Always plug your steam generator into:
- an electrical installation with voltage between 220V and 240V. Connecting to the wrong voltage may cause irreparable damage to the appliance and will invalidate your guarantee ;
- an earthed socket. If you are using a mains extension lead, ensure that it is correctly rated (10A) with an earth, and is fully extended. Completely unwind the power cord from its storage space before connecting to an earthed socket. When using the brush, fully extend the brush-unit.

never touch these parts. Never touch the electric cords with the soleplate of
the iron.
Your appliance gives off steam which can cause burns. Handle your iron
carefully, particularly when using the vertical steam function.
Never direct the steam towards persons or animals.
Before unscrewing the boiler rinse cap, wait until the generator is cold
(unplugged for more than 2 hours). Never fill the boiler through the rinse

What water may be used ?
Your iron has been designed to operate using untreated tap water. However, it is necessary to operate the Self-Clean function regularly in order to eliminate hard water deposits from the steam chamber.
If your water is very hard (check with your local water authority) it is possible to mix tap water with store-bought distilled or demineralised water in the following proportions : 50%untreated tap water with 50% distilled or demineralised water.
Types of water NOT to use :
Heat concentrates the elements contained in water during evaporation. The
types of water listed below may contain organic waste, mineral or chemical
elements that can cause spitting, brown staining or premature wear of the
appliance: water from clothes dryers, scented or softened water, water from
refrigerators, batteries, air conditioners, rain water, boiled, filtered or
bottled water. These types of water should NOT be used in your ROWENTA steam
generator. Also only use distilled or demineralised water as advised above.
IRONING BOARDS :
Due to the powerful steam output, a mesh type ironing board must be used to allow any excess steam to escape and to avoid steam venting sideways.
USE
Using your steam generator
Completely unwind the power cord from its storage space before connecting to
an earthed socket
Set the Ironing / Crease Removal selector to the desired position until there
is a “click” (fig.10). Press on the on / off switch (fig.11) : the green light
(located on the control panel) flashes and the boiler heats up. When the green
“steam ready” light stops flashing, the appliance is ready
The first time the appliance is used, there may be some fumes and smell but
this is not harmful. They will not affect use and will disappear rapidly.
When starting, and regularly while it is being used, your steam generator’s
electric pump injects water into the boiler. It makes a noise but this is
quite normal.
USE IN IRONING MODE
Steam ironing
Check that the selector is in the ironing position
CAUTION! In the intermediate position, the green indicator light flashes
rapidly : neither the iron nor the brush functions.
Place the iron’s temperature control (fig.13) to the type of fabric to be

Your iron heats up quickly : start with fabrics to be ironed at a low
temperature and finish with those which need higher temperatures.
If you lower the thermostat, wait until the iron thermostat light comes back
on again before starting ironing once more. Mixed fibre fabrics : set the
ironing temperature to the setting for the most delicate fabric. Woollen
garments : press repeatedly on the steam control button to obtain short bursts
of steam, without placing the iron on the garment itself. This will avoid
making the fabric shiny. Always spray starch onto the reverse side of the
fabric to be ironed.
When taking a break from ironing, always place the iron on the iron rest plate
of the unit. It is equipped with non-slip pads and has been designed to
withstand high temperatures.
Do not place the iron on a metal support.
Refilling the water tank

exceptional power of steam that may cause burns
Using damp steam

- for ironing thicker fabrics,
- to eliminate creases.
Using the burst of freshness function *
The burst of freshness function allows you to give long-lasting freshness to
your laundry.
IMPORTANT! Remove the needle and the red cover from the capsule before
inserting it into the iron. On first use, the fragrance may take a moment to
come through (approximately 10 seconds).

marks from handling on the ironing board) and to eliminate certain unpleasant
odours.
Put the Ironing / Crease Removal selector to the Crease Removal position

MAINTENANCE AND CLEANING
Before cleaning or emptying your generator, it is imperative that you turn it off, unplug it and leave it to cool for more than 2 hours, to prevent any risk of burns.
Cleaning the generator
The water tank : empty and rinse the removable water tank.
The soleplate : you can clean the soleplate of your iron, once it has cooled
down, with a damp cloth or sponge.
The base unit : clean the plastic parts occasionally with a soft dampened
cloth.
The brush : clean it from time to time with a soft cloth.
To remove the head of the brush : press
on one of the side buttons then gently pull the head away by rotating it
slightly.. Clean it gently with water. To re-fit the head, push it onto the
brush until you hear a “click”
New heads are commercially available under the reference: XD9000f0.
Rinsing the boiler
To extend the efficient operating life of your boiler and avoid scale
particles on your linen, your generator is equipped with an orange “boiler
rinse” warning light that flashes on the control panel (fig.25) after about 10
uses. You can continue ironing normally but remember to rinse the boiler
first, the next time that you use it. Empty the tank (fig.26). Place your
steam generator on the edge of your sink. Remove the brush support located at
the side of the appliance in a downwards direction (fig.23).
To return to ironing mode, set the Ironing / Crease Removal selector to the
Ironing position (see USE IN IRONING MODE).
(fig.27). Using a coin, gently unscrew the boiler rinse cap (fig.28). with the
rinsing accessory : use the accessory provided with the packaged product. It
will make it easier to rinse the boiler as the generator will need less
handling. Your rinsing accessory has been designed to work on a wide range of
taps. Choose the membrane (fig.29a or 29b) that is best suited to your tap.
Place the plastic nozzle of the rinsing pipe into the hole of the boiler and
turn gently to the right until it locks (fig.30).The outlet of this nozzle
must be positioned over the sink.
Attach the other end of the rinsing accessory to your tap (fig.31). Turn the
tap on gently and gradually and let cold water run through the rinsing pipe
into the sink for about 1 minute (fig.32). Switch off the tap and remove the
rinsing pipe.
or
without the rinsing accessory:
Holding your steam generator in a tilted position, and using a jug, fill
the boiler with 1/4 litre of tap water (fig.33). Shake the base unit for a few
moments and then empty it completely over your sink (fig.34).
Screw back and tighten up the boiler rinse cap with a coin. Put the brush
support firmly in place. On next use, press and hold down the Restart button
and the orange boiler emptying indicator light switches off (fig.35).
CAUTION! Above all, you must not use descaling products to rinse the
boiler : they may damage it.
