GENERAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

CAUTION!

  1. This manual is an integral part of the product. Keep it with care with the appliance, and hand it on to the next user/owner in case of a change of property.
  2. Read the instructions and warning in this manual carefully, they contain important information regarding safe installation, use and maintenance.
  3. The appliance must be installed and commissioned by a qualified technician in accordance with local legislation and health and safety regulations. All power circuits must be shut off before you open the terminal block.
  4. DO NOT use the appliance for any other than its specified use. The manufacturer is not liable for damage resulting from improper or incorrect use or failure to observe the instructions given in this manual.
  5. Incorrect installation can result in damage to property and injury to persons and animals; the manufacturer is not liable for the consequences.
  6. DO NOT leave the packaging materials (staples, plastic bags, expanded polystyrene, etc.) within the reach of children – they can cause serious injury.
  7. The appliance may not be used by persons under 8 years of age, with reduced physical, sensory or mental capacity, or lacking the requisite experience and familiarity, unless under supervision or following the instruction in the safe use of the appliance and the hazards attendant on such use. DO NOT permit children to play with the appliance. User cleaning and maintenance may not be done by unsupervised children.
  8. DO NOT touch the appliance when barefoot or if any part of your body is wet.
  9. Any repairs, maintenance, plumbing, and electrical hookup must be done by qualified technicians using original spare parts only. Failure to observe the above instructions can compromise the safety of the appliance and relieves the manufacturer of any liability for the consequences.
  10. The hot water temperature is regulated by a thermostat which also acts as a re-variable safety device to prevent dangerous overheating.
  11. The electrical hookup must be done as indicated in this manual.
  12. If the appliance is equipped with a power cord, the latter may only be replaced by an authorized service center or a professional technician.
  13. Do not tamper with the overpressure safety device, if supplied together with the appliance; trip it from time to time to ensure that it is not jammed and to remove any scale deposits. In countries that have enacted EN 1487, the appliance’s intake pipe must be equipped with a safety device compliant with the said standard, calibrated to a maximum pressure of 0.7 MPa, including at least a cock, check valve, safety valve and hydraulic load cutout.
  14. It is normal that water drip from the overpressure safety device and EN 1487 safety unit when the appliance is heating. For this reason, one must install a drain, open to the air, with a continuously downwards sloping pipe, in an area not subject to subzero temperatures. Make sure to drain the appliance when it is out of service or in an area subject to subzero temperatures.

  16. Water heated to over 50° C can cause immediate serious burns if delivered directly to the taps. Children, disabled persons, and the aged are particularly at risk. We recommend installing a thermostatic mixer valve on the water delivery line, marked with a red collar.
  17. Do not leave flammable materials in contact with or in the vicinity of the appliance.

Anti-legionella recommendations (European standard CEN/TR 16355)

Information

Legionella is a small bacterium, of stick-like form, and is found naturally in freshwater.
Legionnaire’s disease is a serious pulmonary infection caused by inhalation of the Legionella pneumophilia bacterium and other species of Legionella. The bacterium is frequently to be found in the plumbing of houses, hotels and water used in A/C and air cooling systems. The most effective measure against infection is to prevent the bacterium from proliferating in water circuits.
European standard CEN/TR 16355 provides guidelines for preventing the proliferation of Legionella in drinking water systems, without substituting applicable local legislation.

General recommendations
“Conditions favorable to the proliferation of Legionella”. The following conditions are favorable to the proliferation of Legionella:

  • Water temperature is in the range of 25 – 50 °C. To reduce the proliferation of Legionella, the water temperature be kept within these limits to prevent them from growing or reduce their growth to a minimum. If this is not possible, the drinking water system must be sanitized thermally;
  • Stagnant water. To prevent water from stagnating for a long time, the drinking water system must be flushed or made to run abundantly at least once a week;
  • Nutrients, biofilms, and sediment in the circuit, including boilers, etc. Sediment may promote the proliferation of Legionella and should be regularly eliminated from water storage devices, boilers, and expansion/holding tanks (for instance, once a year).

