Safety instructions
- Read all instructions and warnings prior to using this product. Improper use of this product may result in product damage, for which damages users are esponsible.
- For your safety, please note and follow all other applicable safety instructions. Legal regulations must always be complied with. Media content must not be played back within the driver’s field of vision. Please note and obey the statutory requirements and regulations which apply in your country.
- Do not store the device in a high-temperature environment, do not expose the device to direct sunlight.
- Do not throw the BT SIM Reader into the fire.
- Do not splash the product with or immerse the product in water.
- Do not modify this device in any manner.
WARNING
Be cautious of drops, bumps, and abrasions to this device. If there is any
damage to the device such as dents, punctures, or deformities for any reason,
discontinue use. Contact the manufacturer or dispose of it in an appropriate
manner at your local recycling center.
General information
- Before using your BT SIM Reader for the first time, read all instructions and warnings. They contain important safety, usage, and disposal information.
- Only use the product as described and for the purposes specified.
- If you pass on the product, give all the documentation to the new owner.
- BMW recommends that you only use parts and accessory products that have been tested and approved by BMW in terms of their safety, function, and suitability.
- Should you have any questions during operation, please call the BMW dealership from which you purchased this product. They will be happy to help you.
- Neither the manufacturer nor the dealers assume any responsibility for lost or corrupted data. Make sure that you have made a backup copy of all data stored in the SIM card, prior to contacting the Support Centre or performing any recommended operation.
Description of the basic function
BT SIM Reader enables remote authentication of a mobile network subscriber
without the need to establish a physical connection between the SIM card and
an end device.
SIM card connects with the end device via Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE).
BT SIM Reader is fitted with a pairing button (located on the side of the
device), which can be also used to check the device status.

Attaching a key-ring
A key ring is supplied separately.
WARNING
- When moving apart the coils of the key-ring with your fingernails, you may damage your nails. In order to avoid this and to facilitate the task, use a flat tool, e.g. a screwdriver.
- Insert a flat screwdriver between the metal coils of the key ring.
- Attach a BT SIM Rader to the key ring.
Opening/closing a battery cover
Openning a battery cover
- Insert a finger in the gap at the bottom of the device, pull gently at the protruding element with an overprint of an arrow, and flip the cover outward to open.
- At the same time, pull the BT SIM Reader cover-up.
Closing the battery cover
- First, insert the tabs on the left side of the BT SIM Reader.
- Push the cover down until it snaps into place. You should hear a „click”.
Inserting the battery
The battery compartment can be accessed by opening the BT SIM Reader casing.
WARNING
Battery type
- Use battery with the designation ER14250, 3.6 V.
- Make sure that the battery was correctly placed inside the battery compartment, paying attention to the designation of poles (+) and (-).
→ Install the battery.
Inserting/removing the SIM card
WARNING

SIM cards are very small. They can be swallowed and cause asphyxiation. This poses a risk of serious or even fatal injury.
Store SIM cards out of the reach of children.
If a SIM card is swallowed, seek medical attention immediately. -
SIM card and its contacts can be easily damaged as a consequence of scratching or bending, so caution should be exercised when handling, inserting or removing the SIM card.
Inserting the SIM card
SIM card slot can be accessed by opening the SIM card reader casing.
WARNING
- The device can handle nano-SIM cards only.
- The face with contacts must be directed down and its beveled corner must be positioned to the left of the card – see the marking inside the device.
→ Place the SIM card in the card slot and push it until it snaps in place.
WARNING
- Avoid touching the SIM card’s metal surface.
Removing the SIM card
WARNING
- Never remove the SIM card while performing on it any kind of operation Removing the card at that time may cause damage to the card itself or to the device. Data stored in the card may get corrupted as well.
→ Press the tip of the SIM card to release the catch and remove the card.
Bluetooth pairing
Before using BT SIM Reader for the first time, you have to pair the device
with the end device (the head unit) of the car.
Important:
- BT SIM Reader must be placed within the reach of the vehicle head unit.
- BT SIM Reader must be switched to the Bluetooth mode for the Bluetooth of the end device to be detected and activated; see the respective end device operating instructions.
WARNING
- Both battery and SIM card must be installed in the reader.
→ Press and hold the pairing button for approximately 6 seconds.
During the pairing process, the diode will flash blue.
Now go to the car’s head unit settings; see the respective end device
operating instructions.
- Go to Settings, choose Devices, and then click Bluetooth & devices
- Click Add Bluetooth or another device.
- At the Add, a device pane, click Bluetooth and select a BT SIM Reader to pair.
- The pairing is complete when you see that the BT SIM Reader is connected.
Search for the device marked “BT SIM Reader…”. In case several devices are detected, select the one whose name contains 5 final digits of the series number displayed on the device casing.
Important:
- Searching for Bluetooth devices and establishing a Bluetooth connection may take up to 2 minutes.
- If the pairing process is successful, the diode will stop flashing.
- The pairing has to be performed only once.
Once the device has been connected, you do not have to perform any other action.
The device will remain paired until it is reset or the connection is removed.
In case the pairing process has not been successful, after 2 minutes the diode will light up in red. The pairing process must be repeated.
Important:
- If the device battery charging status is very low, the process of configuring the connection may fail. Replace the battery.
BT SIM Reader can be paired with 10 vehicles.
When trying to configure a connection with the 11th vehicle, please bear in
mind that the connection used most recently may be deleted and replaced with a
new one.
Bluetooth connection can be ended at any time by switching off the function in
the vehicle. The connection can be broken if you move away from the car
holding the BT SIM Reader and the device is removed outside the reach of the
vehicle.
Bluetooth connection is discontinued once the vehicle engine is switched off.
BT SIM Reader will become automatically connected with the connected vehicle
head unit, once the device is placed within the reach of the vehicle. A
precondition is that the Bluetooth function is active and the pairing
identification has not been deleted.
Operating
Important:
- The device operates in the frequency range from 2400 MHz to 2483.5 MHz with a maximal transmission power of 2.5 mW.
During ongoing Bluetooth connection, all SIM card-related information required
for authentication in the mobile telephone network is made available.
Data exchange between BT SIM Reader and the vehicle head unit is carried out
via Bluetooth.
This gives you mobility – you will find this solution useful if you use
several different cars. You do not have to transfer the SIM card.
Checking the status of the BT SIM Reader.
In order to check the device status:
→ Press the pairing button for a short time.

described methods worked, contact your operator.

Reset
Reset is available after opening the BT SIM Reader casing.
WARNING
- All established pairing settings with connected vehicles will be deleted.
→ Insert the tip of a sharp tool in the slot labeled Reset.
Cleaning
Use only a dry, soft cloth for cleaning. The use of water or organic solvents
is prohibited.
Information on the disposal of electrical goods in the EU
The crossed-out wheelie bin symbol means that electrical and electronic
products, batteries, and accumulators must be disposed of separately in the
European Union. Please do not dispose of any such products in your normal
household waste. As the owner of a product of this sort, you are legally
obliged to dispose of it at your local dumping site recycling center, where
you are able to leave your waste electrical goods free of charge.
