CJC OFF ROAD Built 4th Gen Skid Plate
INCLUDED HARDWARE:
Make sure
all hardware is included with your bumper before installing.
Front Valence Removal
- Remove plastic valance, starting with the push pins at the center of the valance.
- You will likely want a trim tool remover for these, but can get by with a needle nose or flat head screw driver.
- There are pins on the outside of the bumper, and 3 on each wing that can be accessed from the inside of the bumper like shown.
- Remove all pins.
- Remove the 10mm bolt at each outer edge of the valance.
- Carefully lower and remove the valance from the truck.
Installation instructions
- Remove the nut off of the captive bolt on the bracket forward and to the outer sides of where the frame horn mounts to the bumper.
- Set the nut aside as it will be re-used shortly.
- Use a 24mm socket to undo the four compatibility bracket bolts, set the hardware aside for re-use.
- The steel brackets themselves will not be re-used.
- Re-use the hardware to install both of the new, provided brackets, with the bracket oriented like shown in the photos.
- Make sure to leave hardware loose so brackets can be positioned easily.
- Install front bracket onto skid plate in the orientation shown, and snug them down with allowance for play. Do not tighten fully.
- Repeat on both sides of the skid plate, with washers on either side of the bolt head and nut.
- Lift the skid plate up to the truck, and thread in the bolt on the frame mount compatibility brackets first. Make sure there is a washer under the bolt head.
- You will use the supplied lock nut with teeth on the mating surface on the inside of the brackets so it will hold itself in place. Do not fully tighten.
- Access is tight, but we found it easiest to reach around from the side or front to hold the nut in place while tightening the skid plate onto the frame bracket.
- Next, mount the front bracket to the bumper brackets by re-using the nut that was removed earlier, and mounting the bracket to the factory captive bolt.
- Again, leave this nut loose for the time being.
- Stand back from the truck, and make notes of how to position the guard for a snug fit.
- All brackets have ample play to allow for a perfect, flush fit with the bumper with proper care. Be careful to not have the guard contact a painted bumper.
- Tighten all hardware once fit is perfect.
