3.1 Inserting / changing the batteries

  • Remove the battery compartment cover on the back.
  • Remove the flat battery if necessary and replace it with a new 9V block battery, observing the correct polarity.
  • Close the battery compartment again. Your test device is now ready for use.

3.2 Preparation
Warning

  • Do not connect any live cables to the tester.
  • Ensure that all screw and crimp connections on the cables to be tested have been carried out carefully. Modular plugs that are not fully crimped can lead to damage to the tester.

Testing 6p6c/RJ12 and 6p4c/RJ11 cables:
Connect one end of the cable to the 6p6c socket on the network tester (1) and the other to the 6p6c socket on the remote unit (1).
Testing 8p8c/RJ45 cables: Connect one end of the cable to the 8p8c socket on the network cable tester (2) and the other to the 8p8c socket on the remote unit (2).
3.3. Testing and evaluation

  • Move the slider switch (A) to the “ON” position for normal testing speed.

  • Move the slider switch (A) to the “S” position for slow testing speed.

  • If the cables are connected correctly, the LEDs (B) 1-8 (or 1-6) both on the network cable tester and the remote unit will light up in a numerical sequence.

  • If the cables and plug shieldings are present and correctly connected, the LED “G” (C ) will also light up once the 1-8 (or 1-6) sequence has been completed.

  • If one or more cables are interrupted, the corresponding LEDs on the network cable tester and remote unit will not light up.

  • If fewer than two cables are connected correctly, all LEDs will remain dark.

  • If two or more wires are mixed up, the LEDs on the remote unit will light up in a backward, non-numerical sequence. The LEDs on the network cable tester light up
    in the normal, numerical sequence.

  • If there is a short circuit of up to two wires, the LEDs that are assigned to the shortcircuited wires will not light up.

  • If three or more wires are short-circuited, all LEDs will remain dark.

  • To test installed sockets or patch panels, short network cables (not supplied) can be used to connect the sockets to the sockets on the network cable tester or remote unit.

  • The remote unit is detachable so that cable connections between different rooms can also be tested (Graphic B).