As regards storage heater like the present, if:

  1. the appliance is switched off for several months at a time or
  2. the water temperature is kept constant in the range 25 – 50°C and the Legionella bacteria could grow in the tank.

In such circumstances, reduce the proliferation of the bacteria by running a “thermal sanitization cycle”. Water heaters are sold with software that allows a “thermal sanitization cycle” to be run when it is activated in order to reduce the proliferation of Legionella in the tank. This cycle is suitable for domestic hot water systems and complies with the guidelines for the prevention of Legionella stipulated in Table 2 of standard CEN/TR 16355 (see below).

Electromechanical water heaters are sold with the thermal sanitization cycle disabled (default setting). If, for some reason, any of the above “conditions in favor of the proliferation of Legionella” occurs, it is strongly recommended to enable this function according to the instructions found in this manual [see <<Activating the “thermal disinfection cycle” (anti- legionella)>>].
However, the thermal disinfection cycle does not kill all Legionella bacteria in the storage tank. It follows that if the function is disabled, the Legionella bacteria may reoccur. Note: when the software performs the thermal sanitization treatment, it is likely that the power consumption of the water heaters increases.
Caution:
the water temperature in the tank can cause immediate serious burns when the software runs the thermal disinfection treatment. Children, disabled persons and the aged are particularly at risk of burns. Check the water temperature before taking a bath or shower

The power consumption data in the table and the other information given in the Product Data Sheet (Enclosure A to this manual) are defined in relation to EU Directives 812/2013 and 814/2013.
The products without the label and the datasheet for water heaters and solar devices, stipulated in regulation 812/2013, are not intended to be used in such assemblies.
The device is equipped with a smart function that allows you to adapt the consumption to the user profiles.
If operated correctly, the device has a daily consumption of “Qelec*(Qelec, week, smart/Qelec, week)” less than that of an equivalent product with no smart function”.
This appliance is conforming with the international electrical safety standards IEC 60335-1 and IEC 60335-221. The CE marking of the appliances attests its conformity to the following EC Directives, of which it satisfies the essential requisites:
– LVD Low Voltage Directive: EN 60335-1, EN 60335-2-21, EN 60529, EN 62233, EN 50106.
– EMC Electro-Magnetic Compatibility: EN 55014-1, EN 55014-2, EN 61000-3-2, EN 61000-3-3.
– RoHS2 Risk of Hazardous Substances: EN 50581.
– ERP Energy-related Products: EN 50440.

INSTALLING NORMS (for the installer)
CAUTION Observe all general warnings and safety standards listed at the beginning of this text in full; all such instructions are obligatory. !
The appliance must be installed and commissioned by a qualified technician in accordance with established regulations and local health and safety regulations. We recommend installing the appliance as close as possible to the delivery points to minimize heat loss along the pipes.
Local regulations may provide for restrictions on installation in bathrooms; observe any regulatory minimum distances. The range of water heaters includes models set up to be assembled above or below the point of use (sink, basin or shower). The models intended to be assembled under the point of use are called “undersink”.
To facilitate maintenance, make sure there is a clearance of at least 50 cm inside the enclosure for access to the electrical equipment. Fix the supplied bracket to the wall with screws and dowels of adequate size for the type of wall. Hook the water heater to the bracket and pull down to make sure it is secured.

