  1. Turn off the water feeding the filtration system, by closing the ball valve located on the waterline, or by closing the angle-stop feed water valve clockwise. If present, the angle stop will be located on the wall under the kitchen sink in close proximity to the filtration system. Close the valve connected to your refrigerator (if present).

  2. For RO systems—close the reserve tank valve located on top of the reserve tank. When closed the blue handle will be perpendicular to the waterline.

  3. Depressurize the system. Flip up the handle on the RO sink spigot so that it locks into place, and dispenses water until it no longer flows. See Figure 4. If you have successfully shut off the water this should occur within a few seconds. If water still continues to flow, repeat steps 1 & 2. Leave to RO sink spigot handle in the open position.

  4. Unscrew filter housing.
NOTE: When opening the filter housing to change the cartridge, it is common for the 0-ring/gasket to lift out of the housing and stick to the cap.

  5. Remove the used cartridge and discard. Rinse out housing and fill about 1/3 full with water. Add about 2 to 3 tablespoons of bleach and scrub thoroughly with a brush or sponge. Rinse thoroughly. Allow to air dry. 5. Remove the O-ring/gasket from the sump and wipe the groove and O-ring/gasket clean. Lubricate the O-ring/gasket with a  coating of clean silicone grease. DO NOT use Vaseline or petroleum-based lubricant. Place O-ring/gasket back in place and press O-ring down into the groove with two fingers (or place gasket on the rim of sump).
NOTE: This step is important to ensure a proper filter seal. Make sure the O-ring is seated level in the groove (or the gasket is on the rim of the sump). If the O-ring/gasket appears damaged or crimped it should be replaced at this time.

  6. Insert a new cartridge into the sump making sure that it slips down over the sump standpipe.

  7. Screw the sump onto the cap and tighten it with a housing wrench. Make sure the cartridge slips over the cap standpipe.

  8. Disconnect inline polishing final filter (if present)  from the system and remove fittings. Make note of water flow directional arrows. Reuse fittings on replacement filter, and reconnect. Do not over tighten. Be sure to use Teflon tape on all metal threaded fittings.

  9. Remount the filtration system, and SLOWLY open the main water line. Then open the tank valve slowly. Failure to repressurize slowly may result in system damage. Water should now be flowing from the RO sink spigot. Initial discharge may be accompanied by a harmless discoloration due to loose carbon. Close the RO sink spigot, and allow 3 hours for the reserve tank to refill. A second tank flushing may be necessary depending on the initial tank fill level.
    9. Check for leaks, then recheck in 24 hours.

NOTE: This replacement cartridge has a limited service life.
Changes in taste, color, and flow of the water being filtered are signals that replacement of the cartridge may be necessary.
CAUTION: The filter must be protected against freezing.  Failure to do so may result in cracking of the filter and water leakage.
WARNING: Do not use water that is microbiologically unsafe or of unknown quality without adequate disinfection before or after the unit.
I MPORTANT NOTICE : To prevent costly repairs or possible water damage we strongly recommend that the bowl and sump of all plastic housings be replaced every ten years.  If your sump has been in use for more than the recommended period, it should be replaced immediately. Be sure to date any new or replacement sump for future reference and indicate the next recommended replacement date.
