Intended Use

Your BLACK+DECKER vacuum has been designed for vacuuming everyday dry messes. This appliance is intended for household use only.

  12. Use extra care when cleaning on stairs.

  13. Do not use to pick up flammable or combustible liquids,such as gasoline, or use in areas where they may be present.

  14. Do not pick up anything that is burning or smoking, such as cigarettes, matches, or hot ashes.

  15. Do not use without dust bag and/or filters in place.

  16. Do not charge the unit outdoors.

  17. Use only the charger supplied by the manufacturer to recharge.

  18. Do not incinerate the appliance even if it is severely damaged. The batteries can explode in a fire.

  19. This appliance is intended for household use only and not for commercial or industrial use.The unit should be placed or mounted away from sinks and hot surfaces.

  20. Plug the charger directly into an electrical outlet.

  21. Use the charger only in a standard electrical outlet (120V/60Hz).

  22. Unplug the charger from the outlet before any routine cleaning or maintenance.

  23. Do not look into the air vents when the unit is switched on, as sometimes there is a possibility of small debris being discharged from the air vents, especially after cleaning / replacement of the filters as debris inside the unit can be disturbed.

  24. Leaks from battery cells can occur under extreme conditions. If the liquid, which is a 20‑35% solution of potassium hydroxide, gets on the skin (1) wash quickly with soap and water or (2) neutralize with a mild acid such as lemon juice or vinegar. If the liquid gets into the eyes, flush them immediately with clean water for a minimum of 10 minutes. Seek medical attention.

Additional Safety Warnings

  1. Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off‑position before picking up or carrying the appliance. Carrying the appliance with your finger on the switch or energizing appliance that have the switch on invites accidents.

  8. Do not modify or attempt to repair the appliance or the battery pack except as indicated in the instructions for use and care.

  • Use clamps or other practical ways to secure and support the workpiece to a stable platform. Holding the work by hand or against your body is unstable and may lead to loss of control and injury.

  • Air vents often cover moving parts and should be avoided. Loose clothes, jewelry or long hair can be caught in moving parts.

BATTERY AND CHARGER

The battery is not fully charged out of the carton. Before using the charger to charge the battery, read the safety instructions below and then follow charging procedures outlined. Only for use with S003AQU1500015 chargers.

Important Safety Instructions for All Integral Battery Tools

WARNING: Read all safety warnings, instructions, and cautionary markings for the battery, charger and product. Failure to follow the warnings and instructions may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury.

  • NEVER force a charger plug into the tool.
  • DO NOT modify the charger plug of a non‑compatible charger in any way to fit into the tool as the battery may rupture causing serious personal injury.
  • DO NOT charge or use the battery in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust. Inserting or removing the charger plug from the tool may ignite the dust or fumes.
  • Only charge the battery with the provided charger.
  • DO NOT splash or immerse in water or other liquids.
  • DO NOT allow water or any liquid to enter tool.
  • DO NOT store or use the tool in locations where the temperature may reach or exceed 104 °F (40 °C) (such as outside sheds or metal buildings in summer). For best life store tools in a cool, dry location.
  • NOTE: Do not store the tool with the switch locked on. Never tape the switch in the ON position.
  • DO NOT incinerate the tool even if it is severely damaged or is completely worn out. The battery can explode in a fire. Toxic fumes and materials are created when lithium‑ion batteries are burned.
  •  If battery contents come into contact with the skin, immediately wash area with mild soap and water. If battery liquid gets into the eye, rinse water over the open eye for 15 minutes or until irritation ceases. If medical attention
  • is needed, the battery electrolyte is composed of a mixture of liquid organic carbonates and lithium salts.
  • Contents of opened battery cells may cause respiratory irritation. Provide fresh air. If symptoms persist, seek medical attention.
  • Battery liquid may be flammable if exposed to spark or flame.
  • Never attempt to open the tool for any reason. If the tool case is cracked or damaged, do not charge. Do not crush, drop or damage the tool. Do not use a tool or charger that has received a sharp blow, been dropped, run over or damaged in any way (e.g., pierced with a nail, hit with a hammer, stepped on). Damaged tools should be returned to the service center for recycling.

