RODRUM VarioClean:

Wear suitable safety shoes when carrying out the cleaning work (insulation).
Always ensure that the pipe cleaning machine is switched to “0” or OFF before you insert the plug in an electrical socket.
To prevent damage, use this machine and its accessories only to clean waste water pipes — never chimneys, wells, etc.
To prevent damage to the pipes or pipe bends, do not modify tools by grinding, etc.
Use a camera system to spot the cause of the pipe blockage.
Only use electric lines that have been correctly installed as per the “VDE regulations“.
The spirals must never run over the guide tube!
Mechanical pipe cleaning should always be undertaken from above in the direction of the stop plug.
Ensure that no water taps leading to the pipe to be processed are actuated during the pipe cleaning. Congestion can occur here!
Never leave the machine unattended during pipe cleaning!

Protective covers: All of the rotating parts are made safe through the use of protective covers. Removing and/or operating without these protective covers is strictly forbidden!

Secure the working site (the road, the shaft) so that no non-involved people will suffer injuries and always cover up open shafts or gullies.

Use a gas detector to detect the presence of toxic or explosive gases in the area that you will be working in!

The machine and the accessories should be cleaned and disinfected after every use.

The recommended personal protective equipment should be worn for all work: Safety helmet, safety shoes, safety vest!
Your hands should be cleaned and disinfected after every activity; as there is increased risk of infection from germs!

Only wear gloves recommended by the manufacturer when handling the rotating spiral.
Latex or loose-fitting gloves or cloths can become wrapped around the spiral and this might cause serious injuries.

Do not allow the cutter to jam whilst the spiral is still rotating. This might overload the spiral and cause it to twist, kink or break, resulting in serious injuries.

One person must operate both the spiral and the switch. If the cutter becomes jammed, the operator must be able to switch off the power tool in order to prevent the spiral from twisting, kinking or breaking.

Wear latex or rubber gloves inside the manufacturer’s recommended gloves, as well as eye protection, face protection, protective clothing and respiratory protection if you suspect that their might be bacteria, chemicals or other toxic or infectious substances in the drainpipe. Drains can contain bacteria, chemicals and other substances that are corrosive, infectious or toxic and they might cause serious injuries.

Take hygienic precautions. Do not eat or smoke when handling or operating the power tool. Always wash your hands and other body parts that were exposed to the drain contents with hot soapy water after using the drain cleaning equipment. This measure helps to reduce health risks that might arise from being in contact with toxic or infectious materials.

The drain cleaner is only to be used in the permitted drain cleaner sizes. Using the wrong size drain cleaner might cause the spiral to twist, kink or break, resulting in serious injuries.

Commissioning

The pipe cleaning machine should solely be operated by instructed and authorized personnel!

  • Check the electrical installation at the work place!
  • Connect up the foot switch and position it so that it can be easily reached and that all of the controls are easy to operate.
  • Slide the battery into the housing and check that it is securely seated.

Operation

The pipe cleaning machine is only to be used after taking into account all of the notices concerning safety of people and the machine!
Moving the spiral into the pipe:

  • Place the machine at a distance of about 1 m to the opening of the pipe that has to be cleaned.
  • Slide the guide tube over the spiral and up to the stop on the feed unit and then use the catch to lock it in place.
  • Attach a suitable tool at the front. Select the tool according to the type of dirt to be removed.
Ensure that it is seated correctly, i.e. the pin must sit in the hole in the tool!

Put on gloves and safety goggles before handling anything else!
Attention! Only use correct spirals!

  • Hold the guide tube with the spiral in your hand and then use the foot switch to switch the machine on (see Section 5.3).
  • Switch the rotational direction to clockwise and then use the foot switch to start the machine (within 10 seconds).
  • Use the +/- buttons to set the speed level. Select the speed level according to the working process (unblocking, cleaning, spin-cleaning). The LEDs will light up according to your selection.
  • Press the clamping lever to linearly control the spiral feed (forward, neutral and reverse).

**** The LEDs in the frame will start to flash if the battery charge level is too low (see Troubleshooting).

Clearing a blocked pipe

**** The spiral should bore its way into the blockage material; it should not be pressed in.

  • Immediately release the clamping lever if you feel a counter-pressure, i.e. if the spiral hits a blockage and counter-pressure is created in the machine. There is a risk of the spiral becoming knotted and deformed. Then you will no longer be able to use the spiral!
  • If the spiral has penetrated into the pipe so that the working arc is de tensioned, reset the hand lever to feed again.
  • Repeat these processes until the blockage has been removed.

**** If the loads on the spiral increase (the guide tube will start to bulge), let go of the clamping lever immediately to release the pressure on the spiral!

Pull the spiral back out of the pipe

ATTENTION! Only speed level 1 is to be used when pulling the spiral back out!

  • After you have successfully removed the blockage, you should set the clamping lever to return travel so that you can pull the spiral back into the drum.

**** Ensure that the spiral comes back without any great effort. If the return movement is difficult, run the spiral a short distance back into the pipe. Do not pull the spiral back by force.

  • Place a water hose at the mouth of the pipe and rinse off the dirty spiral with water whilst the spiral is coming out of the pipe. This will also rinse out the cleaned pipe.
  • When the attached tool can be seen again, you should release the clamping lever, use the foot switch to switch off the motor and then remove the tool and the guide tube.
  • Switch on the motor back on again and move the spiral back until it only protrudes out of the feed unit for about 20 cm.

**** The spiral should never be fully moved into the drum!
The rotational direction (counter-clockwise) is only to be changed for a short time in order to release a blocked tool.

Shut-down

  • Switch off the machine by releasing the foot switch, wait until the drum stops and then remove the battery.
  • Remove the guide tube from the device.
  • Empty the water out of the spiral drum by removing the drum from the machine and then remove the drainage stop plug.
  • Insert the drainage stop plug again and reattach the spiral drums.

Changing the spiral drum (D)

**** Only change the spiral drum when the device is completely de-energized!

  • Release the clamping grip and then push the feed unit forward and up to the stop.
  • Pull the spiral drum to the front in the axial direction and remove it.
  • Slide the new spiral in through the feed unit and then slide the spiral drum in the axial direction and onto the axis in the frame.
  • Push the feed unit back again and then use the clamping grip to fix it in place.

**** Ensure that all of the parts are free of dirt and are adequately greased!
