we are so glad that you have bought your electric bike from Fosna!
It is important that you write down the serial number of your bike as it is not registered anywhere with the supplier, only on the bike and the box.
For service at the supplier, we recommend that you take the user manual with you so that our bicycle mechanic can register the service, and so you can get a signature that the job has been carried out.

SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

• Read the user manual carefully for best performance and to take the best care of the product.

• Electric bicycles from Fosna are only intended to be used by one person. Never have more than one person on the bike at a time.

• The rider of the electric bicycle should adjust the seat and handlebar height according to their height to ensure a good,
  stable, and comfortable ride.

• Familiarize yourself with local and national regulations for the use of e-bikes, current speed and alcohol limits. Also follow the laws and regulations for the use of helmets and other safety equipment, as well as the use of lights, reflectors and signals. We recommend wearing light-colored clothing to make yourself more visible in traffic.

• Ensure optimal air pressure in the tires, this affects both the bike’s drivability and your comfort as a cyclist. Punctures are not covered by the right of complaint. Be sure to replace worn tires regularly to achieve the best possible performance and safety.

• Check the bike before every ride. Ensure that no parts are loose or damaged.

• Familiarize yourself with the bike and try out the different settings, preferably in a traffic-free area, before setting out on public roads and side walks.

• Keep both hands on the handlebars with the brake levers within easy reach and both feet on the pedals while driving. Then you are in the best position to control the bike and immediately react to any circumstances.

• Driving in adverse conditions, such as slippery surfaces, ice and oil, heavy rain, strong wind, snow, puddles and poor roads, affects driving ability and safety. If in doubt, set the driving assistance to the lowest level, slow down, assess your surroundings and possibly roll the bike next to you.

• Be aware of holes in the road or other sudden obstacles, avoid driving straight into or down curbs. This can lead to injury to the driver and/or damage to the vehicle. Get off and lift the bike over the edge. Always ride on surfaces and roads that are suitable for the product’s use, note that the area of use may vary depending on which bike you have.

• If the e-bike is not used for 1 month (such as during winter storage), you need to maintenance charge it at least once a month. The battery must never be discharged. Never let it completely run out of power. The recommended charge for storage is over 50%.

• After riding in rainy weather, the battery and display must always be wiped dry.

• Never use the product in a state where you are not completely sure you can drive safely. Reasons not to use the e-bike include if you have consumed alcohol, taken tranquilizers, are ill, impaired, tired, or in other circumstances.

HOW TO USE THE E-BIKE

ASSEMBLY STRAIGHT OUT OF THE BOX
On the YouTube channel ”Momas Elsykler” you will receive detailed and good instructions on how to set up the electric bike, as well as how to adjust the gears before using the bike.
You will also receive a quick training on how the display works.

ATTENTION! To prevent punctures, it is essential that the tires have the correct air pressure. Tires with the correct air pressure provide the absolute best performance, driving experience, control and speed. Fill the tires with air BEFORE the first bike ride. The recommended tire air pressure is between 2,5 to 3,5 bar, depending on the weight and activity of the user.
Check the pressure regularly and top up if the pressure is lower than 2,5 bar.

ATTENTION!

• Use the display with care. Do not attempt to disconnect or connect the connector while the battery is on.
• Avoid hitting.

DISPLAY AND ERROR CODES

1. Hold down the On/Off button to turn on the electric bike, the display will look like the picture to the right. It is the same procedure for turning it off.
2. If the e-bike is left untouched for a few minutes, the display will turn off, but it will still draw power. If left for more than 30 minutes, it will automatically turn off.
3. Press the On/Off button to switch between odometers: Odometer – Single trip distance – Single trip time – Single trip max speed- Single trip average speed -Single trip average power – Instantaneous power – Motor power – Riding power – Remaining distance – Riding frequency.
4. The walk mode is activated by holding down the ”walk assistance” button. If you release the button, the assistance is stopped.
5. Press ”+” and ”-” to adjust how much assistance the motor provides.
6. Press Light button to turn on the headlight. Rear light will be turned on at the same time. It´s the same procedure to turn it off.

ATTENTION! The higher the assistance, the higher the battery usage.

SETTINGS
To get to the settings, press and hold “+”- and ”-” button at the same time. Briefly press ”ON/OFF”- button in the settings menu to access the sub-options. In the last option menu, press briefly on the ”ON/OFF” button to confirm the option.
After selecting the “Return” option, press on the ”ON/OFF” button to return to the previous menu.
Press the ”ON/OFF” button in any settings menu to return directly to the main screen.

FOR CHARGING YOUR PHONE WITH THE DISPLAY, FOLLOW THESE STEPS:

1. Connect the USB cable to both the mobile phone and the display.
2. Hold the + button for a few seconds until you see an indication on the display that the mobile is charging.
3. To end charging, disconnect the USB cable from the phone again.

