REMINGTON TL-265 International Converter and Adapter Kit

INTRODUCTION

This compact kit provides most all your foreign electrical traveling needs. This kit includes a high 50-1600 watt converter which changes 220/240 foreign voltage to domestic 110/120 voltage. This kit is primarily for use on most domestic appliances rated between 50-1600 watts, such as: hair dryers, irons, clothes steamers, coffee makers, etc. Additionally, five (5) adaptor plugs allow domestic appliances to fit virtually all foreign electrical outlets. These plugs are color coded with country map for easy use. A storage pouch is included for your traveling convenience. Your converter is equipped with a replaceable current fuse for extended product life.

Your 1600 watt converter may be used with European outlets, but in other countries you may need to use the proper adapter plug provided in this kit.

SAFETY WARNINGS

  1. Read and review instructions before using the adapter kit.
  2. This converter is not to be used with DC (direct current) electrical outlets.
  3. Never plug a converter directly into a 110V outlet. Always use on a 220V system.
  4. Do not leave converter or adapter unattended when in use. Unplug immediately after using.
  5. If your converter or adapter is not functioning properly, DO NOT USE. Call 1-800-736-4648 for assistance.
  6. When traveling, always follow the manufacturer’s instructions for proper usage of this electrical system.
  7. Check the product you intend to use for the manufacturer’s voltage and/or wattage rating, which should be located on the product before using the kit.
  8. Your 1600 watt converter has a replaceable fuse. Should your appliance have a built in thermostat, a premature shut off could occur due to unstable voltages in many foreign countries. This premature shut off does not signal a malfunction in either the appliance or converter.
  9. Keep converter away from heated/hot surfaces.
  10. Save these instructions.

DO NOT USE ANY APPLIANCE EQUIPPED WITH AN ALCI (GROUND FAULT INTERRUPTER) WITH THIS PRODUCT. HAIR DRYERS MANUFACTURED AFTER JAN. 1, 1992 MAY CONTAIN AN ALCI (GROUND FAULT INTERRUPTER) WHICH WOULD INCLUDE AN ELECTRONIC CIRCUIT AND COMPONENTS. DO NOT USE WITH THIS PRODUCT.

NOTE: NEVER USE THIS CONVERTER WITH PRODUCTS CONTAINING ELECTRONIC CIRCUITRY I.E. COMPUTERS, STEREOS, AND MANY DIGITAL PRODUCTS. CONSULT OWNER’S MANUAL OF THESE TYPE PRODUCTS. DO NOT PLUG A REMINGTON 220V CONVERTER DIRECTLY INTO A 110V DOMESTIC OUTLET.

DEFINITION OF ELECTRICAL TERMS

Voltage: Appliances sold in the USA are manufactured to operate on 110/120 voltage AC (alternating current) systems.

MOST foreign countries operate at a voltage of 220/240 AC. Therefore, if you were to use your domestic appliance normally operating on 110 voltage and plug it into a 220 voltage system it could operate twice as fast, exceeding designed demands and possibly causing the motor of the appliance to burn out. Appliances without motors would also be damaged. This kit will supply you with the means to convert the voltage back (or step down) to half or 110 voltage.

Only use this converter with appliances designed for AC operation. Do not use with DC (direct current) systems found on ships, planes, and in some foreign countries.

Dual Voltage/True Dual Voltage:
Since some appliances are now being offered with the dual voltage feature which allows you to use either 110V or 220V, you will not need to use a converter. However, after making sure your voltage switch is in the proper voltage mode (110V/220V), you may need to use an adapter plug. These adapter plugs will allow your domestic flat plug to fit most foreign outlets.

Appliances with true dual voltage will not require an international converter, since appliance can automatically switch from one voltage to another to compensate the power flow. (Some true Dual Voltage products may have a manual switch.) However, you may also need to use an adapter plug to change your domestic flat plug to fit the foreign outlet with these products.

Wattage:

Wattage designates the amount of power an appliance will draw. Different types of appliances will draw between 50-1600 watts. Low wattage items such as razors, radios, etc. will draw less than 50 watts, (this 1600 watt converter should not be used with low wattage products) while heavy duty or motor appliances like hair dryers and irons, etc. may draw up from 50-1600 watts.

Converter:
This international converter is made to be used with appliances of 50-1600 watts. The converter should be connected to the appliance plug which should then be connected to the proper adapter plug to fit the foreign outlet. (Refer to country illustration). Plug the adapter into the wall outlet first and install appliance plug into your converter. Do not use this converter in 110V system outlet or with a dual voltage product (while in the 110V mode). Since some appliances operate on a 60 or 50 cycle basis, speed of operation when using a converter could be adversely affected. Therefore, it is not recommended you use this converter with clocks.

Adaptor Plugs:
Adaptor Plugs are used to convert dual voltage products to fit various wall outlets. Adapter plugs are used when converting (using a converter) 220V into 110V from a foreign outlet and/or need to plug in a dual voltage appliance into a foreign outlet. The USA outlets usually require a flat prong plug, but the adapter can be used to have USA appliance conform to the foreign outlet configuration.

WARNING! ADAPTER PLUGS DO NOT CONVERT ELECTRICITY!

How to use a converter with a 220V system

First, determine whether your appliance is dual voltage. If not:
And your appliance is rated 110V or 120V, with wattage between 50-1600 watts, then use of Remington’s 1600 watt converter is necessary if you are using a 220V system.

NOTE: DO NOT USE THIS CONVERTER WITH APPLIANCES CONTAINING ELECTRONIC CIRCUITRY – FOR EXAMPLE, COMPUTERS, STEREOS, AND MANY DIGITAL PRODUCTS. IF UNSURE, CONSULT OWNER’S MANUAL.

  1. If in Europe, simply connect plug converter into wall outlet since this converter’s plugs fits more European outlets. Then, plug in appliance to converter.
  2. If plugs do not fit, connect appropriate adapter plug to wall outlet first; second, connect appliance to converter; finally, connect converter with product attached to adapter (previously plugged into wall outlet).

If appliance is dual voltage:
And you’re using a 220 system, slide your appliance’s dual voltage switch to the 220/240 setting.

Determine whether your appliance plugs fit the wall outlet. If not, refer to country illustration. Select appropriate adapter plug and connect adapter plug to appliance plug. Then insert into wall outlet. If appliance plugs fit outlet, simply plug/insert into wall outlet for operation.

NOTE: SOME HOTELS IN 220V SYSTEM COUNTRIES HAVE 110V OUTLETS – BE CERTAIN TO CHECK WALL OUTLET SYSTEM PRIOR TO INSERTING CONVERTER.
