Warning

No user-serviceable parts are located inside your Firstmate® unit. Installation and service should be performed by a qualified electrician only.
Only use a GFI (Ground Fault Interrupt) outlet for powering your Firstmate® controller or the Auxiliary module.
To avoid the risk of electric shock, always disconnect power to your dock before installing the Firstmate® or any of its components.
Use only cordless tools for installation.
Failure to follow these instructions may result in injury or death.
Always tie your boat up to your dock, Firstmate, Inc assumes no liability for damages resulting from the user’s failure to securely restrain their watercraft.
Verify that the boat’s plugs have not been removed before operating the Firstmate®.
Never use your remote control without being present at the lift. If your lift is not raising or lowering in a level position, stop the lift and correct the problem.
Stay clear of the lift while it is in operation.
Caution must be used when storing your vessel in the board position as rough water conditions may lift the boat off the lift.
Power requirements: 20 Amp per blower motor.

Before you begin:
Read all warnings prior to attempting installation Inspect the unit to verify receipt of all components Turn off power to the dock
Component checklist:

  • User Guide

  • Firstmate® Remote System

  • Enclosure (housing) w/lid

  • RF Set
    Receiver w/ antenna
    Key Fob(s)

  • 14′ Cat5 Remote Cable

Tools required:

  • Cordless drill
  • Appropriate drill bit for mounting hardware
  • 5/16″ nut driver
  • Tubing cutter or hacksaw
  • Wrenches for mounting hardware used

Installation Instructions

Installing Firstmate®:

  • Observe the desired location for installation. Verify unit’s power cord reaches the nearest power outlet. (15-amp breaker per motor required)
  • Remove the Firstmate® enclosure. Keep screws/washers for re-installation.
  • Mark frame’s (4) mounting holes – drill through the dock decking.
  • Using 5/16″ x 2 1/2″ bolts, washers, and nuts ­ mount frame to dock.
    Keep enclosure removed

Installing the Receiver:

The ideal mounting position of the Receiver is typically the nearest dock post within 12′ proximity of the Firstmate®. This location should be sheltered, free from potential exposure to weather conditions. If installing on a dock w/o dock post, mount receiver to the frame’s uprights, to be protected from the outside elements.

  • Mount the receiver with its antenna
  • Plug Cat5 remote cable into Receiver’s `Control Output’ port.
  • Plug opposite end of Cat5 remote cable into the Valve Driver port labeled `Signal In’ connecting Receiver to the Firstmate®.

Finishing the installation:
Connect lift hose to the valve’s fitting (elbow nipple) on the Firstmate®
Attach enclosure to the Firstmate® using the (4) previously removed case screws & washers
Plug the Firstmate® into the power outlet. Restore power to the Dock’s outlet. Test operation of Key fob.
o Press & hold DN’ to activate lift strobe should flash & handle(s) should turn – opening the valve(s) o Press & hold theUP’ button to stop lift handles should turn back to Hold ­ closing the valve(s) & strobe stop flashing
*Key fob is referred to as “true touch.”
Press & hold for approx. 2-3 seconds to activate the fob.
This completes the installation of the Firstmate® system.
