Before using the appliance and accessory parts for the first time, clean them thoroughly with lukewarm soapy water.

Heating the grill

  1. Remove the lava stones from the film and place them in the lava stone tray.
  2. Fold both grill elements downwards. The grill elements must lie flat.
  3. Place the wire rack on top and heat the grill for a few minutes at grill setting 12. This will get rid of the new-appliance smell and any contamination.

Operating the appliance

Switching on
The two grill elements can be controlled separately. This means that you can grill foods that require different temperatures at the same time. If required, you can connect the two grill elements together and set the same grill setting at the same time for both of them. Push in the control knob and turn it to the required grill setting. If you do not want to cook across the entire grill zone, switch on the front or rear grill element only The illuminated rings behind the control knobs flash while the appliance is heating up. Once the food reaches the selected grill setting, the illuminated rings light up. The preheating phase at grill setting 12 takes approximately 15 minutes.

Connecting the grill elements

  • Note: The two grill elements can be controlled at the same time using a control knob.
  •  Push in any control knob and turn it to the g position.
  •  Turn another control knob to the required grill setting. This grill set is applied for both grill elements. The illuminated rings behind the control knobs flash while the appliance is heating up. Once the food reaches the selected grill setting, the illuminated rings light up. The preheating phase at grill setting 12 takes approximately 15 minutes.
  •  Only put the food in the grill once it has finished preheating. To control individual grill elements again, turn the control knob from the g position to any of the grill settings.

Switching off
Turn the control knobs to 0. Warning – Risk of burns! When the appliance cover is closed, this leads to a build-up of heat. Only operate or switch on the appliance when the appliance cover is open. Do not use the appliance cover for keeping warm or setting down. Only close the appliance cover once the appliance has cooled down. Caution! Damage to the appliance   Remove spilled liquids before opening the appliance cover.

Residual heat indicator
The luminous discs behind the control knobs flash after switching off, to indicate that the appliance has still not cooled down to such an extent that it can be touched safely.

Overheating protection
To protect the appliance and the furniture, the grill switches the heating elements off automatically when overheated. After having cooled down, the appliance switches on again.

Using the cast iron roasting pan

The cast iron roasting pan is ideal for preparing finely chopped food, liquids, vegetables, desserts and eggbased dishes. The cast iron roasting pan is placed on the rear grill element once you have removed the wire rack from it. You can grill other food on the front wire rack at the same time. Additional cast iron roasting pans can be ordered as optional accessories from your specialist retailer. Note: Leave the lava stone tray and the lava stones in the grill, even when using the cast iron roasting pan.

  •  Remove the rear wire rack.
  •  Carefully place the cast iron roasting tray onto the rear grill element.
  •  Turn the control knob for the rear grill element to the required grill setting.

Tips for cooking and roasting

  •  The values given in the table of settings are only a guide; you may need more or less heat depending on the type and state of the food.
  •  Always preheat the grill until the heating signal goes out. The intense heat radiation enables a crust to form quickly and prevent meat juice from escaping.
  •  Before grilling, you can coat or marinate the food in heat-resistant oil (e.g. peanut oil). This improves the flavour. Take care not to use too much oil/marinade, otherwise this could cause flames to form or generate lots of smoke.
  •  Do not salt the meat before grilling. Otherwise soluble nutrients and meat juice may escape.
  •  Place the food you want to grill directly on the wire rack. Do not use aluminium foil or grill trays.
  •  Only turn the items on the grill over when they lift off the wire rack easily. If meat sticks to the grill, the fibres will be destroyed and meat juice will escape.
  •  Do not pierce the meat while grilling it, otherwise meat juice may escape.
  •  Cured meat such as ham and smoked pork chops are not suitable for grilling. This can produce a compound that is harmful to health.
  •  Score chops on the bones and in fatty layers several times so that they do not curl up.
  •  Remove fatty layers after grilling rather than before, otherwise the meat will lose juice and flavour.
  •  Poultry will turn out particularly crispy and brown if you baste it towards the end of the grilling time with butter, salted water or orange juice.
  •  Fruit can be seasoned to taste after grilling with honey, maple syrup or lemon juice.
  •  You can parboil vegetables that take a long time to cook (e.g. corn on the cob, potatoes) before placing them on the grill.
  •  Grill fillets of fish on the skin side first. Coat the skin with oil or dust with flour to prevent it from sticking to the wire rack. Fish with firm meat is particularly suitable for grilling on the wire rack (e.g. salmon, tuna, monkfish).
  •  Serve grilled food hot. Do not keep it warm, or it will go tough.
  •  The grilling surface is hotter in the centre than in the edge area. Particularly if you are grilling food with different cooking times and temperature requirements at the same time, you can arrange the food optimally on the grill surface. To do this, you can of course also use the two grill zones on different height levels. Rule of thumb: The thinner the grilled food, the higher the temperature and the shorter the cooking time