Storage Recommendations
The best storage place is one that is cool and dry, away from direct sunlight and excess heat or cold. Store the fully charged tool disconnected from the charger.
Transportation
NOTE: Integral Li-ion tools should not be put in checked baggage on airplanes and must be properly protected from short circuits if they are in carry-on baggage.
Tool Disposal
This product uses a lithium-ion rechargeable and recyclable battery. When the battery no longer holds a charge, the tool should be recycled. The tool should not be incinerated or placed in the trash. The tool can be taken for disposal to an Authorized Service Center. Some local retailers are also participating in a national recycling program (refer to RBRC®). Call your local retailer for details. If you bring the tool to an Authorized Service Center, the Center will arrange to recycle the tool and its battery. Or, contact your local municipality for proper disposal instructions in your city/town.
Charging the Battery (Fig. B, C)
WARNING: For use only with the supplied charger.
WARNING: Do not charge the battery at ambient temperatures below 39 °F (4 °C) or above 104 °F (40 °C).
From new, the rechargeable cells of the product need a minimum charge time of 10 hours for HLVC315J and 13 hours for HLVC320J to ensure full power.

  1. The switch must be in the OFF position, the appliance will not charge if it is in any other position.
  2. Fig. B – Plug the jack plug  16  of the charger into the charging socket  3  of the tool.
  3. Plug the charger 15 into any standard 120 Volt 60 Hz electrical outlet.
  4. The charge indicator LED  13  on the center of the main housing  4  will illuminate while charging.
  5. The charge indicator LED  13  will turn off upon completion of charging.

NOTE: While charging, the charger may get warm, this is perfectly normal and safe. It is safe to leave the appliance connected to the charger indefinitely. The charger automatically reduces power consumption when charging is complete.

  2. Fig C – Place the charging station 14 on a flat, stable surface near a 120 Volt 60 Hz electrical outlet.

  3. Place the appliance onto the charging station 14 as shown in Fig. C.
    NOTE: The appliance can then be stored on the charging station  14 when not in use.

  4. Plug the charger 15 into any standard 120 Volt 60 Hz electrical outlet.

  5. The charge indicator LED  13  on the center of the main housing  4  will illuminate while charging.

  6. The charge indicator LED  13  will turn off upon completion of charging.

NOTE: While charging, the charger may get warm, this is perfectly normal and safe. It is safe to leave the appliance connected to the charger indefinitely. The charger automatically reduces power consumption when charging is complete.

ASSEMBLY AND ADJUSTMENTS

WARNING: To reduce the risk of serious personal injury, turn unit off and lock off the tool before making any adjustments or removing/installing attachments or accessories. An accidental start‑up can cause injury.

  1. Align the top of the extension tube  7  with the vacuum inlet  ?  as shown in Fig. D.
  2. Push the extension tube  7  onto the vacuum inlet  ?  so it locks into position.
  3. Align the bottom of the extension tube  7  with the floor brush  ?  as shown in Fig. D.
  4. Push the bottom of the extension tube  7  onto the floor brush  ?  so it locks into position.
  5. To remove an accessory, press the accessory release latch  ?  located on the vacuum inlet or the bottom of the extension tube and gently pull the connected accessory off.

WARNING: When not in use position the unit with the rear of the vacuum facing a wall so that any inadvertent fall of the unit would contact a wall and not people or pets.

OPERATION (FIG. A)

WARNING: To reduce the risk of serious personal injury, turn unit OFF before making any adjustments or removing/installing attachments or accessories. An accidental start‑up can cause injury.

Switching ON and OFF Fig. D

  1. To turn the vac on, slide the ON/OFF switch  1  forward to the “I” position.
  2. To turn the vac off, slide the ON/OFF switch  1  backward to the “O” position.
  3. Return the product to the charger immediately after use so that it will be ready and fully charged for the next use. Ensure that the product is fully engaged with the charger plug.

Extendable Suction Tool (Fig. A, E)BLACK-DECKER-HLVC315B-Slim-Cordless-
Handheld-Vacuum-5 An extendable suction tool  7  is built into the nozzle  6.

  1. Pull the extendable suction tool  7  outward until it locks into position.
  2. The extendable suction tool can be opened by folding the sides outward. There are multiple angles of operation as shown.
  3. To store the extendable suction tool into the nozzle fold the sides inward together as shown and press the stopping rib  21 .
  4. Push the extendable suction tool into the nozzle until it locks into position.

NOTE: If the extendable suction tool pulls completly out from the dust bowl it can be pressed back in and will lock into position.

Accessory Tools (Fig. F)BLACK-DECKER-HLVC315B-Slim-Cordless-Handheld-
Vacuum-6 This vacuum comes with two accessory tools.