5. Adjust the speed measuring magnet to meet the above inspection requirements

Always inspect the vehicle before use. Check the brakes, that everything is in place, check air pressure and use safety equip-ment.

BEFORE USING THE E-BIKE

• Before putting the product into use, the buyer must familiarize himself with the user manual.
• Choose a suitable place for your first rides and get to know the electric bike.
• Set up the e-bike according to the instructions shown in the user manual.
• We recommend a helmet and other protective equipment.
• You should familiarize yourself with brakes, braking distance and how the product behaves when braking before using the product in traffic/among people. Test at low speeds first and work your way up to high speed emergency braking.

DRIVING

1. Press and hold the on/off button to turn on the e-bike.
2. Fosna´s motors have a lot of power. Always start driving from a standstill in ECO mode or at level 1. Then, when the bike is moving, the motor power can be increased. This is to avoid unnecessary wear and tear on the drive line.
3. Remember to shift between gears while driving and to use the bell and lights on roads, carriageways and among other road users.
4. Be aware that sudden, unforeseen obstacles may appear along the way. Use common sense with regard to speed and adapt your driving to the conditions and surface.
5. Show consideration for all traffic rules that are relevant in relation to bicycles/electric bicycles.

The auxiliary motor works like this: When the pedals are activated, a sensor sends signals to an electronic control, which then starts the motor. The power of the auxiliary motor is adjusted in relation to the selected assistance level. You can adjust the level of assistance as needed while riding. You can put in maximum assistance when riding uphill, while you can turn off the assist motor when riding downhill. The electronic control unit automatically disconnects from the motor when you stop using the pedals. Likewise, the control unit disconnects the motor when your speed exceeds 25 km/h.
Use the brake lever/brakes to slow down or to stop. When pressing the brake lever, the hydraulic brakes will be active according to the pressing force. If the brake lever does not have pressure when pressing, it means that either there can be air in the hydraulic system, or the brake pads might be worn out.
The harder you press the brake handle, the more braking force of the product. Be aware that in the sudden event of sudden braking, the e-bike may slide out of control and dangerous situations may occur.
Sudden braking will reduce the lifetime of the tires and increases the risks of getting a puncture.

MAINTENANCE

SERVICE
We recommend that you perform regular maintenance yourself depending on how often you ride:

• Check the tire air pressure.
• Check if all the lights and electronics are working properly.
• Fully charge the bicycle.
• Overall check of the bolts/screws.
• Check if all the functions are working.
• Check that the gears are properly adjusted.

A service inspection should also be carried out at regular intervals. This includes the following:

• Check all bearing systems: hubs, bottom bracket, headset and pedals.
• Check all brake and gear cables + cable housing for breakage, rust, corrosion.
• Check brake pads and the hydraulic system for leaks.
• Clean and check wheels carefully for signs of misalignment, wear such as worn sidewalls or cracks where the spoke touches the rim or hub.
• Check the hubs for play.
• Check the pedals and pedal bearings.
• Maintain/Check/Lube the suspension components according to the suspension type.
• Check basket, carriers and accessories – be sure attachments and bolts seem in OK condition.
• Check the whole drivetrain (motor, cassette, chainring, derailleur, chain)
• Check all the electronics and its functions.
• Tires wear and their overhaul conditions.

Similar to a traditional bicycle, there are many moving parts on an electric bicycle that need to be taken care of in order to function optimally and to have a long life. And just like a car, your e-bike should undergo a more thorough service at a bike mechanic. A bike workshop will also be able to update software and reset the service counter.
When the tires are removed from the box, they have too low tire pressure. It is very important to inflate them to the optimal pressure before use to avoid damage to the wheels, inner tubes, tires, or the rider. Both too low and too high tire pressure also affects the bike’s characteristics, such as range, top speed, acceleration, climbing ability, and riding comfort. The maximum tire pressure is usually marked on the tire, and it is not recommended to exceed this maximum pressure.
The optimal pressure is typically less than the stated maximum pressure. Several factors influence the optimal tire pressure for your bike, including the tire type and size, riding conditions, as well as the bike’s and rider’s weight.
Note! Punctures are not eligible for complaint.
The tires on a mountain bike are thicker and have wider rims, allowing you to ride with lower pressure. With slightly softer tires on a mountain bike, you get better shock absorption and grip. On the other hand, softer tires also increase the risk of punctures due to uneven terrain, which puts more pressure on the inner tube, as well as more rolling resistance, leading to greater tire wear. A road bike has narrow rims and needs higher tire pressure to maintain stiffness, which in turn provides higher top speed. On the other hand, tires with high air pressure are more likely to burst or damage the valve and pump.
Therefore, it is important to find the opti mal tire pressure for you and your bike, which in both types of tires, low pressure, will drastically increase the chances of punctures.
Note! Keep in mind to check the tire pressure regularly.