HYDRAULIC CONNECTION
Hook up the water heater inlet and outlet with pipes or fittings that are resistant to the operating pressure and hot water temperature, which may reach and even exceed 80°C in normal operation. Do not employ materials not rated for such temperatures.
Screw a T-fitting to the appliance’s intake (blue-collar). To this fitting, screw a drain cock (B fig. 1) of a type that can only be operated with a tool) on one side and on the other, the overpressure device (A fig. 1).
CAUTION For countries that have enacted European standard EN 1487, the overpressure device supplied with the appliance (if present) is non- conforming. The regulatory device must be calibrated to a maximum pressure of 0.7 MPa (7 bar) and include at least a cock, check valve and control, safety valve, and hydraulic load cutout.
Some countries may require the use of alternative safety devices, as required by local law; the installer must check the suitability of the safety device he tends to use.
Do not install any shut-off device (valve, cock, etc.) between the safety unit and the heater itself.
The appliance’s drain outlet must be connected to a drain pipe of diameter at least equal to the of the outlet itself, with a funnel to permit an airgap of at least 20 mm for visual inspection to prevent damage or injury to persons, animals, and property when the device operates; the manufacturer is not liable for any such consequences. Use a hose to connect the overpressure device to the mains cold water supply; fit a cock if necessary (D fig. 1). Fit a drain pipe to (C fig. 1) to handle circumstances in which the drain cock is opened.
When installing the overpressure safety device, do not tighten it fully down, and do not tamper with its settings. It is normal that water drip from the overpressure safety device when the appliance is heating. For this reason, one must install a drain, open to the air, with a continuously downwards sloping pipe, in an area not subject to subzero temperatures. If the mains pressure is close to the valve’s setting, fit a pressure reducer as far away from the appliance as possible. If you decide to install mixer units (taps or shower), purge the pipes of any potentially damaging impurities first.
The appliance must not be supplied with water of hardness less than 12°F, nor with especially hard water (greater than 25°F); we recommend installing a water softener, properly calibrated and controlled – do not allow the residual hardness to fall below 15°F. Before using the appliance, we recommend filling its tank with water and draining it completely so as to remove any residual impurities.

“Gravity drain” connection
Specific taps must be used for this type of installation and the connection must be implemented as shown in the diagram in Fig. 2. With this solution, the water heater can work at any mains pressure and no type of tap must be connected on the outlet pipe, which acts as a vent.
Electrical connection
Before working on the appliance, shut off mains power with its external power switch.
Before installing the appliance it is recommended to thoroughly check the electrical system to verify compliance with established regulations; the manufacturer is not liable for damage caused by lack of grounding or anomalous power supply.
Check that the mains power supply is rated for the heater’s maximum power draw (refer to the nameplate) and that the electrical cables are suitably rated and regulatory. Multi-plugs, extensions, and adapters may not be used. Do not use the plumbing, heating or gas pipes for grounding the appliance.
If the appliance has a power cord that requires replacement, use a cable of equivalent type (H05VV-F 3×1 mm, dia. 8.5 mm). The power cord (HO5 V V-F 3×1 mm 2 dia. 8.5 mm) must be routed into the hole (F fig. 3) in the back of the appliance and connected to the thermostat terminals (M fig. 6). Use a two-pole switch conforming with CEI-EN (contact gap of at least 3 mm, preferably equipped with fuses) to disconnect the appliance’s power supply. The appliance must be grounded with a cable (yellow/green and longer than the phase cable) connected to the terminals marked ( **** fig. 6).
Before starting up the appliance, check that the power rating matches that given on the nameplate. If the appliance has no power cord, it can be installed in one of the following ways:
– connection to mains with a rigid pipe (if the appliance has no cable clamp);
– with a flexible cable (H05VV-F 3x1mm 2 2 , dia. 8.5 mm) if the appliance has a cable clamp.

Startup and commissioning
Before powering up the appliance, fill the heater with mains water.
To do so, open the mains cock and the hot water tap until all the air has been vented from the boiler. Check for leaks from the flanges, and tighten down the fittings (not too much!) if necessary (A fig. 4).
Power the appliance by actuating the switch.

MAINTENANCE REGULATIONS (for competent person)
CAUTION Observe all general warnings and safety standards listed at the beginning of this text in full; all such instructions are obligatory.
Maintenance work may only be done by qualified technicians (in possession of the regulatory requisites). Before requesting Technical Assistance to intervene for a suspected fault, check that this is not caused by a temporary lack of water supply or power failure.

Draining the appliance
Make sure to drain the appliance when it is out of service or in an area subject to subzero temperatures. To drain the appliance, proceed as follows:
– permanently disconnect it from its power supply;
– close the cock, if present (D fig. 1), or the main domestic water system cock;
– open the hot water tap (sink or bathtub);
– open cock (B fig. 1).