  • Brush 8 .
  • Crevice tool 9 .
  • Either accessory tool can be fitted directly to the nozzle 6  as shown in Fig. F.

An accidental start‑up can cause injury.Your BLACK+DECKER power tool has been designed to operate over a long period of time with a minimum of maintenance. Continuous satisfactory operation depends upon proper tool care and regular cleaning.

Cleaning

WARNING: Blow dirt and dust out of all air vents with clean, dry air at least once a week. To minimize the risk of eye injury, always wear ANSI Z87.1 approved eye protection when performing this procedure.
WARNING: Never use solvents or other harsh chemicals for cleaning the non‑metallic parts of the tool. These chemicals may weaken the plastic materials used in these parts. Use a cloth dampened only with water and mild soap. Never let any liquid get inside the tool; never immerse any part of the tool into a liquid.

Dust Bowl (Fig. G)BLACK-DECKER-HLVC315B-Slim-Cordless-Handheld-
Vacuum-7 WARNING: Never use this cordless hand vacuum without its filters.
IMPORTANT: Maximum dust collection will only be obtained with clean filters and an empty dust bowl. If dust begins to fall back out of the product after it is switched off, this indicates that the dust bowl is full and requires emptying
To Empty the Dust Bowl (Fig. G)

  1. 1. Place the dust bowl over a trash bin and remove the dust bowl  5  from the main housing  4  by twisting the dust bowl  5  counterclockwise and pulling the dust bowl away from the main housing.
    2. Remove the filter assembly  10  by pulling it out of the dust bowl 5 .
    3. Shake or lightly brush any dust from the filter assembly.
    4. Empty the dust from the dust bowl  5  into a trash bin and wash if necessary. Ensure that the dust bowl is completely dry before using.
    5. Place filter assembly into position in the dust bowl.
    6. Install the dust bowl  5  onto the main housing  4 , ensuring the dust bowl tabs  18  aligns with the main housing slots  17  as shown in Fig. G and rotate the dust bowl clockwise to lock it firmly into position.

Cleaning the Filters (Fig. G)
Removing Pre-filter

  1. Place the dust bowl over a trash bin and remove the dust bowl  5  from the main housing  4  by twisting the dust bowl  5  counterclockwise and pulling the dust bowl away from the main housing.
  2. Remove the filter assembly  10  by pulling it out of the dust bowl.
  3. Twist counterclockwise and pull the pre-filter  11  to seperate it from the filter  12 .
  4. Remove the pre-filter and shake or lightly brush any dust from the filter and pre-filter.
  5. Empty any dust from the dust bowl  5  into a trash bin and wash if necessary. Ensure that the dust bowl is completely dry before using. Wash the pre-filter  11  and filter  12  regularly using warm, soapy water. Ensure that both are completely dry for 12 hours before using.
  6. Install the pre-filter onto the filter, ensuring the filter tabs  20  aligns with the pre-filter slots  19  and rotate the pre-filter clockwise to lock it firmly into position.
  7. Install the filter assembly into the dust bowl.
  8. Install the dust bowl onto the main housing, ensuring the dust bowl tabs  18  aligns with the main housing slots  17  as shown in Fig. G and rotate the dust bowl clockwise to lock it firmly into position.

Cleaning the Filter

  1. Once the filter and pre-filter are removed from the dust bowl shake off or lightly brush any dust from the pre-filter  11  and filter  12 .
  2. Rinse out the dust bowl with warm soapy water.
  3. Wash the filters regularly using warm, soapy water and ensure that it is completely dry before using again. The cleaner the filter is, the better the product will perform.
  4. It is very important that the filters are completely dry and correctly in position before use.
  5. Ensure the filters are completely dry for 12 hours before refitting.
  6. Follow instructions in the Removing pre‑filter section for assembly instructions.

Replacing the Filters
The filters should be replaced every 6 to 9 months and whenever worn or damaged. Replacement filters are available from your BLACK+DECKER dealer. Visit www.blackanddecker.com to locate dealers.

  1. Remove the old filters as described in Cleaning the Filters.
  2. Fit the new filters as described in Cleaning the Filters.
  3. Only use BLACK+DECKER replacement filter: HLVCF10

WARNING: Since accessories, other than those offered by BLACK+DECKER, have not been tested with this product, use of such accessories with this tool could be hazardous. To reduce the risk of injury, only BLACK+DECKER recommended accessories should be used with this product.