• Hydraulic brakes need to be checked regularly specially when feeling low or no pressure when pressing the brake lever.
• Always check / test the brakes before using the e-bike.
• Depending on use, the brake pads need replacement when they are warn out, preferably, when the pad surface is close to reach the limit, otherwise the metal of the pad will scratch the brake rotor/disk damaging it. These can be ordered from any of our stores, bicycle hardware stores / workshops.

BATTERY

• Fosna´s bikes are equipped with Li-ion batteries. The average lifetime of the battery is around 600 charging cicles. Under normal use and with regular maintenance, the life of the battery can usually reach over 600 charging cicles.
• Before using the electric bike for the first time, it is important to charge the battery to 100%.
• In the winter season or for long-term storage, the battery should be stored inside.
• Avoid using your battery when it’s bellow 10% of its capacity, completely depleting the battery will reduce its lifetime.
• Do not leave the battery depleted for extended periods of time, please charge it as soon as possible.
• When not using the e-bike for extended periods of time, like for ex. Winter storage, it is important to have a state of charge over 50%. Also, this state of charge needs to be checked once a month and charge accordingly. Not following this charge maintenance might lead to battery damage.
• Always use the original charger that belongs to your model.
• Do not store the battery on a temperature bellow -5 degrees Celsius and protect against extended periods of time under direct sunlight.
• Li-ion batteries must be handled with extreme care. Overcharging, damage or overheating may result in fire. Always be awake and present when the e-bike is charging, do not charge it unattended during the night.
• Do not use or charge a damaged battery. Immediately follow disposal protocol and deliver the battery for proper disposal.
• The charger is developed for indoor use.
• Dry the battery after use before charging.
• Make sure the battery is free from moisture before charging.
• Make sure the e-bike is turned off and the key removed before charging the bike.
• When charging the battery, the electric bicycle must be placed in a dry and ventilated room/place.
• Make sure the e-bike is OFF before connecting the charger to the battery.

1. Insert the plug from the charger into the wall socket (AC 110V – 230V) and then connect the charger to the battery.
2. Open the charging port cover and insert the charging plug into the charging port.

The chargers from Fosna, have a built-in protection for when the battery is fully charged, the charger will stop the charging pro-cess. When the battery charger is charging, the light on the charger will turn red, and when fully charged, it will turn green.

RIGHT OF COMPLAINT

WHAT DOES THE RIGHT OF COMPLAINT INCLUDE?

• Our electric bicycles are built to last. However, an electric bicycle is composed of components with varying lifespans, and the limi-ted warranty will therefore vary in duration depending on which part of the bike it concerns. Some components, such as the motor and battery, are more susceptible to natural wear and tear and will thus have a shorter expected lifespan than the bike as a whole.
• Remember that proper maintenance and usage are crucial for the product’s longevity. User errors are not eligible for warranty claims. Inadequate maintenance combined with improper usage are among the most common reasons for an electric bicycle to break down. We ask that you always follow our maintenance and usage instructions, as proper maintenance is of great importance in case of any warranty claims.

• Please note that intense or commercial usage, such as daily food deliveries, will affect and reduce your right to make a warranty claim. The bicycles are designed for normal private use, and intense usage will accelerate wear and tear, potentially causing faults or damages that are not covered by consumer protection laws. Usage beyond normal, expected use may result in faults or damages not covered by the warranty. We discourage commercial usage of our products.

TIPS FOR EXTENDING THE LIFETIME OF THE E- BIKE

• Fully charge the battery at least once a month during riding season. When not in use, charge it once a month to keep it over 50%. If the battery is not maintained as suggested, the battery capacity will decrease drastically. If this maintenance is not done, the right to claim can be lost.
• Make sure there is enough air pressure in the tires, 2,5 – 3,5 bar depending on weight and use.
• The bicycle must be kept clean and dry. Rust is not covered by complaints.
• The chain should be lubricated once or twice per season, depending on the use.
• Crank arms and pedals should be tightened after the first ride, before 4 kilometers. Next, the crank arms and pedals should be tightened as needed. Worn threads and cracked axles are not covered by complaints.
• The customer is responsible for ensuring that adjustments are made correctly. Broken gears as a result of poor/incorrect adjustment are not covered by complaints.

Our products should be delivered to a recycling station or recycling facility. Local regulations and laws regarding the recycling and disposal of lithium batteries and/or products containing them vary by country, state and local authorities.
Contact your local or regional waste management office or your household waste service for information on where to dispose of batteries and electronic waste.
