When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and/or injury to persons including the following:

  • This outlet should only be used with devices which produce resistive loads (e.g. luminaries, heaters etc.).
  • Never connect devices which produce inductive loads (e.g. fans, refrigerators, dishwashers, washing machines etc.).

Do not use the outlet in General Patient Care Areas or Critical Patient Care Areas. It has not been evaluated for use where Article 517 of the National Electrical Code requires Hospital Grade component.

  • The installation must comply with all applicable local or national codes, including the latest edition of the following standards:

    • For US: ANSI/NFPA70, National Electrical Code (NEC)
    • For Canada: CSA C22.1, Parts I & II, Canadian Electrical Code
    • For Mexico: Mexican Electrical Code

  • It is recommended that a qualified electrician perform the installation, especially if you are unsure about any part of these instructions.

  • This outlet is rated 120 V AC and must be connected to a suitable power source.

  • Install the outlet away from heat-emitting appliances, such as ovens or toasters.

  • Do not open the housing for any reason.
    There are no user-serviceable parts inside.

  • Do not install near water or heat sources.

  • Install only in a suitable UL Listed outlet box.

  • Connect only to terminal copper wire of 12 AWG or 14 AWG. Do not use with aluminum wires.

  • Do not attempt to disassemble, repair, or modify the outlet.

  • For indoor use only.

Intended Use

  • This product is intended to be used as a wall outlet to control electrical appliances.
    It is intended to replace a standard 2-socket outlet receptacle. It can be connected and controlled through a Wi-Fi connection with Amazon Alexa app or other external Alexa built-in devices.

  • This outlet is intended for household use only.

  • This outlet is intended to be used in dry indoor areas only.

Before First Use

Risk of suffocation!
Keep any packaging materials away from children and pets – these materials are a potential source of danger, e.g. suffocation.

  • Remove all the packing materials.
  • Remove and review all components before use.
  • Check the outlet for transport damages.
  • Before connecting the outlet to the power supply, check that the power supply voltage and current rating corresponds with the power supply details shown on the outlet rating label.

Preparation

  1. Download the latest version of the Alexa app from the app store.
  2. Open the app to login/register to an Amazon account.

When no “grounding means” exists in the outlet box, consult an electrician. Do not install the outlet without a proper ground connection.


NEUTRAL WIRES ARE
REQUIRED FOR INSTALLATION. If missing, look for a bundle of white wires folded in the back of the outlet box. In USA, most homes built after 1978 have neutral wires.

  1. Unscrew and remove the existing wall plate (Fig. 1).

  2. Unscrew and remove the existing outlet receptacle (Fig. 2).

  3. Verify that the outlet box has these wires:
    LINE (black or red)
    NEUTRAL (white or gray)
    GROUND (green, yellow and green or stripped bare copper) If any of the wires are missing or have a different color, stop the installation and contact a professional electrician.

  4. Disconnect the wires from the existing outlet receptacle.

  5. If needed, trim wires to 7 /16″ (11 mm).

  6. Use a flathead screwdriver to separate the front wall plate (I) from the back wall plate (J) (Fig. 3).

  7. Take off the 2 screws (L) and the back wall plate (J) from the main unit (A) (Fig. 4).

  8. Take off the 2 screws (Kl from the main unit (A) (Fig. SJ.

  9. Loosen the GROUND terminal screw (green) (F).
    Insert the GROUND wire from the outlet box into the hole next to the terminal screw.
    Tighten terminal screw afterwards (Fig. 6).

  10. Loosen the LINE terminal screw (black) (HJ. Insert the LINE wire from the outlet box into the one of the holes next to the terminal screw.

  11. Loosen the NEUTRAL terminal screw (silver) (G). Insert the NEUTRAL wire from the outlet box into the one of the holes next to the terminal screw. Tighten terminal screw afterwards (Fig. 6).

    Do not connect this outlet in series. Each outlet must be wired directly to a junction box.

  12. After the connections are completed, turn on the power at circuit breaker or fuse. Test if the outlet works.

  13. Turn off the power at circuit breaker or fuse and test that power is off .

  14. lnsert the main unit (A) into the outlet box being careful not to pinch any wires. Arrange the wires and tuck them in neatly (Fig. 7).

  15. Attach the main unit (A) to the outlet box with the 2 screws (K) (Fig. 7).

  16. Place the back wall plate (J) on the main unit (A) and secure it with 2 screws (L) (Fig. 8).

  17. After the installation, turn on the power at circuit breaker or fuse. Test if the smart outlet works. Status indicator 2 (D) blinks green, device is ready for setup.

Set Up your Smart In-Wall Outlet with Alexa

  1. Open the Alexa app and tap the “More” icon on bottom-right side of the screen.
  2. Tap “Add a Device”.
  3. Select “Plug” -> “Amazon Basics” -> select your corresponding device, then follow the on-screen instructions. If prompted by the app, scan the 2D barcode on the front of the back wall plate (J) or on the back page of the Quick Start Guide.

Snap the front wall plate (I) on the main unit (A) (Fig. 9). A snap sound is heard when the front wall plate (I) is correctly attached.

Use your Smart In-Wall Outlet with Alexa

  • The Smart In-Wall Outlet will be set up as two plugs. To control the In-Wall Outlet, tap “Devices” ->”Plugs” to control each plug.
  • Setup routines: Tap “More” -> “Routines” to create a personalized routine for the device (e.g. setting a schedule so the device automatically turns on around the time you get home).

Use with Alexa Voice Commands

To use your device with Alexa, just say.

  • “Alexa, turn on first plug”

Problem 1

The device does not power on.

Solution 1

  • Use voltage tester to verify if the outlet is powered.
  • Check the power at the circuit breaker or fuse.
  • Verify that the wiring is correct.
  • Make sure there is a NEUTRAL wire connecting to the NEUTRAL terminal screw (G).

Problem 2

Alexa app cannot find or connect to the device during setup.

Solution 2

  1. Check that your phone/tablet and the Alexa app have the latest software version.
  2. Make sure that your phone/tablet and  your device are connected to the same 2.4 GHz network. The device is not compatible with 5 G.
  3. Check that your phone/tablet is within 30′ (10 m) of your device.
  4. Restart your device. To restart, power off the device and power it back on.
  5. If you have restarted your device and it still is not working, do a factory reset: Press and hold the arrow down button 2 (D) for 10 seconds. Release the button once you see the status indicator (D) blinks green and red alternatively. The status indicator (D) blinks green when reset is complete. Then setup the device again.

Cleaning and Maintenance

To prevent electric shock, turn off the power at circuit breaker or fuse before cleaning.

Cleaning
  • To clean the outlet, wipe with a soft, slightly damp cloth.
  • Never use corrosive detergents, wire brushes, abrasive scourers, metal or sharp utensils to clean the outlet.
