms away from the center
In a bassinet, the sensor pads should be placed side-by-side See illustration 2
PLEASE NOTE: The sensors should be placed with the marking “THIS SIDE UP” facing up.

  4. If the mattress cannot be in contact with the sensor pads, or when using a crib/bed equipped with a spring base, soft base, or padded base, place an extra wooden board (plywood) under each sensor pad, as shown in the illustration 3. The recommended size of the board is at least 17’’ x 11’’ and 1/2’’ thick.

  5. Pass the cords of the sensor pads through special openings in the holder (see illustration 4).

  6. Attach sensor pad connectors to the outlets marked “SENSOR” on the back of the control unit (see illustrations 5 and 6).
PLEASE NOTE: Do not attach any cable to the blocked socket, marked “DO NOT USE” (see illustration 7)

  7. Should the design of the crib not allow proper installation with the control unit holder, please use the supplied hanging hook (see illustration 6). Hang the control unit from the bottom edge of the crib or affix the hook with a screw (not supplied) to the bottom edge of the crib and hang the control unit from the bottom edge of the crib.

  8. Press the control unit holder or hanging hook firmly and fully into a slot in the back of the control unit (see illustrations 5, 6, and 7).

  9. Place mattress securely on top of sensor pads, ensuring the connection between the mattress and sensor pads is established.

The layout of the Control Unit

See illustration 8 for the layout of the control unit featuring:

  • ON/OFF Power Button
  • Green LED: power indicator
  • Red flashing LED: visual alarm
  • Green Breathing Movement indicator light
  • Orange intermittent flashing LED: low battery indication
  • Orange constant flashing LED: critically low battery indication
  • Blue LED: BLE activation/deactivation

Operation

WARNING: Please note that the green LED (power indicator) is not an indicator of the breathing movements of the baby. It only indicates that the Babysense Connect monitor is ON. When breathing and movement are sensed, the green breathing movement LED light flashes.

Babysense is ready for operation and uses once the installation is completed. To operate, follow the below instructions:

  • Place your baby in a crib/bed.
  • Turn the control unit on by pressing the ON/OFF button.
  • Make sure Green Power Indicator LED is illuminated briefly.
  • When breathing and movement are sensed, the green breathing movement indicator light flashes. NOTE: This is not an indication of the baby’s breathing movement rate but that breathing and movement are being sensed. Acoustic and visual red alarm lights are activated if the baby’s breathing stops or slows significantly.
  • If the Orange LED light flashes in 5-second intervals and Green Power LED is on (low-battery warning), replace all batteries as soon as possible. If the Orange LED constantly flashes with no Green Power LED, all batteries must be replaced immediately.
  • Turn off the control unit by pressing the ON/OFF Power Button before taking your baby out of the crib/bed. Make sure the Green LED is off and no other lights are seen thereafter, to indicate the device is turned off.

Note: Ensure that the auditory alarm can be heard in all locations throughout the home or place of care and that the Babysense Connect Control Unit is hung with the LEDs facing out so that they are easily visible.

Testing Operation

Babysense Connect is a highly sensitive device, which monitors a baby’s breathing movements through the mattress during sleep. There are two main causes of malfunction – technical malfunctions and malfunctions due to environmental factors.

Technical Malfunction

In order to minimize technical problems, follow installation and operation instructions carefully.

Environmentally Caused Malfunction

Due to the high sensitivity of Babysense Connect, fans, wind, air- conditioning, and other similar environmental devices can influence it. Such environmental factors could be picked up by the sensors on a similar level to that of slight breathing movements, thus preventing or delaying alarm activation.
If the Babysense Connect is concurrently used with other devices, it is required to conduct the Daily Performance Test (see Daily Performance Test Section) under an environment identical to the actual situation and while all concurrently used devices are “ON”. Under such conditions, it is required to verify that the acoustic and visual alarms of Babysense Connect are activated

Daily Performance Test

Do not conduct performance tests by picking the baby up out of the crib/bed and waiting for the alarm to sound
The performance test should be conducted while the baby is not in the crib/ bed.
Turn the device on and take two steps away from the bed.
Ensure that the alarm goes off within 20 seconds (due to the absence of breathing movement).
The alarm may sound with or without preliminary ticking.
Check that alarms can be heard in all locations throughout the home or place of care. Please ensure that the Babysense Connect Control Unit is hung with the LEDs facing out so that they are easily visible.
In case the alarm does not sound within 20 seconds refer to the ―Troubleshooting Guide‖ section.
The Daily Performance Test must be conducted daily and every time you move the monitor, change bedding or relocate crib/bed position.
If using the Babysense App, please follow the daily performance test process as per App instructions.