Replacing parts
Disconnect the appliance from its power supply.
Remove the enclosure to access the electrical equipment.
Actuate the electronic thermostat (T fig.6) by disconnecting the power cable (C fig.6) and the cable (Y fig.6) of the control panel. Then remove it from its housing while taking care not to bend the sensor holder rod excessively (K fig.6).
Intervene on the control panel (W fig.6) by disconnecting the cable (Y fig.6) and removing the screws.
To work on the heating element and anode, first drain the appliance.
Use only original spare parts
Scheduled maintenance
The heating element (R fig. 5) should be descaled every two years to ensure it works properly.
If you do not wish to use a liquid descaler, you can simply break off the deposit, taking care not to damage the heating element’s cladding.
The magnesium anode (N fig. 5) must be replaced every two years (this does not apply to appliances with stainless steel boilers); however, the anode should be checked every ear if the water is corrosive or chloride rich. To replace it, remove the heating element and unscrew it from its bracket.
After routine or extraordinary maintenance, we recommend filling its tank with water and draining it completely so as to remove any residual impurities.
Use only original spare parts supplied by the manufacturer’s authorized service centers, otherwise the.
Reactivating the two-pole cutout
If the water overheats excessively, a thermal cutout (CEI-EN compliant) trips to cut the electrical power supply to the heating element (both phases); contact the Service Centre if this occurs.
Overpressure safety device
Regularly check that the overpressure device is not jammed or damaged; if it is, remove any scale or replace it. If the device has a lever or knob, operate it to:
– drain the appliance, if necessary
– check its operation from time to time.

USER INSTRUCTIONS

CAUTION Observe all general warnings and safety standards listed at the beginning of this text in full; all such instructions are obligatory.

Recommendations
– Do not place anything under the water heater which may be damaged by a leak.
– If the water is not used for a long time:
➣ shut off power to the appliance by setting the external switch to “OFF”;
➣ close the water circuit cocks.
– Water heated to over 50°C can cause immediate serious burns or even death. Children, disabled persons, and the aged are particularly at risk of burns. Do not attempt to service or repair the appliance.

Reset/Diagnostics
When any of the faults described below occurs, the device goes into fault status and all the LEDs on the control panel flash simultaneously.
Reset: reset the appliance by switching it off and on from the key (A fig.6). If the cause of the fault disappears when reset, the appliance resumes its regular operation. Otherwise, all the LEDs start to flash again and Technical Assistance must be requested to intervene.
Diagnostics: activate the diagnostics by pressing the key (A fig.6) for 5 seconds.
The indication of the type of fault is provided via 5 leds (1➔ 5 fig.6) according to the following diagram:
LED ref. 1 – Fault inside the board;
LED ref. 2 – Fault at the anode (in models with an active anode);
LED ref. 3 – Faulty NTC 1/NTC 2 temperature sensors (open or short-circuited);
LED ref. 5 – Water over-temperature detected by a single sensor;
LED ref. 4 and 5 – General over temperature (board failure);
LED ref. 3 and 5 – Probe differential error;
Exit the diagnostics by pressing the key (A fig.6) or wait for 25 s.

Activating the “thermal disinfection cycle” (anti-legionella).
The product has the “thermal disinfection cycle” disabled by default.
The activation of the “thermal disinfection cycle” is displayed as a normal temperature setting at 60°C.
Activate this function by pressing and holding both the “ECO” and “+” keys for 4 s.; once activation is confirmed, LED 60 will flash quickly for 4 s.
Permanently deactivate the function by repeating the above steps; once the deactivation is confirmed, LED 40 will flash quickly for 4 s.

Adjusting the temperature and activating the functions of the device
Switch the device on by pressing the key (A fig.6). Set the desired temperature by selecting a level between 40°C and 80°C using the ”+” and “-“ buttons. During the healing phase, the LEDs (1➔5 fig.6) related to the temperature reached by the water remain on; the subsequent ones until the temperature is set, flash progressively. If the temperature drops, for example due to water being drawn, the heating is automatically reactivated and the LEDs between the last one on (steady) and that related to the set temperature start to flash progressively again.
When first switched on, the product is set to 70°C.
In case of a power failure or if the product is switched off using the button (A fig.6), the last temperature set remains saved.
Slight noise may occur during the heating phase due to the water being heated.

