Each wood species is carefully selected for its ultimate structural integrity and end finish. Wood is nature’s most renewable material and its natural beauty should always be respected, honored and well cared for. Solid wood furniture will continuously show its true identity with use over time and will age with great integrity when cared for appropriately. When solid wood pieces are not cared for appropriately they may be prone to show imperfections, flaws and even cracking.
MAINTENANCE & CARE FOR SOLID WOOD FURNITURE
When cared for properly your piece will remain beautiful and functional for many years. We have outlined our maintenance and general care recommendations for you below:
- Recommended room humidity: 40% to 60%
- Ideal consistent room temperature: 70 ̊ F
- Avoid exposure to extreme climate conditions
- Do not place your solid wood furniture near heating sources or in highly air-conditioned spaces.
- Although our furniture has been given a protective finish coating during production, it can still be susceptible to some stains. We recommend that spills are removed immediately to prevent any staining.
- Shield your furniture from direct sunlight (UV) to prevent fading or local color variances over time. Move objects placed on the surface frequently.
- Use placemats and coasters to prevent markings or stains on your furniture caused by hot or cold beverages, food and candles.
- Varnishes reach their maximum hardness after 60 days, handle your furniture with great care during the first couple of months. Be mindful with hard objects, such as earthenware, laptops or abrasive surface materials.
- When cleaning the surface, always wipe in the direction of the wood grain. A damp cloth with water or a mild detergent is always recommended. Do not over soak cleaning cloths and wipe wood surfaces with too much water.
- Never use abrasives, ammonia, or other chemical-based cleaning products.
- It is always best to test any cleaning technique or product on a location that is not normally visible.
- A high quality furniture grade wax is recommended a few times a year for all natural finishes.
FABRIC UPHOLSTERY ITEMS
We know that life at home sometimes can get a little messy, but keeping your home beautiful is important too. Our Nickey Kehoe Collection fabric upholstered furniture items are not finished with any fabric treatments or chemical solutions to prevent stains, discoloration or excessive wear. We encourage you to research and discover fabric content and care recommendations direct from the fabric mill, supplier or manufacturer. Any final fabric treatments or solutions are recommended to be applied prior to use and should be carefully selected to meet your unique personal and household needs.

Known for its natural beauty some color variations, pull-up effects, healed scars, figure wrinkles, hairless spots, and other markings are characteristics of leather’s inherent beauty and authenticity. Each hide will absorb the tanning and coloring process differently within each unique natural hide, making every piece distinct and truly one of a kind. We embrace the special and unique qualities of genuine leather and always strive to utilize only select areas of all hides when possible. When it comes to maintaining or cleaning leather, less is always more. Leather is designed to be a very low-maintenance covering. Conditioners and cleaners made specifically for leather should be tested in a hidden area to avoid any discoloration that may occur. Normal wear will enhance genuine leather hides and build a beautiful patina over time.
