pure::variants 6 can be installed and used in parallel to previous versions of pure::variants. It is installed into a separate location and uses its own settings.
All pure::variants Connectors with in-tool integrations provided by pure- systems can be installed only once. This means when you install the new pure::variants Connectors the in-tool integrations are updated to the new version.
After that they only work in combination with the new pure::variants 6.0 installation.
To restore the pure::variants 5.0 in-tool integration uninstall the current version by using the “Programs and Features” control panel.
After that you can install the previous in-tool integration using the “Help # pure::variants # Tool Integrations” menu action in the older pure::variants 5.0 application.
After the installation of pure::variants 6.0 is done pure::variants 5.0.x can be uninstalled without harming the pure::variants 6.0 installation.
The usage of pure::variants 6.0 requires new licenses files. Please follow the steps below to update your current pure::variants installation.

Requesting A New License File

pure::variants users with active maintenance contract can request a license update by sending the current license file to license-update@pure- systems.com. Your request will processed and a new license file will be send to you.
This new license can be used with pure::variants 6.
This step is required for all license types.

Updating An Installation Which Uses pure::variants License Servers

To support pure::variants 6.0 clients the new License Server with version 6.0 is required. The new License Server can be used for all pure::variants clients with version 5.0.x or 6.0. Note that 5.0.x clients keep their respective version 5 client licenses, whereas 6.0 clients need the new version 6 client licenses. To allow the usage of pure::variants 6.0 the following steps are needed:

1. Request a new license file
2. Install the new license server
3. Update the license file in the license server
4. Install pure::variants 6.0 clients

The installer of the license server will install the license server into a new location but will use all settings of an existing installation including the license file locations. It will also replace the pure::variants Licensing Service on Windows, if used. On Windows systems the old license server can be uninstalled using the uninstaller.

Use projects with pure::variants 5.0 as well as 6.0

Existing pure::variants 5.0 projects can be used in parallel with pure::variants 5.0 and pure::variants 6.0 installations. It works full compatible in both version.

Updating An Installation Which Uses pure::variants Model Server

When using the pure::variants Model Server you need the following steps to update your installation.

1. Request a new license file
2. Install the new license server
3. Update the license file in the license server
4. Update the model server to version 6.0
5. Install pure::variants 6.0 clients

The installer of the model server will install the server into a new location but will use all settings of an existing installation. This also includes the connection data to the database. The database can be used with the new server without any further actions.
If the model server runs as service on Windows, the installer will replace the old service with the newly installed model server. The old model server can be uninstalled using the uninstaller.
The pure::variants Model Server 6.0 is able to handle connections to pure::variants 5.0 clients too. So after updating the Model Server existing pure::variants 5.0 Clients works as before and can be updated step by step.

Updating An pure::variants Client

When using a pure::variants Client you need the following steps to update your installation.

1. Request a new license file
2. Install pure::variants 6.0 clients

Version 6.0 can be installed using the installer package, downloadable from our website at https://www.pure-systems.com/pvde-update/. It will ask for user name and password which are the registered eMail address and the license number respectively. Using the installer will install the new version in parallel to the old 5.0.x version of pure::variants, where it can also be uninstalled without interfering with the previously present version.
It is also possible to update the 5.0.x version to the new version 6.0. For this, open the currently installed version of pure::variants and go to “Help # Install New Software…”. In the install wizard, you can enter the update site: https://www.pure-systems.com/pvde-update into the “Work with:” field. The wizard will let you select the Enterprise feature and possibly additional Connectors if needed. After accepting the license agreement, pure::variants will update to version 6.0.
It is also possible to revert a version 6.0 back to the previously installed 5.0.x version. To achieve this, go to “Help # About”. In the newly opened dialog click “Installation Details”. From the “Installation History” tab of the Installation Details Dialog an older version can be selected and reverted to via the “Revert” button.