ECO EVO function
The “ECO EVO” function consists of self-learning software of the user consumption, which allows heat loss to be minimized and energy savings to be maximized. This function is active by default.
The “ECO EVO” software consists of an initial learning period of a week when the product begins to operate at the temperature indicated in the product data-sheet Attachment A) and logs the user energy demand. From the second week onwards the learning process continues so as to learn the user requirements in more detail and changes the temperature every hour to adapt it to the actual demand in order to improve energy savings. The “ECO EVO” software activates the heating of the water within the time and mounts determined automatically by the product itself according to user consumption. During the day, when no water is drawn, the product still guarantees a reserve of hot after. Activate the “ECO” function by pressing the relevant key that lights up green.
Two operating modes are possible:

  1. Manual adjustment of the temperature (see the “Adjusting the temperature and activating the functions of the device” paragraph): the manual mode is accessed with the  CO button off. In this mode, the product continues to note the user’s energy demand without adjusting the temperature selected by the user. Press the “ECO” key for it to  ight up and the “ECO EVO” function to start, which is immediately effective in this case as the “learning process” has already been implemented;
  2. ECO EVO:
    – After the first week of continuous learning, the water heater always prepares the amount of hot water according to a statistical prediction of demand which is supplied in time: to do so, the temperature will be automatically  determined which will always be between a Tminimum=40°C and a maximum temperature that is set by the user (by default, the maximum temperature is equal to the value shown in the datasheet [Attachment A])
    – Press the ECO key for long for the eco LED to flash for about 4 s and the learning process restarts (from the first week). This is used to delete the user demand from the memory and restart (hard reset).
    – Caution: when the ECO key is on and the “+/-” keys (Fig.6) or the knob (Fig.6) or the “ECO” key itself are pressed, the Eco soft mode described above is accessed (the ECO key goes off) In order to guarantee proper ECO operation, it is recommended not to disconnect the product from the mains.

Anti-limescale Function:
If much limescale is detected, the product switches to limited mode, which is actually “manual” mode with the heating temperature set to 65°C and the ECO EVO function disabled. Warning: the first 3 heating LEDs flash simultaneously (Fig.6➔1;2;3)

USEFUL HINTS

If the water delivery is cold, have the following checked:
– is there power to the thermostat and terminal block?
– are the heating elements working?
If the water is boiling hot (steam is coming out of the taps)
Shut off electrical power to the appliance and have the following checked:
– thermostat;
– the amount of scale on the boiler and heating element.
If the hot water delivery is insufficient, have the following checked:
– the mains water pressure;
– the condition of the deflector on the cold water intake pipe;
– the condition of the hot water pipe;
– the electrical equipment.
Water leaking from the overpressure safety device
It is normal that some water to drip from the device while the water is being heated. To prevent this dripping, install an expansion vessel on the delivery side. If the device continues leaking even while the water is not being heated, have the following checked:
– the device’s setting;
– the mains water pressure.
Caution: Never obstruct the device’s outlet!
NEVER ATTEMPT TO REPAIR THE APPLIANCE YOURSELF – ALWAYS HAVE THIS DONE BY A QUALIFIED TECHNICIAN.
The indicated data and specifications are not binding; the manufacturer reserves the right to modify them at his own discretion notification or replacement. This product is in conformity with REACH regulations.

Pursuant to Art. 26 of Italian Legislative Decree 14 march 2014, n. 49 “Enactment of Directive 2012/19/EU governing electrical and electronic waste (WEEE)”
The barred bin symbol on the appliance and its packaging indicate that the product must be scrapped separately from other waste at the end of its service life. The user must therefore hand the equipment over to a sorted waste disposal facility for electro-technical and electronic equipment at the end of its service life.
Alternatively, he may return the equipment to the retailer at the time of purchase of a new equivalent type of appliance. The electronic equipment of size less than 25 cm can be anded over to any electronics equipment retailer whose sales area is at least 400 m for disposal free of charge and without any obligation to purchase a new product.
Sorted waste collection for recycling, treatment and environmentally compatible scrapping contributes to the prevention of damage to the environment and promotes reuse/recycling.
