Introduction

When Cambridge Soundworks’ initial no-frills “value” Bluetooth speakers first hit Amazon, Oontz was there. The Oontz Angle 3 Plus is the brand’s fourth generation, and it continues the company’s heritage of superb sound for a low price. In reality, the sound quality is excellent for the price. The speaker, which can be positioned vertically or horizontally, won’t win any design prizes, but it is functionally appealing. More importantly, it is available on Amazon for just. What’s amazing is that, despite its small size, it manages to play rather loudly with great clarity and strong bass performance. In terms of sound, it’s on par with speakers.

The OontZ Angle 3 will automatically try to connect to the last audio source device it was connected to each time it is turned on and that audio source device is within range.

The OontZ Angle 3 can be connected to one audio source device at a time. To pair and connect to a different audio source device, you need to first disconnect the currently paired audio source device. From Your Apple Mac or Windows 10 Laptop/Computer
For the pairing and connecting Guide for your Apple Mac or Windows 10 laptop/computer, please visit: TheOontZ.com/pairing

Windows 7 or 8 laptops/computers may have difficulty pairing and connect over Bluetooth. If this occurs it is recommended to connect and play using the 3.5mm audio cable. Please go to page 11: ‘Playing From Your Windows 7 or 8 Laptop/Computer and Non-Bluetooth Audio Devices Using the 3.5mm Audio Cable’.

Pair & Connect — Step 2

From Your Amazon Echo Dot

  1. Turn on your OontZ Angle 3 first and make sure it is in pairing mode (refer to Page 7)
  2. To pair and connect your OontZ Angle 3 the first time from the Amazon Echo Dot you need to use the Alexa app on your iPhone, iPad, Smartphone, or Tablet.
  3. First, make sure to disconnect any other Bluetooth device from the Amazon Echo Dot.
  4. The Amazon Echo Dot can only connect to one Bluetooth device at a time.
  • Open the Alexa app
  • Go to the ‘Home’ menu by pressing the 3 horizontal lines in the upper left corner next to ‘Home’
  • Press ‘Settings’
  • Select your Amazon Echo Dot under ‘Devices’ by pressing it
  • Press ‘Bluetooth’
  • Press ‘Pair a New Device’. In a few seconds, the ‘OontZ Angle’ will appear in the list of ‘Available Speakers’

  • The audio from the Amazon Echo Dot will now play through the OontZ Angle 3

From Your Amazon Echo Dot (continued)

Now that the Amazon Echo Dot is paired to the OontZ Angle 3, if the speaker becomes disconnected or turned off, to re-connect turn on the OontZ Angle 3 and just say “Alexa, connect my speaker ” or “Alexa, pair”

Important Note
When the OontZ Angle 3 is playing from battery power and connected to the Amazon Echo Dot, the Amazon Echo Dot disables the power saving feature on the OontZ Angle 3 speaker. The speaker will remain on and it will not automatically turn off after 15 minutes of not playing audio. The Amazon Echo Dot is continuing to communicate to the speaker even when not playing audio and will use up the battery charge, at the same rate as full volume audio.

We recommend either: 1) Keeping the OontZ Angle 3 plugged into a USB wall charger or USB port on a laptop/computer, so it can remain on and available to play from the Amazon Echo Dot, without having the battery becoming drained. Or, 2) Turning the OontZ Angle 3 off when you are done listening. You can turn the OontZ Angle 3 speaker off by pressing and releasing the Power button on the OontZ Angle 3, or you can say “Alexa, disconnect my speaker” and the OontZ Angle 3 will automatically turn off after 15 minutes. When you want to play to the speaker again turn on the OontZ Angle 3 and say “Alexa, connect my speaker ” or “Alexa, pair” and the Amazon Echo Dot will connect and the audio will play through the OontZ Angle 3.

If you need assistance with your Alexa app, contact Amazon’s support through the app. Open the Alexa app and select Help & Feedback > Email Customer Service

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How long does the charge last?
The manufacturer (Cambridge) rates the Angle 3 at 7 hours compared to 15-20 hours for the Angle 2 and a mere 5 hours for the OontZ Curve. Having owned all three, I can’t dispute those figures. I’m unhappy with Cambridge’s sudden decision (after a mere 2-3 months) to replace the Angle 2 with the Angle 3. They’re sufficiently unlike one another to be concurrently carried rather than obsolesced. The 2 is the larger speaker (actually bigger than the UE Mini Boom) with the extra size accounting for the extra-long life of the battery. The 3 is slightly lighter and more compact, bringing it closer–in size and battery life–to the company’s exceedingly popular OontZ Curve. The 3 also has a tighter seal for greater resistance to water. But all 3 speakers sound like slightly above-average $30 speakers to the trained ear. If you listen to instrumental music (jazz, classical) and not simply “pop vocals”, I’d strongly recommend investing in the higher-quality Oontz Angle speaker (at 3-4 times the cost) unless you can afford the rightly acclaimed Bose Mini Bluetooth (6-7 X the cost). In the $25-30 price range, I prefer the Oontz Curve for its visible, user-friendly controls. Neither the Angle 2 or 3 sounds any better in processing bass frequencies in a richly textured environment (horns, piano, drums and bass–which goes largely unheard in any of these 3 speakers). P.S. I notice that sellers are trying to get $10 for the now discontinued Angle 2 speakers. At that price, I can live with 1/3rd of the battery life (water- proofing is a non-factor since I take my rubber ducky with me during bath times)

  • Does it have a skip forward/ skip backward option?
This is a Bluetooth speaker. You will use your player device to skip forward/back, change playlist, etc. much easier to do this on your player device than fumbling around w/ a spkr. The Gantz does not have a radio.

  • If the music source is Bluetooth 4.0, what am I losing with this speaker being 3.0?
Most likely not much as the speakers themselves are nowhere close to “high fidelity”. That said, from what I’ve read, the main difference between 3.0 and 4.0 is that 4.0 power consumption is much lower.

  • Can you leave it plugged in, I just needed it for my PC?
Can this speaker be used with a cell phone with the speaker plugged all the time?

  • Is this connected with MacBook pro?
I just got mine, and it paired up immediately with my MacBook Pro. It ran on battery power, but I plugged it into a wall outlet with the USB charging cable and a wall plug adaptor.