False Alarms

Isolated cases of false alarms are possible. Should one occur, check to see if caused by a faulty connection of sensor pads to the control unit or if there is no direct connection between the mattress and sensor pads.
In case of false alarms, kindly refer to the “Troubleshooting Guide‖ section. If the problem cannot be solved, please contact the manufacturer’s service personnel.

In the event of an alarm

Should the alarm activate act immediately and:

  1. Approach the crib/bed and check to see if the baby is breathing.
  2. If your baby is not breathing or does not seem right, apply relevant first aid and seek medical assistance immediately.
  3. If your baby is breathing, consult with a medical practitioner to ensure there is no cause for concern

  • If solid Orange LE Dflashes consistently with no Green Power Indicator LED all batteries must be replaced immediately

False alarm up to 30 seconds from activating|

  • The sensor pad is out of order.
  • The cable is connected to the monitor’s blocked socket.

|

  • Connect one sensor pad and lay the baby on the bed for 1 minute. If the alarm does not activate, the sensor pad is in order. If the alarm activates, disconnect and place the sensor pad aside.
  • Connect the other sensor pad and repeat the steps above.
  • Do not connect any cables to the blocked socket (only connect to the “SENSOR” socket).

False alarm after 30 seconds from activating|

  • The mattress is not touching the sensor pads.

|

  • Makesurethatthemattressandthesensor pads are touching. If necessary, to ensure a firmer connection add plywood under the sensor pads.

  • The mattress is raised due to an object obstructing the connection between the sensor pads and the mattress.

|

  • Make sure that there are no objects next to the sensor pads or between the sensor pads and mattress.

  • The mattress does not enable the transfer of baby movements (a rigid mattress, a mattress with springs, or a mattress with air pockets).

  • Soft or spring bed/crib base.

|

  • Placeextra plywood u under the sensor pad so that the sensor pad and the mattress will be tightly pressed together.

No alarm due to Incorrect testing of the monitor by taking baby out of the bed to test for alarm activation|

  • The performance test used is incorrect.

|

  • Taking your baby out of the crib/bed and waiting for the alarm to activate will not properly test the natural operation of the Babysense Connect.

The alarm does not go off within 20 seconds when performing the Daily Performance Test| · Environmental influences detected by the sensor pads, such as wind, fan, air conditioner, baby mobile toy, vibrations.|

Perform a test that will detect the source of the movement that the device detects. For Example, sources of wind such as an air conditioner, an open window, or a fan; movements of a baby mobile toy (which can vibrate even if it is not turned on), or walking around the bed area. Solutions: Eliminate sources of wind, remove the mobile toy, etc.

After neutralizing all environmental influences, perform the test again. If even after neutralizing all of the environmental influences, the alarm does not go off within 20 seconds, perform the following:

1. Test the control unit:

– Disconnect all cables from the control unit.
– Turn the control unit on (with no cables attached).
– Alarm activation within 20 seconds indicates that the unit is OK – proceed to the next steps.
– If the alarm does not sound within 20 seconds, stop using the device and contact your local distributor.

2. Test each sensor pad separately:

– Connect one sensor pad to either of the “SENSOR” sockets on the control unit.
– Turn the control unit on and take two steps back from the bed.
– Alarm activation within 20 seconds indicates that the sensors are OK- perform the above procedures with the second sensor pad.

– If the alarm does not sound within 20 seconds, place the sensor pad aside.

Note: If one or both sensors pads are not working correctly stop using the device and contact your local distributor for further guidance.
